Title: Mysterious Brian Song ?
Post by: MrRobinsonsFather on April 16, 2012, 09:11:45 PM
I was just watching the Brian Wilson Bio and noticed this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7PjuaM4mR8&feature=player_detailpage#t=539s (at 9:00)
Listen to the song being played in the background
Anyone know anything about this song? Sounds so beautiful!

That thread proves NOTHING. It is Brian 100%, my ears are perfect.

I'm not arguing whether Brian is singing on the recording in question. It sounds like him to me, too.

I'm pointing out that the song (Little Child, a.k.a., Daddy Dear) is not written by Brian. That's what the thread is about.

Here's a recording from 1955: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQ2ttxX1BoY

Brian would not, in 1972, say "gosh darned": he'd use something beginning with f and ending with -ucking. Only one person in the band - and quite possibly the world - says "gosh darned" like that, and his name is Alan Charles Jardine.

So did "Honkin Down The Fu-king Highway" get changed by Al? :lol

Didn't someone here say that Al confirmed it was him?

Yeah, and I said I agree with Andrew 99.99% of the time, but not on this. I think I am right, like the "Brian sings lead" vocal on the Pet Sounds box aint Brian (not that Andrew says it is).

My mysterious Brian Song question has never been pointed out (at least I don't remember anyone posting about it. It's on the same A&E Bio, it's about the "hamburger sessions" and it has video footage of what seems to be an early 80s Brian that's really out there, sounds like he's playing the same chords, I've never heard it except on this doc, where's the footage from?

Just sounds like he's messing around here, (probably?) not a song. Someone just happened to video tape it. Cool find though.

I have to say I'm also convinced the Little Child snippet is Brian. There's a certain humour in the speed and timing of the delivery that sounds 100% Brian. Doesn't the piece then move into Honking or Susie Cincinatti or somethin? I think that's probably Al.

I used to swear up and down that it was Brian, even when Andrew stated otherwise. I re-listened to it a few months back and am now pretty certain it's Al. I was kind of taken aback given I insisted it was Brian prior, so I listened to it several more times and was only further convinced it was Al.

Oh wait, excuse me.

*ahem*

YOU CAN'T PROVE ANYTHING. IT IS 107% AL MY EARS ARE FUCKING FLAWLESS YOU IGNORANT DOTARD.

If Al Jardine says it's Al Jardine singing, how can we argue with that?!

because it was recorded nearly 40 years ago, and nobody's memory is completely reliable.

while Brian and Al have deceptively similar singing voices, their speaking voices are not very alike. also Al's falsetto is not as full as Brian's and the falsetto is very strong on Daddy Dear/Little Child.

he says "sh!t" a few seconds in, and he says he "forgot the darn song" not "gosh-darned". he also sounds a little jacked up on something, which would disqualify Al immediately. it's Brian.

I'm pretty sure that somebody here confirmed that it was Brian, and everybody agreed

True, but you'd think someone could recognize their own voice, esp. someone who is/was a clean liver.

I have not heard said piece of music for some time, perhaps if I was to listen again I could be enlightened.

In my honest opinion and after many thorough listens I have concluded that it doesn't sound a bit like Fred Vail.
