Title: My cover/arrangement of a friend's song
Post by: monicker on May 04, 2012, 10:03:49 PM
I don’t think i’ve posted anything of mine in this section (at least not since around 2004) but decided to do so with this track because i’ve never quite recorded anything this poppy and i figured it’s probably the closest thing of mine that might garner any interest here, and was curious what some would think of it. It's my cover of a friend's song. I liked the idea of covering one of my (unknown) contemporaries, as was a common practice decades ago. My friend recorded her song very minimally: only a bass line and an intermittent melodic line both played on a toy keyboard, and one track of vocals. I went nuts with the arrangement & production (i.e. over-arranged it as i tend to do with most of my stuff), added some harmonic elements that weren't there, and added some extra sections; it really has no resemblance to the original recording.

This is really good! What does your friend think of it?

Yeah, I do like this.  I started out thinking its a bit noisy (what can I say, I'm getting old) but then I settled in and enjoyed  it.  Thanks for posting.

Thanks. She was honored that someone covered one of her songs, and she thought it was better than her version. I wasn't too pleased with the way the vocals turned out, so i wanted her to record the vocals, which i thought would've been weirdly meta and neat, but it didn't happen.
