Title: Does "Do It Again 2012" use digital samples of the 1968 version? Post by: PhilCohen on May 02, 2012, 12:50:01 PM Does the new version of "Do It Again" use digital samples of the guitar and/or drum sounds from the 1968 version? It certainly sounds that way during the intro of the 2012 version.
Title: Re: Does \ Post by: Bubba Ho-Tep on May 02, 2012, 01:08:27 PM Sounds that way to me.

The original snare was put through a weirdly set reverb. I accidently found the setting once; I didn't save it. The cowbell sounding percussion instrument on Slip On Through has it too.Title: Re: Does \ Post by: Runaways on May 02, 2012, 01:21:37 PM didn't brian claim that the drum sound was a metronome sped up to a crazy high speed?
Title: Re: Does \ Post by: b00ts on May 02, 2012, 01:42:26 PM didn't brian claim that the drum sound was a metronome sped up to a crazy high speed? I think I remember him saying that he saturated the tape machine head to get the robotic, distorted sound (see: Heroes and Villains sections, but done in a more manageable way). I could be misremembering it, though.Title: Re: Does \ Post by: Iron Horse-Apples on May 02, 2012, 01:58:54 PM The drum sound is solely down to Steve Desper, and is a delay added on mixdown I think. Search the site. Steve goes into great detail on this and other songs.

Title: Re: Does \ Post by: DonnyL on May 02, 2012, 02:29:15 PM Yes, the new version uses a sample of the old one (hope they credit Desper!). It's a custom-made Philips tape delay unit set to a super fast delay w/ repeat.
Title: Re: Does \ Post by: Autotune on May 03, 2012, 06:15:06 AM There's like ten pages on the drum effect in the Steve Desper thread.
Title: Re: Does \ Post by: onkster on May 03, 2012, 07:15:59 AM You could get that EXACT same drum sound using the old Radio Shack analog reverb box! It's the only thing I ever bought that could make that kind of sound. (I'm referring to the effect on Denny's drums.)
