Title: Re: The flaming lips: working on a beach boys cover Post by: Lowbacca on March 18, 2012, 02:41:40 PM Yeah I'm a Lips fan. They're doing GOK, obviously. Could be good.
Would've been cool to hear them tackle some more 'unknown' track, though... everybody does GOK... Title: Re: The flaming lips: working on a beach boys cover Post by: stack-o-tracks on March 18, 2012, 02:51:43 PM Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Title: Re: The flaming lips: working on a beach boys cover Post by: MarcellaHasDirtyFeet on March 18, 2012, 03:40:55 PM I love the Lips, so I'm interested. Do we need a weird cover of GOK? No. But I'll happily buy it if it doesn't cost $150 and come in an edible gummy fetus

I'm surprised they didn't do something from SMILE. Seems more up their alley. Title: Re: The flaming lips: working on a beach boys cover Post by: pixletwin on March 18, 2012, 07:13:32 PM It's prolly for a Pet Sounds tribute for mojo or some such.
Title: Re: The flaming lips: working on a beach boys cover Post by: pixletwin on March 18, 2012, 07:21:28 PM Duh... the latest post from Wayne says it is for mojo right there in the heading.
Title: Re: The flaming lips: working on a beach boys cover Post by: Shady on March 18, 2012, 09:40:51 PM Being done for MOJO
Possibly a cover story of the 50th Title: Re: The flaming lips: working on a beach boys cover Post by: The Shift on March 19, 2012, 01:44:22 PM Mojo's done some classic albums covered by various artists in recent months - The Wall and Abbey Road spring to mind. Maybe they're planning Pet Sounds for later in the year? Some of these have also been released on vinyl as well as CD. Here's hopin'.

Agreed, would've been nice to hear them cover a more obscure track but will be interested to hear their take as also a Lips fan. Title: Re: The flaming lips: working on a beach boys cover Post by: SMiLE Brian on March 19, 2012, 02:14:38 PM Lips doing "do you like worms" would be awesome.

I'd be interested to hear the Flaming Lips record a version of SMILE like they did of Dark Side Of The Moon. Title: Re: The flaming lips: working on a beach boys cover Post by: Lowbacca on March 19, 2012, 03:54:34 PM Their Dark Side Of The Moon wasn't that spectacular, but yeah, SMiLE material would be more up their alley.
Looking forward to a Mojo presents Pet Sounds CD for the time being... :) Title: Re: The flaming lips: working on a beach boys cover Post by: stack-o-tracks on March 19, 2012, 03:57:49 PM But I'll happily buy it if it doesn't cost $150 and come in an edible gummy fetus Exactly. Title: Re: The flaming lips: working on a beach boys cover Post by: Myk Luhv on March 19, 2012, 06:11:02 PM I'd be much more interested if they covered "Celebrate the News" or "My Solution" or even "All I Wanna Do"... but this is neat too, I guess. Hopefully it'll be at least decent.
Title: Re: The flaming lips: working on a beach boys cover Post by: MarcellaHasDirtyFeet on March 20, 2012, 06:20:38 AM Lips doing "do you like worms" would be awesome. This. My God, just thinking about it makes me giddy. If only... The 6 hour song was on their Soundcloud - haven't listened to it all, mind, but I got about 4 hours in. As for the 24 hour song.... god knows. I'm sure it's about on the web. Might never listen to it, though.... Title: Re: The flaming lips: working on a beach boys cover Post by: pixletwin on March 20, 2012, 08:10:59 AM THe 24 hour song, 7 Skies H3, is really intense but rewarding listening experience. Even sober! :lol
Title: Re: The flaming lips: working on a beach boys cover Post by: soniclovenoize on March 20, 2012, 05:24:49 PM What happened to that song that was suppose to be for hours on end? Both the 6 hour song and the 24 hour song are both still out there, still streaming. The 6 hour song in on youtube, but the guy who uploaded it told me he tried to upload the 24-hour song and his computer crashed. dl's are abound too... Also, not BB-related but FLips-related... Anyone hear the new audio documentary on the making of Hit To Death In The Future Head? They discuss the multitrack masters and dissect the sounds on there... Pretty cool! http://satelliteheartradio.com/ |
