The thread title is pretty self-explanatory, right? What drugs do you find "work best" with what albums and why!

It might be an obvious one but do I ever love Surf's Up and weed! I think this album is at just the right moment in their careers (http://i.imgur.com/K03J7.png) where you could see them wanting to make trippy pop music. Almost all of the song's backing tracks have a hell of a lot going on in them, especially "Don't Go Near the Water", and the absurdly complex vocal shifting from member-to-member sometimes even within a line is so intense! ("Tree" and "Til I Die" are downers but... goshdarn, they are fucking powerful and gracefully done!)

Love You has some pretty sweet sounds to hear when you're baked. Also Holland.

I want to eat mushrooms and listen to Smiley Smile at my favorite beach, but none of my friends think it's a good idea.

Carl & The Passions, when you're high, morphs from a mostly-forgettable album to one that contains some of their grooviest and I dare say funkiest stuff! Well, not Dennis's contributions here, way too overproduced. "Here She Comes" is great!

Surf's Up and Holland pretty well cut the mustard amongst our small collection of stoners and trippers. Throw in The Guess Who and Allman Brothers from that era and you had yourself some mighty fine sounding entertainment to get by on. Over and over again until graduation split us apart. We were tight during that time though and The Beach Boys were a major surprise to my newly turned on friends. At first they thought I was crazy. Then came Surf's Up.

TSS. I don't use cocaine but I have a feeling Love You would be a great soundtrack for that.

I haven't used acid in many years (pre-dating my experience of really discovering the BB) but I have tripped and watched the Monkees movie HEAD countless times.

For me, personally, I started listening to The Beach Boys very shortly after I started smoking weed in early 2009. I listened to Pet Sounds high and it instantly became practically the soundtrack to my life. That was one of the very first albums in general that I can remember weed having a tremendous effect on the overall listening experience.

Truth be told, I've dabbled in a LOT of dxm products and have had MANY a trip. Smiley Smile, Holland, and Surf's Up were some REALLY good listens. Friends is really good for that, too.

I did DMT once and listened to Good Vibrations and could have swore I saw an image of a stencil-like outline of Brian Wilson's PS-era face pop out of the crud at the bottom of the toilet bowl.

But whatever your drug and whatever your album, you've GOTTA listen on vinyl. It's out of this world.


On an unrelated note, Steely Dan's 'Aja' is worth a listen on vinyl when you're stoned out of your mind.

I find a lot of BB albums are like this when you're stoned.

Though... I'm still waiting on Summer In Paradise to turn good.

I'll start off by saying I've loved and had a deep connection with every Beach Boys album sober.

Having said that, I've been entranced by all of them while baked, being that I smoked weed heavily when I first got into the band. Pet Sounds, Friends, and Sunflower were my major getting-high albums.

Love You, interestingly enough, is the album I've most consistently enjoyed regardless of my state of mind.

One of the most outstanding moments I can recall is when I took some Vicodin and played "Only With You" several times.  Right place at the right time, I guess.

I really wish I could still take drugs.

I hear that SMiLe, Surf's Upand BWRG are amazing on LSD. Pot goes well with all of the albums, especially Smiley Smile, Pet Sounds, Holland, and Sunlower. All of this is according to my friend who does drugs. I don't use any recreational drugs, although I do sometimes hold my breath until I become very dizzy.

Listening to The Beach Boys clean and sober is great too.

I have heard all the LP's straight and they really can be judged and enjoyed fine that way. A little smoke could very well spice up the 1966-72 recordings a bit though......so I'm told. I admit nothing  :police: lol.

I haven't tried it but Steamboat through The trader should be perfect with weed.

I don't smoke weed (out of the inability to get any rather than choice....) but I may say that Love You is a great album to have on the headphones when you are near blackout drunk. And as I have attested to on this very board, Country Love and Summer In Paradise are decidedly not.  :lol

I am curious about your DMT experience. A friend of mine brought me a little bit over last night to be smoked. I have never tried it before and his description of the effects kind of scared me. I locked it up in my lock box and I'm going to save it until I know more about it. I've tried various hallucinogens in the past and never had a "bad trip" or anything but I hear that DMT is so much more intense than the others. Anybody else hear ever try it?

