Title: Show 2: Verizon Theatre - Grand Prairie, TX 4/26/12 (SETLIST/PICS/REVIEWS)
Post by: Justin on April 25, 2012, 08:30:21 PM
Placeholder for tomorrow night's show.  Like the first thread, this thread should hopefully consolidate all setlist/pics/videos/reviews/autotune info etc into one thread for easy viewing!

Soundcheck/Meet and Greet

First update by Shadownoze of the soundcheck:

Posted notice outside saying this concert is being filmed.
Jardine being interviewed by merch table. Chatted with us for a moment.
The VIP host, "Stix," is a very nice young guy who travels with the tour. He takes the photos at the meet&greet.
Six or seven different t-shirts available, four hats, program, poster, hoodie, coffee mug, maybe more. VIP group will get first crack at it after sound check.
Sound check: Wendy (inst only)
Bruce thanked us for coming.
Catch a Wave/Don't Back Down/Surfin' Safari.
Not sure if this is different from Tucson, but Foskett is smack in front of Brian's piano, just behind Al.
Brian plays piano constantly, but didn't sing.
LDC/409/Shut Down
Sail On Sailor: Brian on lead, sounded good, messed with the melody a bit.
You're So Good To Me
That's Why God Made the Radio: nice!
California Dreamin'
After several stops and starts, Jardine addresses us early admitted: "Have we sucked all the glamor out of this for you guys yet?"
All Summer Long/Rhonda
Do You Wanna Dance
All this is that: band only

Lots of funny lines during sound check, which I'll try to recall.
At one point, Scott T. said, "Does anybody need more Darian?..that's a rhetorical question, Darian." Someone else said, "I got enough of Darian YEARS ago."
Rehearsing the ending of Sail On Sailor, Scott demonstrated what he wanted. Darian then asked, "Scott, do you wanna hear how Brian's been doing it?" After it was demonstrated, Brian's way won out.

Regarding the VIP goodie bag, it's not very impressive. The limited edition shirt is a plain White tee with the 50th logo  in a metallic gold. Tote bag is okay, poster is nothing special (but you could get I flat or rolled), souvenir lenticular ticket is pretty cool, lanyard with meet/greet pass is blah.
Saw Melinda at sound check, without glasses. Also, Billy Hinsche.

I wouldn't count on the autotuning to cease.

It might be out of The Beach Boys hands. As a musician myself it is a nearly impossible task to try and prevent all the tech-perfection minded folk in the racket to not impose the latest-greatest magic bullet potion for whatever human flaws might creep their way into any situation.

All these concert threads will eventually go to the Concert subsection.  For now, because of the high traffic on this board (unlike the concert subboard), the threads will be started and discussed here and once we get three or four concert threads here in this section, I will ask the moderators to move these out.

Let's not keep up the numbering trend for too long though. I think it'll be silly for it to be like "The seventh gig: boston!" and "show #37: Tokyo!" (those cities were examples and not indicative of actual tour locations. in fact just for the hell of it, show 63: newcastle! show 64: wolverhampton! show 67: surrey!)

haha yeah...I was gonna stop numbering after the third one.  Not sure why I picked three, per se,  but...meh...something about the "The First Three Shows" seemed special.

I'm going to the show tonight, sitting in the front row. I've got two hours before I report to the lobby at 4:00 for the VIP experience. Did not sleep much last night; this is like Christmas when I was a kid...and that's been a long, long time (since we've been strung out on love).

Well just like the "first gig" thread, once the setlist and pictures were made available, I inserted them into the first page of the topic for anyone who didn't want to sift through the entire thread.  I will do the same here.  So, if you don't want to follow the converstaions as it unfolds, just check this first page and see Post # 2 for the set list.

Heads up to all that board member Shadownoze has graciously agreed to send updates for tonight's show (three cheers for Shadownoze!).  I should make note that the updates will not be as frequent as they were during the Tuscon show...he might provide his first update by intermission and not neccessarily after each song or every other song.   So the updates might be a little slower--Just a small disclaimer.

