If they all get along, I see minitours into the future.  Brian at some level likes the feedback from a live audience, and this is much less work for him than the solo tours -- he could sustain smaller tours with the band for more years than he could as a solo artist.  Plus -- the backup guys will be able to inherit the mantle and be able to authentically tour as the Beach Boys for decades to come -- sort of like the Count Basie Orchestra -- continuing to bring money into BRI.

I dont see that happening.Brian also said in some interviews before this short tour that people should know he is only doing this for the 50th anniversary.He also told he thinks this is the right closure for him and the beach boys story for him,he said ''i'll rejoin them one last time for the 50th anniversary,then beach boys story is over for me,i will keep performing my songs only with my own band'' So this is really a closure for brian.

People change their minds sometimes -- and with Smile and so many other things, Brian's changing of mind is legendary. 

Also Al has talked about a second new album.  That's not going to happen if Brian's not on board.

We will see I guess.

We may see Brian staying home and working on a 2nd album while the group is out on the road.

Most of us here have moved on from that. Mike and Bruce's band might only have one original member but they've kept a flame alive for years and in recent years their shows have been something to behold, especially this euro shows with extended deeper set lists.

The scenario whereby Brian stays home and produces while the other four tour together isn't too far fetched and it does seem that a lot of that might have already been happening for the TWGMTR album before we knew anything about it.

Does rather depend on the backing band I reckons - most are creative musicians in their own right with careers outside the Beach Boys. They might not want to spend too long on board what's already looking just a little like the ol' travelling jukebox with a few deep catalogue songs thrown in for our benefit. Which is appreciated, of course, Mr Powers That Be!

Meh, all those audience recordings sound like crap.  I'll wait for the officially released stuff.


So the opinions of Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, and the estate of Carl Wilson shouldn't be taken into consideration?  Those are the folks who voted to allow Mike to use the name at live shows.

To tell you the truth, I haven't read thos statements by Brian. Not to say it ain't what he's thinking but where do you have these statements from ?

I had a fantastic time at the Dallas show, and I will buy any DVD/CD that is made of this tour.  However, I disagree that all the audience recordings sound like crap.  They don't sound as good as released soundboard recordings, but a few are quite enjoyable to listen to and are in pretty good stereo.   There are some nice sounding ones on Youtube, a 10-minute clip with stereo audio of the end of first half medley (Little Deuce Coupe / 409 / Shut Down / I Get Around) and nice ones of Disney Girls and In My Room from the same user.

Of course, recording devices are not allowed into the shows, and at least at the Dallas show, there were ushers running around, making people turn off cell phones.

The released "live" recordings are all heavily edited and almost always overdubbed in the studio. I will bet a lot of money that if a CD of this tour is released, Brian will re-record his vocals in the studio, and Mike will probably at least enhance or double-track his vocals.  Released live recordings lack the excitement of the audience participation - often, they just put stock audience noise into the back two channels of a surround sound mix on the DVD.  Usually they cut Mike Love's banter, which is brief but quite funny, and very well received by the audience.  By making the recording sound like a polished studio recording, they take away the spontaneous excitement.

Beatle, I think you are confusing Brian with Al. To the best of my knowedge, Brother Records Inc. - the corporate entity that is The Beach Boys - licensed the name to Mike for his shows. So, Mike does not own it; it is rented or leased, as someone else said upthread.

In the early '00s, Alan was touring as Beach Boys Family and Friends. This name  was, in Alan's opinion, clearly not "The Beach Boys," but an offshoot comprising family and friends. BRI disagreed and prohibited him from continuing to use it.

This is for sure the last beach boys tour and new cd ever.

As you clearly do not know, that's ill-informed nonsense: any voting member who conforms to the terms laid down in the BRI license can call themselves The Beach Boys for touring purposes. Said license was voted into being on a 3-1 majority back in the late 90s, since when no-one has challenged it.

Someone asked Brian about that a few years ago, and his response was classic: "Well, Mike & Bruce are The Beach Boys, and Alan is Alan Jardine... but I'm Brian Wilson !"

Not everything in a magazine is true.Brian would never forget to mention Carl and Dennis as real beach boys even now they are gone ,he always mentions them ! He always tells in interviews Carl and Dennis are the real beach boys besides mike,Bruce,AL jardine and that it's too bad they are gone. He talked in several interviews about the current lineup from beach boys at that time of the interview,but he still always mentions Carl and Dennis as the real beach boys too in every interview if asked about it !

This reminds me of a nature show I watched last night where a hedgehog ate a centipede. I felt that in the sense of fairness I should explore the possibility that you are not clueless, so I visited  Dictionary.com. It was there that I discovered that you're, of course, wrong.  Again.  AND, while I could not find a place to check your claim on 3-1, I feel fairly safe in claiming that any results equal to  or greater than 2-1 would be considered a majority, so I believe 3-1 qualifies
