Title: Re: \ Post by: Shady on May 05, 2012, 08:27:04 AM That's pretty impressive for a song that had no promotion
Title: Re: \ Post by: JohnMill on May 05, 2012, 09:25:48 AM I wonder if "tuning in the latest star" is a bit of a nefarious subliminal message.
Is Brian encouraging us to listen to Taylor Swift and Bieber? The world may never know. Title: Re: \ Post by: Rocker on May 05, 2012, 10:41:37 AM Let's get that damn thing into the U.S.Charts too
Title: Re: \ Post by: Steve Mayo on May 05, 2012, 11:40:39 AM i bought it today...sounds great. not sure if it will be a hit but it does sound great.
Title: Re: \ Post by: Zach95 on May 05, 2012, 11:42:16 AM If it debuted at 93 in Japan, I can assure you it debuted higher than that in the US.
Title: Re: \ Post by: the professor on May 05, 2012, 12:07:57 PM I am not aware of how to start a thread and too new to presume to do so, but may I raise a question here that I hope some bibliographer, one of our leaders on this site, can properly direct.
Will the BB be singing TWG. . on the Jimmy Fallon show on Monday, and will that propel it to a kind of chart oriented popularity it has not yet achieved. I have not see discussion of the upcoming appearance yet on the board; does it merit a thread? thanks to all Title: Re: \ Post by: Lowbacca on May 05, 2012, 12:10:16 PM Yes, I guess they will be performing the new single. Anyone familiar with the proceedings of the show? Do they get to play only one tune, or maybe two (or three)?
Title: Re: \ Post by: Pretty Funky on May 05, 2012, 01:16:09 PM 'Propel' is too strong a word for the 2012 Beach Boys. :old
May I suggest 'Gently Ease'? Title: Re: \ Post by: Eric Aniversario on May 05, 2012, 01:17:39 PM I think it will chart here come tuesday, it sold pretty well on amazon. My guess? #63.
Title: Re: \ Post by: the professor on May 05, 2012, 01:26:48 PM Gently ease it is! So much happening: listening to youtube clips, listening over and over and reading over and over the Walmart Zine, listening to TWG over and over, likely 300 times so far, as many of you have, waiting for BB on late-nite Monday, etc. This is all too much.
QVC is going to sell the actual album on an 800 # on May 16?; so if you ordered it on Amazon for June 5? I am happy to buy it in both fora if it helps the BB cause. I hope Jimmy Fallon says "get this song now and let's make it a big hit for our BB!" Is the chart that we will use to measure the success of the song the "billboard hot 100"? best to all, Title: Re: \ Post by: Rocker on May 05, 2012, 01:31:02 PM If the Beach Boys are on TV monday, I hope someone will record it and upload it on youtube. Please !
Title: Re: \ Post by: the professor on May 05, 2012, 01:58:12 PM I should also say I have listened to TWG in every concert clip and it appears to go over big, but I see a raging discussion everywhere as to whether too many voices are trying to help Brian or if he is autoimmune or autotunes, or spooned in June or something--this is mind-numbing; but can we analyze whether the parts are going well in life performance? The bottom and middle sound strong (Mike, Al, Bruce), but I keep hearing the top as too screechy and off key: is that Brian and Jeff trying for too much? I can only hope we get a vibrant, direct and tuneful version when millions are watching on TV; we need some crackerjack sound men for that performance--and Leno too next month.

They should have released it weeks ago before the tour started. Title: Re: \ Post by: Alan Smith on May 05, 2012, 11:54:26 PM Nothing to report from the Australian charts at this stage, sadly and suprisingly - I'll keep an eye on things.
I sent the YouTube link to my mum and sister yesterday, maybe that will get the ball rolling... Title: Re: \ Post by: harrisonjon on May 06, 2012, 01:59:40 PM No sign of it in the UK chart.
Title: Re: \ Post by: cablegeddon on May 06, 2012, 02:08:52 PM But if this is Billboards Japan chart and not the official chart, how trustworthy is it?
Title: Re: \ Post by: stack-o-tracks on May 06, 2012, 02:28:22 PM If the Beach Boys are on TV monday, I hope someone will record it and upload it on youtube. Please ! It'll definitely be online. A lot of late night TV shows have official channels for performances. Title: Re: \ Post by: Pretty Funky on May 06, 2012, 10:11:41 PM Won't be happening in NZ yet. Not available on itunes NZ. Geez...
Blowed if I will pay 2 1/2 times the price to get it through itunes US. Aust also seems to have it at a inflated price. What gives in this tech age? Title: Re: \ Post by: William Bowe on May 07, 2012, 06:35:54 AM Quote That is the most important chart. And #93 is the most important position on it. Title: Re: \ Post by: SMiLE Brian on May 07, 2012, 07:06:25 AM The BBs are big in Japan!
Title: Re: \ Post by: Rocker on May 07, 2012, 09:10:32 AM I think not to release TWGMTR as a CD single as soon as the video was online was/is a missed opportunity. I'm afraid that now it won't sell that much. But hopefully I'm wrong
Title: Re: \ Post by: Wirestone on May 07, 2012, 10:03:43 AM I think not to release TWGMTR as a CD single as soon as the video was online was/is a missed opportunity. I'm afraid that now it won't sell that much. But hopefully I'm wrong How many CD singles have you seen on sale recently? How many have you bought? The format is extinct. At least in the U.S. Title: Re: \ Post by: the professor on May 09, 2012, 08:32:58 AM Is it this thread still active? Will it be monitoring the billboard charts to see if the new song has gained any acclaim?
Title: Re: \ Post by: pixletwin on May 09, 2012, 10:26:25 AM I don't think I have seen a single CD since the Mid 90's. :lol
Title: Re: \ Post by: Zach95 on May 09, 2012, 07:47:11 PM Is it this thread still active? Will it be monitoring the billboard charts to see if the new song has gained any acclaim? Nothing on the charts yet. Though the Greatest Hits Volume 1 has re-entered the albums chart at 161, and the Catalog Albums chart at 26. |