One thing I've been wondering - who's singing Carl's part on this? Is Al doing the whole thing, is Brian taking it, is it Jeff, or is it Cowsill (who's sung that part with Mike's band)?

Brian's always been very appreciative of food.  If you listen to "bull session" or whatever that little track is on (Today maybe?), he's the only one that thanks Marilyn for bringing them food.  Check it out when you get time.

This is all so great.
I think the recent emotional roller coaster on this board has to do with the fact that we fans don't know how to handle this much excellent news coming in all the time. For us it's been mono/stereo mixes for years, with the occasional "where is Tandyn Almer living these days?". New album, full blown tours, cool new BB music... this is so unusual that our minds collapse.

Damn.  I'm no cheapskate but those shirts are expensive!
Pretty normal for a big-scale concert like this. Thirty bucks for a hat is pretty ridiculous too.

Paul McCartney charges about that also.

Yup, I got a poster, it was $20 the T shirt cost more then I spend in a normal month haha

Kind of in shock right now... :O

Someone threw her bra at Al.

Looking forward to seeing pics since I was way too into it to get any good ones. What an awesome night!

Mike and Bruce living up to the BB reputation of awful wardrobe choices...jeez guys look at the other 3 and then at yourselves!

The Al bra moment is beyond words....I would have been laughing hysterically!

Can't wait for 5/12!

LOL!!! Did it touch him? Did you get pics of it? That would instantly have been the best picture to come out of the entire tour even though the tour is only 2 shows deep so far.

It's a actually pretty cheap considering every hat for sale was once worn by Mike Love

2nd half:
Sloop
Wouldnt It Be Nice
California Dreamin': Al started, Brian did 2nd verse and seemed really engaged
Forever: very effective
Sail On Sailor: Bri very good on this, too
Heroes and Villains: great, w/ a Capella ending!
In My Room
All This Is That: loved it
God Only Knows: video of Carl was a couple beats behind the audio
That's Why God Made the Radio: goo, still a bit shaky, but after a few more dates this will be a big spot in the show.
California Girls
Dance Dance Dance
Help Me Rhonda: green bra tossed onstage, Mike hung it on Al's mic stand
Rock & Roll Music
Do You Wanna Dance: lead by Brian, no doubling...and I could not detect any auto tune tonight.
Barbara Ann
Surfin' USA (song in part one was actually Surfin Safari...but it was wrong in the stage lists, too
Usual encore: audience actually YELLING for Kokomo
Good Vibes
Fun Fun Fun

Great show, started on time at 7:30 and ended at 10.

BTW. Mike's looking pretty trim in the above pictures.

I think this is very important to Mike.  He knows the significance of this tour, and the Beach Boys have been his entire life, he really doesn't have anything else, other than family.  He's taking this extremely seriously, i'm sure, even to the point of trying to look good.

David does look so thrilled in all these pictures, that's great.  Every picture he's grinning from ear to ear, but I guess he's always been like that, the early pictures he has the same smile.  Seems like a great guy.  It's really good to see him finally get his dues, you've GOT to imagine that he's looked back on those couple years with a lot of fond memories... and now here he is back in the tempest.

There's nothing better in life than seeing something that you thought was gone... come back around one more time.

I'm guessing that it might have come from a lady of senior years, as you might typically expect at a show by a band of this vintage - if you enlarge the photo you can make out a wear pattern on the lower cups that is concomitant with the point at which her breasts rub against her knees as she walks.

There's also a label sewn into the seam bearing her initials: "TLOLFP".

TLOLFP = GILF ?

I can't believe I jsut typed that.

Anyways.  Ahem.

Poor Brian.  The thing with a back ache though is it's going to hurt him whether he's sitting on stage or sitting at home, so I think he'll stick with it and stay on the tour.  He's pretty professional, has he cancelled any shows due to health over the last several years?  I don't remember hearing anything about any.