Dude...on headphones...those harmonies just send you straight outta this world.

The title track blows me away every time. The production on that album is really stellar, I didn't realize it until I was under the influence.

I remember listening to Pet Sounds as I was coming down from my second ever mushroom trip and it was a magical experience, I felt like I was going to explode with joy during Wouldn't It Be Nice especially the 2nd bridge part where the accordians do the triple bellow shake. Another time on shrooms I couldn't decide what to listen to so put on disc one from the GV boxset, Their Hearts... sounded so very, very weird!

Anyone volunteer to waste a bowl on SIP and report back?

Everyone I've talked to has made it out to be the scariest thing ever, but it wasn't really like that for me. It's very stringy almost and burns really fast. I threw it on top of a bowl and took a very monster like rip and I think the rip took more of a toll on me than the actual DMT. I felt kind of sick, but really really high as well. I don't think it worked it's full potential on me. But it was kind of weird, I guess lol.

From what I hear -- though I might be thinking more of salvia perhaps -- it's a total waste to throw it on top of some weed because DMT doesn't work anywhere near as well by combustion, rather you should vape it to get the most out of the stuff.

If I ever do it again (for it is extremely hard to come by in my neck of the woods), I'll keep that in mind lol.

Oh, also, I should say I've only had one really bad trip, like, ever... So I think we're in the same boat tolerance wise... Maybe. I think you should be able to handle it. But just to be sure, set yourself up beforehand with some of your favorite music, maybe a favorite movie or show, do it in a comfortable environment, have a glass of water on hand, etc. But you may already know those tips lol. Also, take the hit sitting down. In a comfy chair.

Mate, it's weird. Some people can just get it like THAT, but it's all who you know, I suppose. For some reason I never get invited to do drugs with people, guess I don't look like the type  ::)

Well, DMT is supposed to be somewhat similar to salvia, which I have smoked. And let me tell you, it's frightening in the sense that you'd expect going from feeling normal to feeling like you're in another dimension in about 30 seconds would be. Literally, it's like going from 0 to 60 in a millisecond, from drinking a cup of tea to being at the peak of Syd Barrett level dose of acid with a blink of an eye.

It's unbelievable, and bowled me over with its power. It's hard to doubt something that strong. So when an elf tells you that reality is a joke - a sitcom, if you will - you have hard time not believing it until maybe an hour after the high wears off.

DMT and salvia. It's funky pretty.

I guess I'm looking for the right time to try it (like when my wife isn't home). To keep it on-topic I'll play some Beach Boys in the background. All I have is a bowl so I will hope to get the best out of it.

I remember when the Pet Sounds cd came out in 1990, my friends, who were most definitely not into the Beach Boys, and I listened to it while tripping and it sounded absolutely earth shatteringly mind blowing. One friend kept repeating this is 3D music man 3D music, and it was! Another was convinced that Brian Wilson had made the album specifically to be listened to on acid. We all pissed ourselves with laughter when the boys sang "this is the worst trip I've ever been on. The same day we listened to BW88 and it was pretty good, especially Rio Grande but the synths just didn't have the same vibe as the organic sounding Pet Sounds. That was one fine afternoon I can tell you!

I say anything up until 1978 is amazing for SMoKE sessions. But "Love You", "Sunflower" and "Summer Days and Summer Nights"  seem to hit a nerve with me when I'm stoned.

And "Friends"!

The Friends album just screams to me "listen to me while tripping out on acid!" Hearing Anna Lee the Healer and Friends (the song) would be quite the experience.

f*** friends is the best album ever, drugs, no drugs required, it fucking blows my tits off ewvery time. Phew that is the best album ever made! (btw give it a listen on acid, holy sheeit!)

Anna Lee is a really weird song. It has the minimalism of Smiley Smile while somehow sounding more highly produced than it actually is. I don't really know how to describe it properly, but it always came off as a very impressive adaptation of Brian's production method.

LSA last night with a couple of friends.
We listened to SMiLE, which sounded incredible - then, I laid down by myself and put Pet Sounds (stereo SACD version) on with some headphones - I didn't think that album could possibly get any better!

LSA? I tried that one time and nothing happened. Now LSD....
