Title: NME Single Of The Week
Post by: Disney Boy (1985) on May 13, 2012, 07:26:14 AM
TWGMTR has been made Single Of The Week in the latest issue of uber-hip UK music magazine NME. In the review - which describes the Beach Boys as 'one of the greatest bands of all time' - the reviewer acknowledges that, while it's hardly a classic BB song, it's still a decent track, and concludes (brilliantly) with 'it's unlikely to set the world on fire, but then the Beach Boys already have'.

(Personally i don't like TWGMTR at all, but hey ho... Always nice to see the BB's being lavished with praise).

This IS a turn-up or the books; I haven't read NME regularly since I was a teenager – for that mag to pick up on TWGMTR has to have cred and hipness, baby!

That's really a perfect way to describe the song. I'm glad someone's given it a review like that. Sure, it's not the greatest thing they've ever done, but they didn't need to release the greatest single of their careers. I love how they make that point.

I generally don't read NME, i just picked it up because i noticed they were doing a tribute to the (excellent) Adam Yauch. The TWGMTR review was a pleasant surprise. it's a good review, worth seeking out (I've not been able to find it online yet).

Don't mean to come across as sarky, but NME hasn't been in any way hip for many moons now.

I've never gotten that impression, my friends and I here in the states regularly check out their website for music news.

wasn't it an NME poll that placed the Boys above the Beatles as best vocal group back in '66?

a positive review is always nice, but i think the song is pretty classic and right up there with Goin On... their last great single to these ears.

I have a soft spot for Rock N Roll To The Rescue but I can definitely agree with that.