Nice video.  Mike somehow is controlling the nasal.  I'll bet that mr fr' is working as hard as he possibly can, this guy is putting on a show, lol.  Hell they all are.  Even Bruce is working much harder than he does on the Mike & Bruce shows.  Maybe the larger crowds have reinvigorated them.

Good for him.  I hope he kicks ass for the rest of the tour.  It's amazing to see things like this in somebody's life, I'm happy for the guy, we should all be so lucky to experience TIME STANDING STILL like he is right now.

Kinda wish they would use  the BW Band arrangements.(Cantina Section,Hum be dums, Good Vibrations climax, Scott playing Rhapsody in Blue riff at the end of Fun, Fun, Fun etc.) I mean, If Totten & Cowsill are so great it should not be too hard for them to learn the parts.

There was no VIP option for the German shows ( well certainly not that I was aware of ) but I did manage to get a 1st row seat for Stuttgart

(EDIT: It looks like Mike and Bruce changed shirts. The ones they wore at the end look terrible. The one's they wore before look good)

Yes, please bring back "This whole world".
I guess the setlist will change from concert to concert a little. Wonder what we'll get tonight. The Beach Boys are back !

Gotta say I'm in agreement about the clothes.... they look WAY COOLER in this show than the first! Mike and Bruce don't have the cheesy shirts on in some photo's. Did they change shirts at some point during the show.

Also I CAN"T WAIT to see and hear David Marks! He looks to be having a blast. Never thought I would see a show like this. I thought the last time I saw Brian in 2009 was it for me. July 1st in Milwaukee can't come soon enough.

Believe it. It took a 50th Anniversary, but the BB have finally gotten their act together. They released the SMiLE sessions in a marvelous package, they've recorded a very respectable new single and what I hope to be an intriguing album, and they're killing live with a setlist and approach that mostly seems to be pleasing everybody. We've also got some kind of interesting archival set to look forward to later in the year: I wonder what that will be. Cherish these days, folks...

This was my first time to ever see BW or the Beach Boys live.

First of all, I was blown away by how good Brian sounded.  There were several times when Jeff stepped back and let Brian fly solo.  Fantastic.  B-Dub didn't exactly look ecstatic, but he did seem relatively relaxed for most of the show.

Al in particular sounded great too.  Of all the BBs, his voice seems to have survived the years best.

David Marks looked happy and played great.  If the set list was "oldies"-centric, it makes sense since David originally played on several of those tunes.

The video tributes struck me as a classy touch...liked them a lot.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the show, though I wished there had been more surprises, setlist-wise.  Also, it was pretty surreal to see so much of the crowd remain seated for "Heroes and Villains," yet standing for tunes like "Barbara Ann."

I can't remember who said if we didn't have autotune to complain about we'd just lock in something insignificant to bi.tch about, like, say, the stage design, but I'd hate to disappoint them, so... ;D

Man I hate that "50" on the proscenium.  It's like a cheesy 1930s-style, "That's Entertainment!" font so it's totally thematically inappprorpriate.  I really like the stage design overall but that "50" has a cheap clip-art look about it that just bugs the crap out of me.

Pretty normal for a big-scale concert like this. Thirty bucks for a hat is pretty ridiculous too.

Paul McCartney charges about that also.

Yup, I got a poster, it was $20 the T shirt cost more then I spend in a normal month haha

Exactly why I say they should sell the new cd for $15 at the stand.  Whata re most people going to choose?

Review: Beach Boys drown in nostalgia during 50th anniversary show

By Preston Jones

Posted 9:36am on Friday, Apr. 27, 2012

Grand Prairie -- It wasn't exactly a great day at the beach.

