Does the new version of "Do It Again" use digital samples of the guitar and/or drum sounds from the 1968 version? It certainly sounds that way during the intro of the 2012 version.

Unless they found a way to make the drums in the intro sound exactly the same as 1969, then yes.

The original snare was put through a weirdly set reverb. I accidently found the setting once; I didn't save it. The cowbell sounding percussion instrument on Slip On Through has it too.

I think I remember him saying that he saturated the tape machine head to get the robotic, distorted sound (see: Heroes and Villains sections, but done in a more manageable way). I could be misremembering it, though.

The drum sound is solely down to Steve Desper, and is a delay added on mixdown I think. Search the site. Steve goes into great detail on this and other songs.

Yes, the new version uses a sample of the old one (hope they credit Desper!).  It's a custom-made Philips tape delay unit set to a super fast delay w/ repeat.

You could get that EXACT same drum sound using the old Radio Shack analog reverb box! It's the only thing I ever bought that could make that kind of sound. (I'm referring to the effect on Denny's drums.)
