Title: The Dream Setlist! Post by: RubberSoul13 on May 18, 2012, 02:30:58 PM Whenever I'm prepping for a tour, I like to compile a "dream set list" of the band or artist I'm going to see, and then see how close it turns out after the show...of course I've been following the set for this tour, so I'll keep the formating the same, but here is my dream set list...share your own! 8)

Post by: AndrewHickey on May 18, 2012, 03:14:29 PM Mine would be a combination of the setlists for Brian's 2002 summer tour and Mike, Bruce and David's 2008 UK tour, with a few spots for Al. I'm not too keen on the early hits (I've heard them too much) but I'd keep a few of them in for David, and to stop the crowd . I'd also give a few of the backing band a song each, so we'd get a longer set without tiring the principals.
1 You're Welcome 2 Do It Again 3 Don't Back Down 4 Hawaii 5 Little Honda 6 Surfer Girl 7 When I Grow Up To Be A Man 8 Good To My Baby 9 Forever (David on vocal -- no videos) 10 Darlin' (Darian lead) 11 Warmth Of The Sun (Foskett lead) 12 Kiss Me Baby 13 Let Him Run Wild (Totten lead -- seriously, he's *staggering* on this) 14 Summer In Paradise (seriously. You need one late Mike track to cover all of their career, and far rather this than Kokomo) 15 The Night Was So Young 16 Busy Doin' Nothin' 17 California 18 Don't Worry Baby (Al lead, like on the In Concert album) 19 Honkin' Down The Highway 20 409 21 Shut Down 22 I Get Around INTERMISSION 23 Friends (around the piano, like they do Add Some Music) (mini Pet Sounds set, starting with hits so as not to startle people) 24 Sloop John B 25 God Only Knows (Bruce lead) 26 Wouldn't It Be Nice 27 I Just Wasn't Made For These Times 28 Here Today 29 You Still Believe In Me (Al lead) (mini acoustic set) 30 Til I Die 31 In My Room 32 All This Is That 34 Disney Girls 35 Please Let Me Wonder (mini acoustic set ends) 36 This Whole World 37 Breakaway 38 Sail On Sailor (Cowsill lead) (mini Smile set) 39 Our Prayer 40 Heroes & Villains (Smile version with cantina and Bicycle Rider, Al lead, Cowsill sings Bicycle Rider, Mike on the cantina) 41 Vegetables (Al lead) 42 Cabinessence 43 Wonderful 44 Surf's Up 45 Good Vibrations (hits to finish) 46 California Girls 47 Do You Wanna Dance (Dave Marks lead vocal) 48 Rhonda 49 Surfin' Safari 50 Surfin' USA (encore) 51 Barbara Ann (I loathe it but people will want it) 52 Fun Fun Fun (ending the way Brian's band do it with Scott Bennett playing Rhapsody In Blue) Title: Re: The Dream Setlist! Btw- love the set Andrew! A bit deeper than I would care to go at times, and probably a bit longer than the boys would care to go, but it would make a great "This one's for the fans!!!" night! Title: Re: The Dream Setlist! Post by: Magic Transistor Radio on May 18, 2012, 04:47:39 PM My dream set would never happen. Although Brian's Pet Sounds and SMiLE tours came close.
But I would love to see Mount Vernon and Fairway performed live! Title: Re: The Dream Setlist! Post by: EgoHanger1966 on May 18, 2012, 04:52:34 PM They have to do Kokomo, people would be really pissed if they didn't
One thing that surprised me about finally seeing the show is that the songs I didn't think I would be into (or the ones I don't love in their recorded forms) come to life in their live versions and are really cool and engaging. I'm looking at you, Why Do Fools Fall In Love and Rock N Roll Music. Title: Re: The Dream Setlist! Which is surprising in the case of RRM given that it's been a historically dull live number for me. Title: Re: The Dream Setlist! I like Al's covers for some reason tho! ??? They can't NOT play Kokomo, and it is just unrealistic to think it possible. I don't liket his self-proclaimed fact, but I bet more than half the people that hear about this tour wouldn't know who The Beach Boys were if it wasn't for Kokomo. Title: Re: The Dream Setlist! Post by: EgoHanger1966 on May 18, 2012, 05:09:41 PM I don't dislike Do You Wanna Dance, but dude, if Brian sings it ANYTHING like he sang it last night, you're gonna love it.
Tempted to say it was his most powerful vocal of the night! Title: Re: The Dream Setlist! Post by: AndrewHickey on May 19, 2012, 04:59:06 AM They have to do Kokomo, people would be really pissed if they didn't I was doing a dream set for a gig I'd be able to attend, so for a UK audience. Kokomo only got to number 25 over here -- Friends charted that high -- and has been largely forgotten. I've actually heard Sumahama on the radio more often than Kokomo. They do do that one when they come over here, but it usually doesn't get the crowd excited, and Bruce often semi-apologetically introduces it saying it was a big hit in lots of other places. As for the length of the set I posted, yes it would be long -- but it's exactly as many songs as Mike & Bruce did in 2008 and fewer than Brian did in 2002, and other than California Saga they're all songs I've seen one or (usually) both bands perform live, so it would be just about possible, though I agree it's not *actually* going to happen. |
