Some pretty good questions here.

Can only imagine people are going to start panicking over this little comment:

"Jardine: There aren’t any rules at this point. It’s like we picked up where we left off, Brian and Mike are writing some great tunes together, we have an executive producer who is pulling the loose ends together. I have a couple of songs that may appear on the album, Bruce Johnson has written a beautiful song. We are all being very democratic about it. Even David Marks is back on board [he replaced Jardine for a brief time in the early history of the band], if they don’t complete this album I’m going to do a couple things with him."

Okay, I get it now. If his songs don't make it to the album...man, I'm tired.

I think Phil has been handing some cash to Al under the table for that ... it's too perfect, really.

I think he meant  "I'm going to do some songs with David, if they say the album isn't full yet".

Al once again proved himself to be a real class act with the way he handled the question about Murry, too.

Agreed, but I'd have to go back to look at other interviews; my recollection is that he has discussed that topic in past interviews.

It will interesting to see how PR-conscious the band continues to be as this project moves along, both in general terms and as it relates to inner-band politics. Obviously, we’re not seeing some of the contentious comments we’ve seen in the past decade or so about some of the legal stuff and whatnot. Hopefully at least some of the avoidance of negative stuff from the past is actually due to them moving on and getting past it.

They seem to be all reasonably PR-conscious, which is probably a good thing at this moment in time to make sure we see an album and tour actually happen.

You know, I'm sure this is right. Good call, Ron.

You know, is it too much to ask for a media member with the ability to ask a clarifying question? He couldn't have thought to ask Al, "what do you mean by that utterly confusing response?" Why do they continue to force readers into this ridiculous and unnecessary exercise of having to decipher what their interviewees  MEANT to say?!? I mean, this journalist read that copy and concluded there was no problem with Al's answer and it was ok to print as is? Really?

It made complete sense to me the first time I read it.

The statement, as printed, is kind of confusing and ambiguous. But the reason we didn’t see a follow-up question (assuming there wasn’t one that simply wasn’t printed) is probably because the interviewer isn’t nearly as concerned with when the new album is coming out (or if it’s coming out at all) as we are as fans.

Assuming Al isn’t calling into question whether the album is coming out at all (which, all conspiracy theories aside, I think is a fair assumption), he has to be referring to something else. My best guess is that he means that if “they”, meaning the songs they’re all working on, don’t make the final cut on the album (as in the songs “completing” the album), he’ll work on those songs with Dave.

It’s also just as likely that this is a typo or slight misquote. The article also uses the name “Bruce Johnson”, and I’m sure Al didn’t say that.

Yes, I understand all of this and agree. Some people are bothered by Jeff Foskett.  I am bothered by what I perceive to be lazy journalism.  It's a personal thing.
