Title: Lost Concert video, 1964

Hey all, new to the forum though I've been lurking for a couple weeks.

Is it safe to assume that this is the absolute best Beach Boys video you can find on the net? Look at Brian go during Hawaii and Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow! I've never seen any other video with him this energetic and on-target. Not to mention Mike at his geekiest, Dennis beating his set silly, and young Carl and Al keeping the wheels turning quick. What makes it beautiful is how it's one of those few early videos I've seen where they're not miming with unplugged guitars or just playing karaoke, it's 100% live, warts and all.

Anyone know of any clips around similar to this one, besides the early Surfin' Safari video, the Dance Dance Dance clip or the Help Me, Rhonda TV appearance?

The "lost concert" really is a treasure. Although they are tame compared to other appearances from that time. The songs not only sound fresh (as they do today) they are fresh and you can just imagine how new it all must've been.

Many TV appearances were at least partially pre-recorded Check out the T.A.M.I. footage for another live performance

It's notable also because it's a fairly intimate setting, is recorded well and doesn't contain a lot of girl screaming during the songs.

Mike Douglas, Merv Griffin, David Frost, Andy Williams and Red Skeleton shows.

And that other real early one on a local TV show in L.A. Can't think of it off the top. Has "Summer" in the title I think.

Really like the Lost Concert and Steve Allen footage, in addition to Ed Sullivan.  Hell, I like 'em all.

Be aware that more than one song was played for many of these shows.

Not all of these performances were 100% live

The T.A.M.I. Show footage of the Beach Boys is the absolute best there is from 1964. They are a better band than on Lost Concert (which was filmed 7 months earlier than TAMI) because they've been touring their asses off all year, and even though they can't hear themselves they are pretty tight and very energetic. While Lost Concert is great because its a fantastic window into the moment, there are remnants of a self-concious stage presence that is entirely gone by TAMI. By then they are just rock and roll pros driving the audience wild.

The Things We Said Last Summer?  That's absolutely beautiful, a taste of harmonies to come. Think of a, what, 20 or 21 year old Brian arranging that and successfully teaching it to four other young guys?

I'd like to see the "Lost" concert as part of a live-DVD. Do you think there's any chance we'll see the whole show with "Monster mash" any time ?
I also would like to see the It's Ok-special remastered and remixed with lots of bonus footage. They could include he whole concert of which some performances appear in the special. And all the outtakes of the boys around the piano with Brian

I'd rather see a DVD of the Holland/In Concert-era Beach Boys live.  Probably won't ever happen but that would be amazing.

I love Dance Dance Dance on the TAMI show, totally cooks.

TAMI Show is the best example to give when proving Dennis was an awesome drummer.

A live video of anything '71-'73 would be near my top of things I'd love to watch as it's really where the band peaked as a live act and where they were playing killer setlists to boot, that being said, I'd be most partial to see that '77 footage of the boys rehearsing Love You cuts sans the French reporter yabbering all over it.

Any sixties and seventies footage is worth seeing. Sure the 1977-79 footage is somewhat painful but it's a part of their history.

Oh sure, me too. But I don't know about any concerts being filmed. Maybe they could release some of the TV-appearances/specials like "Good vibrations in Central Park", etc.

But the Lost Concert is absolutely great and since it was never available with "Monster mash" being back in I'd really love to have that. And same goes for the It's OK special. There's some beautiful footage but it definitely needs remastering, etc

The OK special is available on DVD unde the name "The Good Vibrations Tour".

Lost Concert has the lead guitar way too low.

Is there footage of "What'd I Say"? They never rocked harder that on that one!

Yeah, that would be incredible, and worth exposing more fans to that seemingly forgotten era by most rock'n'roll writers and fans.

Yes, I know. But it needs remixing and remastering imo. There are some short clips in "Endless harmony" from the It's OK-special that look a hundred times of what the Good Vibrations Tour DVD does.

True, but that seems to have been a problem the Beach Boys often had in the early years. There's probably nothing you can do about when you work on the footage as I don't believe they have the multitracks.

Never heard of a What'd I Say video.

Yes, there are some performances from the early 70s that were filmed. I hope we'll get more of that someday.
I once started a thread here in which I planned to bring together all professional filmed concerts but somehow it never worked out. I could bring it up again if you want. Maybe we can finally fill it up

Yeah! That's true! I'd imagine there's film flying around somewhere.

This! I think that would be fantastic, as long as people contributed.

BTW just for fun I made a screenshot of a short scene from "Monster mash". You can see the scene in the trailer on the following site at 2:52

Brian's vocals on Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow are freakin' brilliant. Back then Brian could half-ass a performance and still sound good. These days, well...