The Beach Boys, with all surviving, original members together on stage for the first time in two decades, including mystical figurehead Brian Wilson, took the stage at the Verizon Theatre Thursday night to mark the band's 50th anniversary. The myth has become legend: a small knot of family members in Hawthorne, Calif. and a friend from school get together, write some tunes about girls, surfing and cars, and in the process, become one of the most influential pop groups of all time.

The weight of that legacy was scarcely felt Thursday -- having a good time far outweighed any need to even briefly acknowledge the Beach Boys' place in pop history. While the band -- Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston, Brian Wilson and David Marks (brothers Carl and Dennis Wilson have long since passed; solemn tribute was paid to both deceased members) -- didn't betray too many signs of age, it took an awfully long time for the evening to shake off the cobwebs and find its groove. (In fairness, this was only the second show of the tour, which opened in Tucson, Ariz. earlier this week.)

With a staggering 15 musicians arrayed on stage, it quickly became evident -- sadly -- that this was merely going to be the ho-hum, state fair version of the Beach Boys that has crisscrossed the country for the last two decades, with Brian Wilson tacked on. Right down to the gaudy video screen with its low-rent graphics and surfboards tucked into one corner of the stage, very little about the presentation suggested this was a monumental occasion.

Indeed, Wilson appeared to be anywhere but present during the show's first half -- the 130-minute long night was split in two by a 20-minute intermission -- playing his white grand piano, betraying no emotion on his face. Watching Mike Love ham it up as de facto bandleader (seriously, man, the cheese-ball pointing and hand flourishes are straight outta Branson), while the man often credited with making the Beach Boys as impactful as they were relegated to the role of sideman injected a fascinating tension into the proceedings.

Not that anyone in the nearly sold-out room was interested in the band's legendarily frictive dynamics. The theatre was packed with baby boomers, with a sprinkling of young families, intent on reliving the glory days, shouting along and standing up for the tracks they knew (Surfin' Safari, Do It Again and Don't Worry Baby got 'em going) and sitting back down for the more contemplative cuts. Love kept up his irritating schtick for the duration of the performance, even as Brian Wilson took on more of a central role in the second half of the show, performing knock-out renditions of Wouldn't It Be Nice, Sloop John B and Heroes and Villains.

The close, sun-dappled harmonies still seemed to be there (In My Room was immaculate), the gleaming arrangements were faithfully rendered and, although I have no empirical evidence to support this, I got the sneaking suspicion many of those extra bodies on stage were to help the Beach Boys achieve vocal heights that haven't been hit since the days of LBJ. The new single, That's Why God Made the Radio, ahead of the "reunion" album due out in June, fits snugly within the back catalog, but is otherwise unmemorable.

Was it fun? Sure, in a trip-down-memory-lane kind of way and, whatever the motivations, the songs hold up like the classics they are. But having grown up not with the Beach Boys as a band in heavy rotation (I came age during the Kokomo era, after all), and instead, a group already revered for its contributions to the pop canon, seeing the men themselves appear so indifferent to the breadth of their accomplishments was a little jarring. I didn't need a buttoned-down "evening with" experience, but at the same time, this concert marking the 50th anniversary felt more cynical than celebratory. Talk about a wipe-out.

Sorry if this has been discussed already, but I wonder if Brian is having moments of deja vu at these shows.  For one, it's been a long time since he's played with Mike and Bruce, and B) it's been a really long time since he's sat at the grand white piano at the end of the stage -since the early 80's, where he basically sang a few leads, played a bit of piano, and added a little background harmony here and there (all that is missing from the set are the ash tray and coffee cups).  Does this take him back to a bad place in some ways (that view and setting with those songs and familiar faces)? From the limited pics and vids I've seen so far, he doesn't appear very happy (granted its early and I have seen him many times solo and its been a mixed bag).

Anyhow, I really hope he is truly enjoying himself up there (as much as Brian could).  I look forward to seeing them on June 1.

Think the guy suffers from the same as what a lot of us do, myself included.

He wants the BBs to go on-stage in tuxedos and perform Bach, Beethoven, The Trader and other deep stuff what they wrote*.

