Title: Brian plotting next Beach Boys album ... Post by: Wirestone on May 04, 2012, 04:36:59 PM http://www2.tbo.com/entertainment/entertainment/2012/may/03/7/fxnewso8-golden-boys-ar-399218/?referer=None&shorturl=http%3A%2F%2Ftbo.ly%2FIMf8Fy
There is no definite plan beyond their current tour but Wilson would like to record another Beach Boy album. "This time I would like to do some rock n' roll," Wilson says. "I would like it to be a bit harder and faster." So the future looks bright since Wilson and Love have been able to look past their differences and lawsuits filed against each other. "That's all history," Love said. "It's all forgotten about. We're looking at our present and future. I think we're going to be doing this again with Brian for a long time." Title: Re: Brian plotting next Beach Boys album ... Post by: Chocolate Shake Man on May 04, 2012, 04:43:08 PM Haha - the infamous "rock and roll" album is back!
Do you think they'll put Proud Mary on it? Title: Re: Brian plotting next Beach Boys album ... Post by: Chris Brown on May 04, 2012, 04:44:48 PM Very interesting indeed - even without having heard the new album, it bodes well that Brian is already talking of doing another.
Title: Re: Brian plotting next Beach Boys album ... Post by: Autotune on May 04, 2012, 04:58:21 PM Amazing. Up until a few months ago the BBs as a contemporary performing and recording force did not exist. Had been that way for a decade and a half. And now, not only are they a contemporary, happening force but they also have plans for the future.
Never ever did I dare to dream something like what's going on these days. It seemed futile in its impossibility. Title: Re: Brian plotting next Beach Boys album ... Post by: ♩♬🐸 Billy C ♯♫♩🐇 on May 04, 2012, 05:08:45 PM Interesting...

Post by: Biggus Dikkus on May 04, 2012, 05:16:31 PM This fabled rock and roll album is the new SMiLE. ;D As much as I would like that, it most likely won't happen. Ever.I will sell my left nut if you're correct though. Title: Re: Brian plotting next Beach Boys album ... Post by: Justin on May 04, 2012, 05:22:54 PM Oh I just pray that it does continue. It would be great.
A small part of me, though, wouldn't be surprised that the writer of that peice took a little journalistic license and took Brian's comments about the next Beach Boys album a little out of context....Brian says that he would like to write a harder album...he didn't specifically say with The Beach Boys. Anyway..just trying to keep an even head about this! ;D But mike's comments do sound promising. Title: Re: Brian plotting next Beach Boys album ... Post by: Shady on May 04, 2012, 05:30:25 PM It's something that could so easily be done..
Just let Brian into the studio Title: Re: Brian plotting next Beach Boys album ... Post by: Phoenix on May 04, 2012, 05:34:57 PM Great news! And if nothing else, it's great that the guys feel that way right now, regardless of what the future brings.

Exactly because brian said this album and tour is closure for him.it is a little miracle if he can stay with them this whole tour, and fulfill this whole tour,we all know about brian's health.and al jardine also said this is for sure the last beach boys reunion. A small part of me, though, wouldn't be surprised that the writer of that peice took a little journalistic license and took Brian's comments about the next Beach Boys album a little out of context....Brian says that he would like to write a harder album...he didn't specifically say with The Beach Boys. Post by: Wirestone on May 04, 2012, 05:46:46 PM I've said all along that if the tour and album do well, it's foolish to expect the reunion to "end."
Yes, Mike and Bruce will go back to touring hard on their own. (Maybe with Al or Dave.) But I can see mini-tours with for full lineup for years to come. And if the album does well (which it definitely could), nothing inspires Brian like success and popular acclaim. You could easily see another couple of albums if the guys are willing. Title: Re: Brian plotting next Beach Boys album ... Post by: onkster on May 04, 2012, 05:51:43 PM How about if Brian just stays off-tour after this, works up some new songs with a cool collaborator (like, say, VDP), then when the guys come back from touring, Brian can play them the tracks and get them to lay down vocals?
How can it lose??? Title: Re: Brian plotting next Beach Boys album ... Post by: Runaways on May 04, 2012, 05:52:36 PM i'm fairly certain any time brian wants to record an album, the guys would absolutely be there.

Title: Re: Brian plotting next Beach Boys album ... Post by: Wirestone on May 04, 2012, 06:25:26 PM 1991-2 -- With Landy
1994 -- With Don Was 1997 -- With Joe Thomas 2006 -- With Scott Bennett At least four! Title: Re: Brian plotting next Beach Boys album ... Post by: Chocolate Shake Man on May 04, 2012, 06:34:55 PM You're forgetting 2013 - with the Beach Boys on That's Why God Made John Forgerty (I'm sure Al will be on board).

