Title: newadventuresinhifi - rating of every album in BB career (a must read!)
Post by: Cabinessenceking on May 31, 2012, 03:04:45 PM
A very good and short read for anyone. The guy has his hands on the ball and knows his sh*t.

The reviewer divides the catalogue (appropriatly) into 3 eras: Brian 1962-1967, Carl 1967-75, Mike 1975-1996
I thought this would be interesting for those who haven't seen it yet. Perhaps a good way to introduce new people to the groups catalogue and place it in context?

Big yawn!

Nothing we don't already know and it's just another guy blaming Mike for everything.

I think 'must read' is a bit of an exaggeration. I looked at page one and it really was of little consequence.

I said "Oh boy" more than a couple times, and I only read parts of one page. The best part is when he says the "Soon, Mike would be in charge and the music would take a turn for the worse." Funny, I thought it was Brian, not Mike, who wrote and produced almost the entirety of their next two albums (15 Big Jobs and Love You). Several inaccuracies in there.

Agree with comments, but it was short and humorous. ofc its more complicated than anyone could put together in one article, but it gives a quick overview that would be informing to most but the most diehard fans (which this community is)

One question: I don't want to get hung up on inaccuracies but does Holland really count as a commercial disaster? Personally I always thought of it as a bit of a comeback for them, not nearly as huge as Endless Summer of course, but certainly not bad overall. (Wasn't it even awarded one of Rolling Stones' albums of the year?) Still, I wasn't there at the time so I can only speculate about the overall impact it left in 1973, though I do know it didn't make the top 20, right?