Their legacy, in the eyes of the world, is surf, beach, fun, and it's damn great music however it's wrapped up.

Remember the SMiLE debut at the RFH, and the fans who turned out in DJs and evening gowns? That was appropriate for that night but it seems to be what the reviewer wanted last night.  But it ain't appropriate for the context of this reunion.  They're celebrating their public image legacy, not laying claim to the solemn stuff.

Once the reunion fuss has died down maybe they could go out, play smaller halls and give us solemn, deep, wool shirts, beards and Long Promised Sail On Cabinessences.  'T'ain't gonna happen, sadly for us.

This guy needs to accept the fact, move on, and have fun fun fun while it lasts.

*Eric & Ernie pun intended.

because his guitar lick sounds more like the record than Brian's shows usually do.  Maybe he's got a little nuance that others do slightly different?

Interesting observation, another reason why it is great to have him on stage. He and Carl learned guitar from the same teacher, apparently, and were part of the same scene, surrounded by the same music at the same time. It's like playing classic soul music with musicians from California or the UK then playing the same songs with musicians from Memphis - the feel and the groove is just flowing naturally in their blood because they learned within that style versus copying it.

Great to see David there, great to hear that he's taking leads and playing authentic 60's California surf guitar, and great to see FENDER GUITARS on stage!

At his own shows, hadn't Brian grown visibly bored with the old hits, typically stepping up his game and enthusiasm whenever performing songs from whatever current projects (TLOS, BWRG) he was touring at the time?  He's probably sick to death of most of these songs.  Any back pain he's suffering probably just adds to his"OK, I said I'd do this, and if I don't I'll catch hell from the promoter, so I gotta get through it" attitude.  Plus who knows if there really is conflict going on behind the scenes.  Still, it would be nice if he looked like he was enjoying himself.

Interesting, Mikie D is playing left-handed bass.

He probably nicked it off Macca at the Grammys!!  ;D

Ah yes, I had to brighten it up a bit to spot this on my monitor, I was watching the clip but not seeing the back row of players!

Just curious, is this something new for him to be playing bass lefty, or is it the kind of bass he's using that stood out?

[...] Brian Wilson took on more of a central role in the second half of the show, performing knock-out renditions of Wouldn't It Be Nice, Sloop John B and Heroes and Villains.
Yeeaah.  :3d

Anyway.. what is being criticised exactly? I don't really get it. Seems like the review of somebody who attended a cool BBs show, but isn't really into their music anyway. Nothing negative is said about the musical quality. Not much at all is said about the music itself. Not that good a review, sorry.

What's even better?  If you check out the video of 409, he made sure to put his "Shot by..." tag on the bottom of it, like that shitty recording is something to be proud of.

If his penmanship is anything like his camera work, I'd say the guy's a pretty shitty reporter.

As far as the set list goes and their more distinguished shows versus the hits, I think that at some venues (such as the Saratoga Springs concert at the Performing Arts Center that I am attending  ;D) some deep tracks will be performed. Some of these smaller, artsy venues will definitely have a different set list than a lot of the traditional shows.

I'd like to think that they have a completely different set catered for the theatre shows than they do for the big outdoor shows but  as we've seen that doesn't seem to be the case.

Watching those videos, I'm really excited to see members of both Brian's and Mike and Bruce's bands there. I remember that--when debating the idea of a BB reunion-- people on SS would talk about how the band would be configured. It's kind of amazing to me that the factions were able to agree on which band members from each group to include, not to mention the setlist and who would sing which part. I love that Brian has his band members there for support.

It's 3:16 PM, and I just noticed something...

Our Brian is again playing a prosthetic piano.  First thing I noticed was that the contraption for the pedals is absent.  In the latest GV video, you can see that there is a black electronic keyboard dropped into the part of the grand where the keys should be.  The piano itself looks a bit small to be real, but Brian is so damn big that it's probably just a regular grand piano case (frame, strings, keys removed). And it's closed, so you can't see what's gone.

