Title: Your Favorite Songs as far as vocals go? Post by: Newguy562 on March 05, 2012, 05:40:01 PM We all know the instrumentals that Brian constructs are amazing but what makes the Beach Boys music standout from everyone else's' is their close vocal harmonies."Please Let Me Wonder" always leaves me speechless..the ending makes me melt. (Only a few songs have that effect on me and this is definitely one of them.) Every time i listen to that song i rewind the last 30 seconds of it at least 5 times. What song do you think the beach boys perfect the most vocally?

Title: Re: Your Favorite Songs as far as vocals go? Post by: Phoenix on March 05, 2012, 06:37:36 PM Probably "Don't Worry Baby" and "Wouldn't It Be Nice". And it's probably no coincidence that those two songs (in reverse order) are my two favorites by the band, period.

The acapella-mix, heaven! "Cabin Essence" + "Vegetables" and the backing vocals of "Help Me Rhonda" from the 1967 Leid In Hawaii rehearsals Title: Re: Your Favorite Songs as far as vocals go? Post by: Myk Luhv on March 06, 2012, 12:57:01 AM I'll Bet He's Nice, It's Over Now (second piano demo), Please Let Me Wonder, All I Wanna Do, Aren't You Glad, Forever (a cappella), Add Some Music (a cappella), 'Til I Die, All This Is That, Wind Chimes (Smiley Smile), Ding Dang, There's No Other, Time To Get Alone, Kiss Me Baby, Cool Cool Water
and a lot more too but those are the ones I selected off the top of my head that were not at the same time incredibly obvious (i.e., Wouldn't It Be Nice, Don't Worry Baby, etc.) -- though, of course, I felt some worth repeating... Title: Re: Your Favorite Songs as far as vocals go? Post by: MyGlove on March 06, 2012, 05:22:59 AM Wind Chimes from Smiley Smile. Especially whispering winds part. Wouldn't it be nice. God Only Knows. Caroline No. Hang On To Your Ego (you can feel the psychadelia). Long Promised Road (Carl's vocal specifically) and of course Don't Worry Baby and Please Let Me Wonder. Oh and Little Bird :D Forever, I Get Around, Sail On Sailor, Let's Put Our Hearts Together (Marilyn's voice is a nice change up, and it's probably Brian's best vocal on that album). I'll stop there cuz I'll end up just listing everything.
Title: Re: Your Favorite Songs as far as vocals go? Post by: rab2591 on March 06, 2012, 07:04:14 AM Do You Wanna Dance, Wouldn't It Be Nice, Don't Worry Baby, A Day In The Life Of A Tree, Break Away, Anna Lee - The Healer.

For me the Vocal only 'Wouldn't It Be Nice' is STUNNING and by far their best work , AND the vocal only 'California Girls' is sublime and must say a brilliant Mike lead vocal AND has anyone/everyone heard the vocal only mix of 'Cottonfields' ? PHeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwww Title: Re: Your Favorite Songs as far as vocals go? Post by: seltaeb1012002 on March 06, 2012, 10:44:36 AM The Girls On The Beach. That minor to major thing at the end is incredible. Same idea he went for on "Child Is The Father Of The Man".. which I attempted to replicate harmony-wise on my SMiLE mix. Hell, I should've just grabbed it from the PLMW acapella, now that I think about it! Title: Re: Your Favorite Songs as far as vocals go? Title: Re: Your Favorite Songs as far as vocals go? Post by: Paulos on March 13, 2012, 01:01:08 PM It's a bit hard to choose considering how amazing their vocals were on the vast majority of songs, especially from Surfer Girl up to Holland but I will probably go with:
Hushabye - listen to the vocal split from the GV box, heavenly! Girls On The Beach - the blend, the key changes, Dennis' middle 8, all sublime Wouldn't It Be Nice - the stack-o-vocals from TPSS box are a revelation Heroes & Villians - so many different and complex parts, a vocal tour de force A Young Man Is Gone - 02:18 of pure a cappella brilliance, only topped by the next song... Our Prayer - so amazing I can't think of any superlatives that do it justice Cabin Essence - Carls' lead, the 'doings', the 'who ran the iron horse' section vocals, 'truck drivin' man' vocals and finally Mike's killer 'Grand Coulee Dam' parts - by the end of the song I feel worn out from marvelling at the vocal prowess on display. Title: Re: Your Favorite Songs as far as vocals go? Post by: FatherOfTheMan Sr101 on March 13, 2012, 02:11:19 PM The "Cantina Version" of Heroes and Villians... The crude yelling sound is amazing...
