Indeed he does...I'm glad he's having a good time with them.  I'm sure it's bringing back some good memories for all of them.

Let's hope they wear clothes like that at their concerts. None of them are wearing those awful beach themed shirts as Mike/Bruce have been prone to wear quite lately.

I suspect they've got a stylist in. It's little things like that that are giving me a good feeling about this reunion. They're taking it seriously and doing it properly.

Having said that.......

I do however think it would be better if they all grew big beards, as big beards are back in vogue, and no one had bigger beards than the beardy weirdy Beach Boys.

Considering who they're being styled by (hint - they did the Grammy show), I seriously doubt it.

There is no denying that there is a vibe of positivity surrounding this whole celebration. That pic illustrates that wonderfully.

I think Mike would be smiling more if they had decided to go with his original plan and recreate the "Baywatch" appearance:

So impressed with the styling, they look so cool. Brian looks like he's lost a little weight.

The contrast with this is startling. So so glad they are doing it RIGHT   :)

What worries me is the angle of the ocean. At that tilt, it will soon be empty and the threat of global warming will seem p*ssy-soft by comparison. Still, surfers will be able to go downhill all day long and experience the same thrill as skiers.

Bruce is going on a diet to fix that tilt.

Why do you fight the beach image? Nobody forced them down to the beach for that latest picture. I think it is fair to say that they are embracing the image. It is in their name. They are Beach Boys standing on the beach!

Yes the albums did. The songs were sung by the Beach Boys.

I'm not fighting it, I like picture and it's tastefully done

I like it. It doesn't look like an official picture (like for a cover or something) but just a fun one with the boys being together. I only hope that it doesn't mean the album will have a surf, fun, party theme.

I think the biggest problem in the 70's with the beach boys was their name :P

Why was that, I wonder? It didn't seem to be that big of deal elsewhere in the world, only here in the U.S.. We are strange bunch, we Americans. One of the few places where the name takes precedence over the music.

They look happy and relaxed.  Don't know what goes on behind closed doors, but I get a feeling of them being at peace with each other and the past.  Bittersweet for Brian though, he must be thinking about his brothers a lot right now.

When I was a teenager I used to think that the band's name was a reason their better music was not appreciated. And a reason why the world did not validate my own taste.

This is really good, shame it was seemingly taken with a high end phone or something.

Really hoping to see one more "iconic" photo out of these kids. I know that sounds stupid, it's not something I sit around all day thinking about, just realized it upon seeing this one.

For me, growing up has meant never using someone's youth against them or using my age as an excuse to act like I know better.

They look to me like they are looking at a camera and yes, this picture may be just a phone to the side.

Nice pic.   An un staged looking  pic of the reunited beachboys on the beach.  What fan could reasonably ask for more.  In 2012.  Still, nice as it is, it is hard to shake the memories of the animosity betwen these guys over the past decades.  One must suspend disbelief, to some extent, to fully enjoy the obvious effort put into this whole thing.   I am close to accomplishing that.  Bet most of you are also onboard.  Just dig it! :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

I'm usually not one of those Blueboarder types who acts like Brian is at the top of his game and is totally happy.....

but I gotta say he looks so happy and 'at home' in that picture. He looks happier than I've seen in years, and I think it has a lot to do with being a Beach Boy again. And for that reason, I think the group should continue for the foreseeable future, although I know 2012 is probably it as far the real Beach Boys being reunited.



*Actually, a few weeks ago, when I showed my buddy the new "Do It Again" video, he said "they should stay like this". He's a knowledgeable fan, and really digs the band. And I think instead of Brian doing solo tours (which I'd think probably wear on him) and Mike and Bruce diluting the name, they should just get together every so often and do a few dates. It would take The Beach Boys out of that bracket where other groups (with like zero original members) like "The Four Tops" and "The Coasters" who quote unquote "still tour" and at least make them more respectable, like other acts at their level of importance, like The Who and others. But I'm sure that won't happen, and the Mike and Bruce show will continue back upon the "sock-hop",-county fair rcuit and sing "Duke of Earl" even though their music is leagues beyond that type of thing.

By the hand of God himself, Duke of Earl is a thing of the past.

Nice response. However, it is uncommon for people in young or very young age to do any of those two things, specially the second one.

Classics written by boys in there early 20s, yes

Should the new album sound more like surfin USA or sunflower, personally I would go for sunflower, it had less chance of being a total embarrassment

But I'm optimistic, i really want this album to be good

Actually, it really doesn't matter what they do. It could be absolutely perfect for 99% of the fans, but someone will still bitch about something on it. And God forbid should they sing about something they sang about in their history. Are "Girls" still on the table or will that be embarrassing too? They are The Beach Boys, and there is a really good chance that they might sing about it too. 

Bruce may have found it ;D

That's not funny since Bruce already had heart issues. Hopefully he's changed his ways and is eating healthy and getting at least 30 minutes of moderate aerobic activity a day, 5 days a week.

Bruce being a bit too far on the right is one thing about this picture that makes it look so casual. They're not in perfect pose. Probably someone cracked a joke, and their laughing is real.

Mike is the only one who doesn't look happy, and Bruce indeed looks like he has been ill lately, probably the heart condition that was mentioned.

Just to set the record straight, Bruce's heart trouble - which resulted in multiple bypass surgery - was back in fall 2004. He was fine at Epsom last summer and seemed OK last time we talked, very recently.

I'm going to guess that Mike is cracking wise and the rest are laughing at it.

Does Bruce still surf?

If I remember correctly he said he does still surf, in an interview a few years ago. Don't know about present day, though.

Still surfs whenever he can.

To me Bruce just looks like a man of advanced age. And I believe that's exactly what he is - just like every other guy in that picture.

I think Bruce looks great for a man of 70, they all look good for their age really. Check out a video on youtube of Mike and Bruce doing the song Summer Means Fun, Bruce takes the lead and he still has a really youthful quality in his voice, if they're looking for a "commercial" sound on any of the tracks then having Bruce on the lead could be a shout. I'm hoping for some big Al Jardine lead vocals on the album too, he rescued a number of mediocre 80's and 90's tracks with his voice, actually probably late 70's too!
