If we all buy three copies then return the extras after a week or two will it count?

Will my vinyl purchase count if it doesn't actually ship until July?

If I hold up a sign outside of Walmart telling people to buy the CD will I be beaten and arrest? Or even...assimilated into a greeter?

I want this album to be a success. I want Mike and the gang to feel good about themselves.

Yeah it's pretty incredible that she's still moving that many units.

Judging by those numbers, I'd say we definitely have a strong chance of a hit album. Not sure about #1, but who knows. Fans of the Beach Boys still buy the music, unlike fans of a lot of newer artists. Even those of us that download the leak will most likely buy it when it comes out.

One of the most tolerable choices among that list. The rest sans a couple others, Jesus - what the f***, people?

It is my understanding the QVC sales ended up being over 18,000.

Bad news is on Amazon, Neil Young's album that comes out the same day is currently the 5th best selling album with the Beach Boys' latest effort at number 10. Though maybe it fluctuates every day, I haven't been paying close attention.

Who knows though, QVC might hopefully bump the band past Neil Young.

John Mayer can still sell 219,000 CDs in a single week? Crap, that alone means he'll be nominated in every possible Grammy category next year....

>I want this album to be a success. I want Mike and the gang to feel good about themselves.>

I want this album to be succesful too but from what I've read on these forums by "hardcore Beach Boys fans" I would be lead to think that over half the album sucks after reading all the critical analysis given by those who've heard the "leaked" songs.  I've enjoyed every song I've heard so far but I'm just grateful the guys have given us ANYTHING new when the likelihood of that just a year ago was almost unthinkable!  No, not every song is going to be a masterpiece or set the charts on fire but they are songs that I find VERY catchy and tend to stay in my head immediately.  I say to the hardcore critics of this album, lighten up and just enjoy the beautiful music we've been lucky to get instead of bashing this song or that song thereby driving away those that would like to buy it!

Eh.  Not everybody's going to like it.  I haven't heard any of it yet, except for the single.  I'm really looking forward to it, and judging by the reviews I've read by folks who's opinions I respect, I think I'm going to love it.  When I finally get a chance to hear it, I'll either like it or not, but I'm not going to let the opinions of others 'drive me away'.  People like what they like, and this is a message board where people express their opinions.

maybe, cant recall.

It was meant as a joke. Given that most shoppers are women and most legal purchases of music are done by women, I thought people would see the irony in my comment ^^
How many males do you think buy Bon Jovi and Aerosmith, or Rihanna and Justin Bieber? cmon, it's making satirical fun of reality.

You know, making a sexist comment is not funny.

And when people call you on it, saying "It was meant as a joke" does not suffice. Because it sure doesn't read as one.

It was pretty obviously a joke. Maybe it was in bad taste (maybe), but there's no reason any person who isn't looking to get offended would find that offensive.

I think the album will probably do pretty well. Not blockbuster, but pretty well. They sold more on the QVC show than were sold of SIP altogether, right? Pretty soon it'll be at the kiosks next to the tee shirts and the Dave and Al albums, and I think enough time has passed and they've generated enough positive word of mouth from the tour that if they were going to have a successful album at all, now's about as good a time as any.

Seriously? When you said "OMG, WTF" in an earlier post, I thought you were being sarcastic, pointing out (sardonically) how controversial his comment was. Someone saying "women are the worst shoppers in the world" is THAT offensive to you? Boy, people must have to walk on eggshells around you.

Eh.

I don't want to make a big deal about it, but yeah, I found it offensive. So I tried to point out in a lighthearted way that it was a ridiculous thing to post. There have been a number of rather dumb things posted about women here lately.

But again, whatever. Just my two cents.

Alright, some reactions to the post I made have left me quite startled. As Landlocked said it is pretty obvious in the same way as driving is. There is difference between the sexes and people will and always have made jest of it, all in good faith and nature without any intention to harm anyone. People who are offended by such must really be on the lookout for what they view as offensive comments, then harrass the person who made it to death. let me ask you, what would the reaction be if a woman (as pointed out by Landlocked) said something about the tidiness of men or bad sense of clothing. There would be no reaction. Live with it, and die with it.

It's also just cracked the top 200 on itunes, highest selling  up coming new release. It's also #6 on barnes and noble

Things have really picked up in the last day or so

See, that iTunes number is big.  They're going to have to sell a lot of digital copies if they want this to go Number 1.  Seriously, judging from the other albums coming out next week, this thing has a real shot.  I'll keep saying it.  It really does.

Yeah it is.  Kind of lame, if you ask me.

We're going to need John Mayer's album to really stop selling by Tuesday.  If that's possible.  He might be able to continue moving a lot of units through the next week, we'll see.

If it get's the right promo on itunes it will shoot up the charts, I'm talkin front page splash like so many other acts get..

It can't just drop on itunes with no warning to the general public like smile did, I'm still not over that

Yap. It ain't bad, though. A few tracks are really cool. It's a keeper. Better than Iggy Pop's recent covers album, anyway. Or Macca's.

Just a little perspective folks.

The Beach Boys have only had 2 #1 albums in the U.S.A., and that was the first "Concert" album, and Endless Summer.

Nowadays it's not very important to have a #1 album, though.

I'm happy this CD is going to chart high, and it undoubtedly will, but the fact that it will debut higher than any previous Beach Boys album is a bit contextually skewed. 90% of album releases debut at their chart peak these days and then fall away in subsequent weeks because of the way online pre-sales build and are credited as first week sales. The Beach Boys LP's of decades past that debuted low in the charts and then rose do not reflect that formula. Their chart performance was due to distributor demand, retail sales of the product in stores, and activity and interest built from airplay on the radio. Only bombs debuted at their chart peak in the sixties and seventies, now hits do. Its a strange world.

Nowadays it's not very important to have a #1 album, though.

Thing is, I bet it will be important to Brian. I imagine he'd be psyched as all hell if his first album with the Beach Boys in god knows how long went to number 1.

Also, does anyone know the answer to a question that someone asked earlier: What if you buy and subsequently return an album? Does it count in the charts? I'm guessing it does, assuming we don't return them until after the charts come out. Anyone know for certain?

They probably have an algorythm to adjust for that, so for instance whatever the raw number is they subtract .3% from to make up for returns, or whatever.

Listen to some of the choice words these fans--fans enough to waste their time "liking" him and actually reading and commenting on his status updates--think about "Americana":

"Worst project since Greendale; what a waste of Crazy Horse"

"Only love can break your heart, and Americana. It's terrible." <-- personal favorite

"Neil WAS good but has pretty much sucked since the 70's!"

"All I'm getting from this commercialised nonsense of a FB page is Americana...Americana...Americana...Americana...Americana...Americana...Americana...Americana...Americana...Americana...Americana...Americana...Americana...Americana...Americana...

Nice to see "Neil" engage with his fans. It's all about the Franklins."

My French isn't very good, but this one seems lukewarm at best:

"Difficile de faire avec après son magnifique opus Le Noise. Je passe mon tour cette fois. Dommage!
Difficult to do with after his magnificent opus the Noise. I turn my turn this time. Damage!"

Broken English review:

"I have all the Neil's albums. I've just listened Americana and is the worse album of his log carrier. A completly
sh*t"

Had to share. Perhaps the other NY fans will get a kick out of it like I did.
