Title: Which sites do you look up album reviews on?
Post by: MyGlove on May 23, 2012, 09:46:13 PM
Or what specific critics do you find agree with your taste most of the time? It's odd, but I've found that both Pitchfork and Robert Christgau are the ones i find myself reading all the time. what about you?

I check out Pitchfork, FACT Mag [ http://www.factmag.com/category/reviews/ ], and Resident Advisor [electronic music] pretty much everyday, and tend to swing by AllMusic when I'm looking for older releases.

I go to allmusic because they have all the credits and chart positions there as well.
I know many people hate that Steve Irwing but I like his reviews. He tells you,  these were singles, this is were the band was in their career and stuff like that.

Yeah I find the ratings on All Music a good indicator, although I think they're a little harsh on Holland (2 1/2 stars!).

Metacritic is also good for a general sense of what is recent, and worth checking out. Pitchfork too.

I really enjoy George Starostin's ones.

Honestly? I'll often check out the general consensus on Amazon.com to get an idea of how good an album is.

I usually just check the wikipedia page on an album and look at the reviews posted.  I generally like allmusic too, but there's little things that bother me.  One being every beatles album is five stars

Metacritic is probably best and easiest to get a consensus.

I don't have an individual favorite source--The Onion/AVClub is great for film reviews, but fairly awful for music reviews. Every half-assed indie band with a moronic name gets way too much praise there, sorry to say.

Rate Your Music is one I use as well. Except they definitely have way too much of a bias towards bands like Radiohead, Arcade Fire, The Shins etc. (modern indie). That kinda bothers me.

oh man, I used to read those all the time! I don't agree with a lot of his opinions but from a literary standpoint I love reading his reviews. they're so entertaining.

Anywhere and everywhere. I read a lot of reviews before I buy anything.

Oh sorry, Stephen Erlewine is the name of the infamous reviewer on allmusic. Steve Irving I think is the late crocodile hunter.

I generally read Pitchfork's reviews, but often disagree with their number ratings. Aside from that, I'm another fan of rateyourmusic.com