I say bring back the ashtray, and give BW an electronic cigarette and a Coke for that big white tabletop.

So.. he's not actually playing a white grand, but the keyboard? Like we're used to? I'm okay with that, and actually, it's kinda funny.
Anything that makes him feel comfortable on stage.. I'm sure he would love to have a white baby elephant to hide behind, but Mike wouldn't have it. Brian should play the keys once in awhile. So they gave him that "piano": it's white baby elephant and keyboard in one.

I would have absolutely assumed that the "white grand piano" was actually just a stylish frame for his usual electronic keyboard and lyric screen, rather than being a literal acoustic piano.  Shouldn't be a surprise.

It's a usual thing today to have an electronic keyboard inside of a grand piano body. It just looks better. Many, if not most acts do that nowadays

Honestly don't hear anything unnatural in Brian's voice at the 2nd gig.

Could be that the so-called "live autotune" in Tucson was a safety net for the official taping, and not something planned for all of the reunion gigs. And why should it be, Brian's been in good (and sometimes fine) vocal form these past few years.

From the comments on http://blogs.dallasobserver.com/dc9/2012/04/the_beach_boys_-_verizon_theat.php

--------

Fred Vail 1 hour ago

I've read three reviews of the 50th Celebration--all are pretty much glowing. All have mentioned Brian, Mike, Al, Bruce and David. At least two have highlighted the band, including Jeffrey Foskett's key role on lead or background vocals. I look forward to seeing my old friends somewhere on the road this summer. Wish I had seen the kickoff in Tucson but this Verizon show sound equally successful.
I am truly blessed to have been a friend and associate of The Beach Boys for 49 of their 50 years. I promoted the very first show that featured them as 'headliners' in a large concert venue--the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium, May 24, 1963. I was invited to join their organization shortly after that show. I was 19. I am honored to have been with them when they wrote--and recorded--many of their classics, including "Fun, Fun, Fun," "Warmth of the Sun," "When I Grow Up To Be A Man," "Good Vibrations," and more than a few others. I have visited with all of them in the past few years--all three bands--Mike and Bruce, Al (along with Dean Torrence), and BW's band, featuring members of "The Wondermints."
I am so pleased that 'the boys' paid tribute to their fallen bandmates, Denny and Carl--my brothers-in-spirit for the majority of their lives. I miss them each and every day and it must have been an emoitonal moment to see pictures of DW and CW--along with their lead vocals--at the surviving BB's added their magical harmonies. The only thing that might have made it an even better evening--short of DW and CW being with us--would have been to include Dennis' son, Carl, and Carl's son, Justyn, on stage filling in for their Dads on drums and guitar!
I love that they included a few of the more obscure songs--"All This Is That" and "You're So Good To Me." I wish they'd included "Add Some Music To Your Day." It's message is as vibrant now, as when it was released in 1970 on their often overlooked album, "Sunflower." I know that this tour will bring a whole new generation to appreciate the 'boys of summer,' my friends from Hawthorne, California, the fabulous Beach Boys.

Old people only stand for encores. We will yell at you to sit the fu*k down if you insist on standing for the whole freaking show. ;) Go For It!

My general rule is that if you dont' want me standing, then you make the person in front of me sit down.  Although I might have to suspend that rule from the comfort of the first row.  Hope you're not behind me, Doc!
Rock & Roll is meant to sing and dance to, not to sit like a bump on a log. I'm 54, but not too old to ROCK!

And Bruce before the instrumental break at the end! Perfect song for the original voices.

Some people use the same logic to mosh/punch others/smoke/whatever during a show. Standing up during a seated show when there are people sitting directly behind you is pretty rude.

Of course you have to be aware of your surroundings when standing, but some people who can stand, refuse to stand even if the moment calls for it. That was the one nice thing about Dance Floor seating back in the day, as it was an area where you could do those kinds of things without pissing people off.