Only the Don Was one (on the Landylocked boot) has circulated, right? Title: Re: Brian plotting next Beach Boys album ... Post by: Ron on May 04, 2012, 06:38:04 PM Glad to hear Brian's enjoying himself enough to keep working with them. It's been a pet peeve of mine that everybody keeps referring to this as the Beach Boys final album, when nobody ever said any such thing.
LONG LIVE THE BEACH BOYS! Title: Re: Brian plotting next Beach Boys album ... Post by: Shady on May 04, 2012, 06:38:54 PM Are Pleasure Island and The "Rock n Roll" album two different things?
I'll never forget that picture of Brian at the piano around the time of TLOS with a music sheet that had "pleasure island" scrawled on it Title: Re: Brian plotting next Beach Boys album ... Post by: Ron on May 04, 2012, 06:40:55 PM i'm fairly certain any time brian wants to record an album, the guys would absolutely be there. In my opinion, it may well be the most beautiful thing about the Beach boys. For all the fighting and strange relationships they've had over the years, for all the mental illness, the drug abuse, the alcoholism... etc.... If Brian writes a song, they work their ass off on it, whether it's "I Just Got My Pay", or "This Whole World". Their admiration for his musical ability has never even wavered, much less diminished. They adore the guy. Title: Re: Brian plotting next Beach Boys album ... Only the Don Was one (on the Landylocked boot) has circulated, right? There is a poor-quality tape of Brian playing someone the Landy version while riding in a car (!) of all things. IIRC, it sounds pretty much the same. Title: Re: Brian plotting next Beach Boys album ... Post by: b00ts on May 04, 2012, 06:49:00 PM 1991-2 -- With Landy Somewhat paradoxically, the differences in style between these versions of the song may say more about Brian's collaborators than Brian himself. Perhaps running through "Proud Mary" is a good way for Brian to get a feel for his current creative environment... or perhaps it is, indeed, just the new "Shortenin' Bread."1994 -- With Don Was 1997 -- With Joe Thomas 2006 -- With Scott Bennett At least four! I love how Brian sings "roll, roll, rollin' down the river" in "Goin' Home" from That Lucky Old Sun. Neat throwback. Title: Re: Brian plotting next Beach Boys album ... Post by: Ron on May 04, 2012, 06:57:16 PM Supposedly that album was written while Melinda was out of town for the weekend.... Brian called Scott, and they wrote all the songs (Instead of Brian doing something destructive while left alone).
So..... Melinda famously is considered the one who got him the mental help he needed.... And.... his obsession with "Proud Mary" could be considered part of his disorder..... I always thought it was interesting that he seems to be singing "She Don't Know, That I Been Rollin' On the River" in the background.... Title: Re: Brian plotting next Beach Boys album ... Post by: Fro on May 04, 2012, 07:27:35 PM If Brian really wants to do another album, I think it'll definitely happen (health-permitting).
There's really no reason any more for the other guys not to want to work with Brian, and there's not many good reasons that Brian would want to work solo if everyone's really patched things up. Title: Re: Brian plotting next Beach Boys album ... Post by: Phoenix on May 04, 2012, 07:45:09 PM nothing inspires Brian like success and popular acclaim. Ain't that the truth! For as much as the collapse of Smile (and everything else going on at that time) foced him to "pull back", it's nothing compared to what the failure of Sunflower did to him. Bang. Just like that, he was gone. He went from full, healthy, and commercial participation on one album, to mininimal involvement on the next; where his biggest contribution was a very dark song about how small he felt. And when did he come back? When the boys were on top of the world, following the release of Endless Summer. Then after Love You tanked, he was gone again. He's got a lot of issues and disappointment really hurts his feelings to some degree. There's no point doing it if no one cares and he feels the reverse is true in spades! Title: Re: Brian plotting next Beach Boys album ... Post by: Ron on May 04, 2012, 09:04:41 PM He's point blank said it many times over the years (That he likes to have hits)
Title: Re: Brian plotting next Beach Boys album ... Post by: Wirestone on May 04, 2012, 09:25:36 PM He's point blank said it many times over the years (That he likes to have hits) Which is why I think Imagination is a more honest slice of BW than many people believe. It was an expression of a real desire he has -- to please people and to have hit records. He thought that was a way to do it. People have let Mike set up this false dichotomy -- Brian as melancholy and Mike as positivity -- when Brian was responsible for some of the most extroverted and joyous music from the band. And that joy -- that sunshine-y sound -- is what gave the group nearly all its smashes. Rhonda. I Get Around. Good Vibes. Brian has a hitmaker's heart, with an artist's brain. Or maybe it's the other way around. Title: Re: Brian plotting next Beach Boys album ... Post by: Phoenix on May 04, 2012, 09:47:12 PM Amen.
Title: Re: Brian plotting next Beach Boys album ... Post by: Jaspy on May 04, 2012, 09:51:56 PM If TWGMTR will be a top seller, and it will be a top seller, there's no question that there will be a follow-up album.
They already have some tracks ready, leftovers from TWGMTR, some by Al, one by Marks, I'm sure Brian has enough new old songs lying in the basement. Post by: Rocker on May 05, 2012, 05:27:58 AM I can see Mike having fun doing a Rock'n'Roll album, so it sounds possible for a Beach Boys record. Don't have a clue if it will happen, though. I guess Brian just blurted this out in a euphoric way but since this is Beach Boys land we don't know how many lawsuites are going to happen after the tour.
