Title: New Van Dyke Parks interview Post by: rab2591 on March 21, 2012, 02:41:46 PM Just posted on Facebook. Nothing new, but he really, humbly, delves into his musical life, and his past. It's a wonderful interview.

It's an amazing thing, in fact, because it's a very peculiar piece of Americana. It was truly the first interactive or bootlegged album. It became highly interactive, and also became the thesis of one novel. It was a joy, though, to be able to bring that piece of pop-art to the ear." On Skrillex: "Then, I YouTube'd him and found a video of him spilling beer on his laptop onstage in front of thousands of people and I thought, "What is going on?"" ;D Title: Re: New Van Dyke Parks interview Post by: SMiLE Brian on March 21, 2012, 02:47:08 PM Van Dyke watching dubstep concerts on youtube. :lol

I am DYING to see what he came up with. In that LA Times article from October (I think) VDPs said it was some of the best work he's ever done (speaking of the Skillex collaboration). Title: Re: New Van Dyke Parks interview Post by: hypehat on March 22, 2012, 08:00:00 PM God, I love Van Dyke Parks. He is the best.
Also, I love how the interviewer calls him 'sir' during. I called him 'sir' when I met him briefly, I think he commands southern gentility? How does someone in the 21st century even do that?! ;D Title: Re: New Van Dyke Parks interview Post by: endofposts on March 23, 2012, 11:46:18 PM He was tersely tactful about the Beach Boys reunion. Does he really not have a television set? Hm.
Title: Re: New Van Dyke Parks interview Post by: the captain on March 25, 2012, 11:42:06 AM I know a lot of people--well, several people--without televisions. World keeps turning.
Anyway, I'm excited to say that VDP is scheduled to play here in a little over a week. I'm thrilled. Anyone seen him in the past few weeks/months: is he absolutely solo, or are Clare and the Reasons serving as his backing band? Title: Re: New Van Dyke Parks interview Post by: hypehat on March 25, 2012, 03:27:45 PM It's really just The Reasons - Claire came on for a couple of numbers when I saw him last year.
He also didn't wear shoes. ;D Title: Re: New Van Dyke Parks interview Post by: the captain on March 25, 2012, 08:00:56 PM He said he's got a trio. So that'll be cool.

He also didn't wear shoes. ;D Did he wear denim overalls? He did when I saw him. I guess he goes for that bucolic sophisticate image.
