Through this I found my all time favorite Mike Love moment. I knew he'd stretch the "wheeeeen", but how they lead into the song from there is hilarious:

Hadn't seen that bra clip -  Al's putting some great energy into his performance. He gets my 100% rating for that alone.

Funny stuff! Al is really nailing that lead! They need to drop that horrible sax solo though, get the piano solo back in there!

Union rules I'm afraid. All concerts, even a Tibetan meditation bowl ensemble, must contain at least one sax solo.

I would love to see Brian's face during that skit.  ;D

Probably something à la:

I wish the person taping would have caught it but Just a few more seconds after that clip there was this exchange:

Mike:  "I guess it wasn't your cup of tea!"

Al: "Two cups of tea!"

(Mike Laughs)

Al: We're too old for that.

I don't think they refer to the classic James brown routine, they make fun of their advanced age. But what makes it so funny is that as soon Mike is up again, he signals to the band the start of the bar with a move of his elbow, and everybody is spot on. That's perfect comedy timing.

Like they always have been since they started playing the song live. Same moves from Mike. Nothing new here.

Bra or no bra, that clip perfectly explains why this tour HAD to happen. Irrespective of what may or may not be goign on behind the scenes, the complete and utter joy of being, just once more, The Beach Boys has energised them all.

And make no mistake, these are The Beach Boys.

I also like the clip of "Mike & Brian banter" from Raleigh, reminiscing onstage about their high school days.

My attitude has changed a bit in the last few months over Mikes onstage jokes. In the last year I have seen 2 concerts by 60's artists and both had banter about age. In truth I feel his act is relevant to the audience as most would be getting up in years themselves.

In fact one artist who does annoy me for seeming to be in denial mode is Mick Jagger. While watching the 'Shine A Light' movie my main memory is the singlet wearing horde of beauties planted in front of the stage. Considering it was a fundraiser for charity organised by Clinton, and most of the audience would have been of his era and wealthy, it was amazing that these fakes all just happened to get to the front rows!!!

Feel free to correct me but Mike has had onstage cheese since the early days. Case in point is 'Monster Mash' from the first live album.

As said, nothing new here, but also nothing unique for 60's artists IMO.

Yes that was great and Brian perked up. More of those unprompted memories during the tour please.

The Stones filmed two shows for "Shine A Light"--only one of them was in support of Clinton's charity group.  The "models" up front were just that---actual stand-in/extras planted by Scorcese and/or his crew.  It was film---in all aspects of the word:  casting to the phoney drama about "Scorcese needing a setlist to plan his movie."

Jagger isn't in denial.  He's a dude that knows that if you don't use it--you lose it.  He's got an image to keep up and he does what he can to make sure audiences leave a Stones show and know that they got the Jagger that they all were expecting.  If anything, his onstage antics is a sign just how much he distrusts his audience; he thinks that we need him to be this way.  Sad thing is, most of the casual fans who attend Stones concerts---only expect him to be that way.

Take a look at the pre concert footage. Jagger is a micro manager and had a say in every aspect of that show, including the hotties.

Jagger was better before he decided to be a combination of a PE teacher leading the class in running and calesthenics, and Britney Spears.  He didn't run around the stage like a madman in the '70s and '60s, he mostly stood in one spot and danced.  It has something to do with the wireless gear they've developed since, but it looks ridiculous for a guy of any age.  The combination of his rubbery/leathery facial features and the frantic physical activity remind me of Jerry Lewis more than James Brown.

Luckily there's other stuff going on at a Stones show other than Mick's aerobic workout.

They need Mike Taylor and Bill Wyman to come back.

Well we might all get that wish...Bill has already joined them for a very informal jam session in London this past December (first time they've all been in the same room, playing music, since 1990) and  Bill has gone on record saying that it's clear that they want him to join them for their next tour if/when it happens.  And just this week the Stones just arrived in NYC for jam # 2 and Mick Taylor will be in town all next week to play at a local Jazz Club.  So whatever happens...everything is set for something to come out of it.

Sorry for the minor Stones derailment of this thread....

+1, right on, AGD. I don't know why Mike doesn't get more credit for his sterling, dry (and sometimes corny) sense of humor. He is a really funny man.

I've been to tons of concerts with 50's and 60's acts, and believe me, the old-age jokes KILL with those crowds.

BTW, Mike kinda knows what he's doing.  Longest serving frontman and all.

It's very likely possible that he knows more about working a crowd than you or I do.

That's the thing about Brian that freaks out/confuses a lot of people - sometimes, he's either on of off, and he can switch between those two in a heartbeat. Look at the eyes... and Mike is right, Brian's memory can sometimes just floor you with it's detail and accuracy.

Yes, definitely. Coach told me many times that Brian could, if he wanted to, tell the exact details of most any 60s session he did, including which musicians played which instruments and who else was there!  Sure wish Coach was here today.

Now, that to me sums up this whole fan thing, and the bond. We just say "Coach" and we all know who that is: honestly, I hardly ever recall anyone calling him Bob. Likewise, very few friends of his call (the other) Alan anything except Boyd. Non-BB friends of mine call me AGD without having the least idea why. It's the ties, and the music, that bind.