Exactly! If you go to a rock & roll show, you better be prepared to stand or be blocked out at some point if you don't. I've been to many Beach Boys shows, and when they hit the home stretch just about everyone is standing until the show is over. Like most things, people need to know their surroundings, show some common courtesy and use some common sense.

concerts where everyone is singing their lungs out and dancing having fun are the best concerts.  I HAAATE that i may have to deal with people wanting to sit down during the show.  i'm standing the whole freaking time.

Here here! It's a freaking rock and roll concert. And I'm going to be in the front row so.... suck it, sitters!

The "brain power" comment isn't necessary. Some of us, believe it or not, don't read EVERY SINGLE ENTRY on the board, and so may have missed this change in direction on the PM thing.

I now have the "brain power" you require, having stumbled onto your warning by accident. I withdraw any suggestions involving the letters P and M.

OK, I just re-checked the rules posting, which is BTW from 2005:
3) Talking about bootlegs is fine. Posting messages asking for bootlegs or offering bootlegs is not fine. That's what private messages and emails are for. The same of course applies to official recordings.

"That's what private messages and emails are for." So: PMs are OK...or not?

OK: perhaps a clearer interpretation of rule 3 is--make those sort of requests directly through PM's or email, but do not solicit requests on the open forum.

I'm not an attorney, but the wording of this sounds a little vague and open to interpretation. Maybe the 8-year-old rules need to be re-written for clarity so we don't foda up and then get chastised for it.

Fair enough?

What a great show this was! So enjoyable!  Highlights for me:
- Then I Kissed Her, Cottonfields, HelDo I really wanna get banned?e Rhonda: that's how they should sound!. Welcome back Al!
- Why Do Fools.. : I don't care for the song but now it sounds even better than Mike&Bruce's.  Amazing harmonies.  And ScottT's falsetto is so refreshing after so much Jeff.
- Disney Girls: magnificent. Wish Bruce would sing more than just this one and Wendy
- Little Honda / Car songs: never so fast and powerful
- All This Is That: great to hear Brian and Darian on this one. However Jeff/Scott do the wailing at the end

Mike sounds a bit thin and his voice gets a bit lost under all the harmonies. Should be a bit louder in the mix.
David rocks out the early solos.
Al's voice really makes the difference in the blend. What a voice.. he's everywhere.
Al's + Bruce's voice really make the sound more authentic.  This is really the Beach Boys!
Brian.. ah.. Brian..

Unfortunately I have to say that it does sound like Brian is autotuned or at least some kind of voice processing is in place in some songs (Surfer Girl, You're So Good To Me, H&V (nananana), In My Room, SoS, GoodVibes most notably)..  this time is way too clear not to notice..  :(

You know what I mean.  It's not about being full of himself, more like being lazy.
But maybe it's a fresh song for him so he's more interested than the hits.
In case you missed the info, he's been reported to not really sing vocals on most songs.

Brian seems to do want he feels like, but the way you phrased your sentence made it read different than what you meant. If Brian is like the rest of us, he may just like the tune. It is one of the best songs they did that he did not have a hand in.

First link to what looks like pretty much like the whole concert over 8 parts. Good sound and video IMO.

Quick tidbit:

I was actually at this show. Parking was a nightmare... $15.00 dollars for normal parking and $20.00 for VIP... as if the tickets weren't already expensive enough.
Anyway, after the show let out, my freind and I decided to wade out the traffic and sat on my car watching all the fans drive by. Eventually, we had striken up a long conversation with another concert-goer (Beach Boys fans are quite approachable, huh?) and out of the blue, a woman appearing to be in her mid to late 60s comes running up to us to let her know that it was HER green bra that had been thrown up on stage that night. Judging by the way her shirt was fitting her, I took her word as truth.

Al's reaction to the bra was quite priceless; somehow both amused and disgusted.
