Title: Just dandy...
Post by: Andrew G. Doe on April 05, 2012, 11:03:58 PM
Can't buy the new expanded physical version of Postcard from amazon.com, and nor can I buy the 15-track download from the UK. Nice, amazon - love you too.  >:(

Why not? It seems that it'll let me. Did you try to order from the UKor US? You could try a US import.

Ordered from amazon uk back on September 1. Well, you might have seen the thread ...  have considered re-ordering from .com  though as there's  no sign yet of the order being fulfilled. Uk price has virtually tripled in the time since I ordered.

Bought the Waves of Love bonus from iTunes as I was too impatient to wait. That worked, at least.

At the moment, the words "Big Sur", "Shambles" and "A Shame" are on the tip of my tongue...

Doesn't make sense :\ I'm gonna guess it's either MP3 or m4a format?

How well versed are you in digital audio? Did you download the .flac version? Those files won't function on a lot of media players.

I bought it last night of iTunes (uk) and the track "Drivin" skips to the next track after 45 seconds - with approx 2:30 of the track left to play :-(

Have emailed iTunes to report the problem.

Well I'm not allowed to download from Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.de and the album is not even on Amazon.it.
Beside iTunes, does anyone know any European/unrestricted site where Waves of Love can be downloaded?

Since it seems the cd won't be arriving any time soon..

Thanks!

You can buy the download version from Spotify and the CD from WOWHD.

I downloaded a .flac file once, and it just about killed my computer - I won't be using that format again, ever. The big problem was the files seemed to have an .amz extension, and nothing would play it. Amazon have refunded my dosh, but that's not the point - I wanted the album.

Apparently the .amz file is to be opened with their Music Downloader. http://www.amazon.com/gp/dmusic/help/amd.html

It's pretty lame that they won't just allow you to download the mp3s without jumping through hoops, but I guess they have their reasons...

.amz? Good lawd, that's goofy.

FLAC isn't too hard to handle at all. Not sure what program you're using, but in most cases it's just a matter of downloading an easily found plugin and dropping it in a particular folder. Give it a try some other time if you have the patience.

If yer using iTunes, well. God have mercy on your soul (and RAM) :'(

Someone here sent me a .flac file, told me it was the best and easiest way. I followed their instructions to the letter, downloaded the player, and my computer pretty much stopped working on the spot, and it took three days to get to working properly again. In the words of a very wise man, well f*** that, thank you. Turns out the player had a codec in it that my OS didn't like. Never again.

Newbury Comics.  :) I had to correct it, they got a lot of my money in Boston when I was younger.

If they're still available, presuming it's the signed booklet you want, we can order a bunch of them and I'll send them to you. (You're paying all the charges, of course.)

I can't understand how a .flac file screws up a computer. It's superior to Mp3's and is one of the best, if not the best, lossless formats available. When downloading, I've always preferred it over any other compressed file, and I've run it with Windows XP Sp3, Vista, and Windows 7. I currently play the .flac files with VLC Player and have had zero problems with it.

Maybe the file you had contained a virus, Andrew, or it somewhow conflicted with a system file. Can't think of any other reason it would have been a showstopper for your computer.

Maybe the download was interrupted, and the player software took exception to a partial file?

From what Andrew wrote, it sounds like the player and/or codec associated with it he downloaded to play the FLAC file was the problem, not the actual FLAC file. I've also had conflicts with RealPlayer when it tries to take over more applications than I wanted it to do, so eventually I uninstalled it. Too many of these applications when they're updated or upgraded after they're installed can cause conflicts with existing programs or players.

What was the player application that was recommended to play the flac? Just so we know to avoid a similar issue in the future. :)

Yes it was the signed booklet I wanted but now they are sold out..   Thanks anyway!

Regional restrictions... it feels like it's the 90's again.

Oh well, sorry bout that...
I think that when he posted the info on the British Board, Mr. Iotis offered to do the legwork on getting copies for people that couldn't.
Altho this  may not happen often, or again, I suggest that people that want these and can't get them, publicly ask for help. It's just one big community; aren't we all friends?

Can't remember, 'cause I kicked that ****** out as fast as I could. I work on a very simple principal - I have a bad experience with something, doesn't matter how many people tell me it's the best thing since sliced bread and to try again because I was unlucky: I will never use said item again. Whatever the problem was, it stopped my computer in its tracks, and I'm not going to chance that happening again.

Use Winamp. Plain and simple. Works with FLAC and APE but requires a plug-in for SHN. But basically everybody uses FLAC these days.

Flac's only practical if you've got the hard drive space. That, and my ears really can't tell the difference between the 30mb flac file and the 7 or 8mb 320kbps mp3.

Same here. I never got too deep into the lossless stuff because a lot of the material wasn't the kind you'd have a master-quality source for anyway. The files were too large.

Definitely. I think it's a big hassle to have constant updates, new versions, new codecs/players, etc. being sent out or required because some of those updated versions have messed my system up as well, through no fault of my own.

I still can't fully install or use iTunes from my PC, and oddly enough I spoke to another person a few days ago with the exact same issues. I don't miss it, and don't need it. :)

Bizarre - never heard of something like that happening, especially with any audio files, FLAC or otherwise. Fair 'nough, though.

Amazon UK is now showing a 2/3 increase on the price of the cd from when they were originally taking orders.
I placed my order weeks ago at the original price, Amazon have confirmed I will pay the lower cost but I'm not
sure if I'll get the original cd or the release with the bonus tracks.
