It doesn't necessarily mean it's the last album, though... just a clever title. THANK you. Been meaning to say that. People live into their 90's, and the boys are 70 or younger. Tony Bennett is 85 and seemingly going strong, and a pianist named Horszowski (sp.?-- I don't mean Horowitz) did his last recording at 99. I'd say it's LIKELY their last album, given the way things have been for the last 25 years, but that's just an assumption, seeing as Brian just decided to start sounding 30 again in the last few years. Maybe they'll remake Fall Breaks and Back to Winter on this one, and Winter Symphony on the one after that. If they make a 3rd reunion album for their 75th anniversary, I guess they're stuck cycling back to Their Hearts Well Full of Spring. At that point, it'll be a Wall of Foskett. >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( Title: Re: Big, Big News! Post by: Jaspy on March 09, 2012, 07:11:02 AM So where's the BIG, BIG news?? So dramatic! I doubt this will be anywhere near the quality of that one. I finally just recently saw the BBC “Real Beach Boy” documentary. It was a great doc, great interviews. All around great in terms of content. But I think a better film can be made, just in terms of presentation. The editing/pacing and narration of the documentary was not bad at all, but came off a bit cheap/cheesy. That probably had to do mainly with only having a certain amount of running time, and to do with needing that sort of British version of the “E! True Hollywood Story” narrator. It sounds like whatever shows on PBS on this Beach Boys thing is going to be much more performance-centered, and not a straight documentary. The BB’s *desperately* need a long-form, multi-part documentary done while the guys that remain are still alive. “Endless Harmony” is the best we’ve got, but something much longer and in-depth is needed. Post by: joshferrell on March 09, 2012, 03:46:09 PM I hope this isn't their last album but hasn't Brian been talking about plans for future solo stuff? so why not do other Beach Boys albums instead of solo stuff, also they are headed into their 70's who knows how long any of them are going to live (just look at Davy Jones)or if they even FEEL like doing more cds within the next couple years or how healthy they will be,let's face it alot of musicians usually slow down when they get into their 70's and some stop all together..so I'm going to be realsitic and say that there's a chance that this may be thier last cd together :( it's sad but we have to except their mortality..

Post by: HeyJude on March 09, 2012, 03:56:53 PM Wow. I've seen A LOT of films (documentaries, indies, Hollywood) and The Real Beach Boy is in my top 3 favorite films ever. Are you sure you saw this film? I have to agree with your last sentence: I'd love to see HBO do a miniseries. I watched it, and it was really good. I suppose as a fan, I look at the film in two ways: In terms of the content and subject matter, I found it quite good and intensely interesting. Obviously, Jon Stebbins' book goes into much more detail, but the doc certainly touched on a lot of things the typical BB doc hasn't, and we got to see and hear from people that need to be seen and heard from. In terms of this as a "film", it's a bit less successful, and that's largely not the fault of anyone I would imagine. It was a somewhat short made-for-TV documentary. The budget and time constaints only allow for so much. They had to breeze through some stuff, and I'd say the overall tone was a bit more indicative of it being a TV documentary. Also, as I mentioned, it's not a big deal at all, but the style of narration (and perhaps the choice of even having a narrator) also contributed to it having a TV documentary vibe. And that's okay; it was a TV documentary! :) But no, I wouldn't say this is in my top list of all-time favorite films ever. I don't even think it was neccesarily the best BB-related documentary, although all of them have their problems and strengths. Title: Re: Big, Big News! Post by: rogerlancelot on March 09, 2012, 04:16:24 PM The Real Beach Boy doc was excellent. I have showed it to many people who had little or no interest in the BB's. Personally it makes me want to hang out with Ed Roach. He comes off as very cool (so does David).
