Ok, please don't kill me for that one. :lol Title: Re: Blondie's comment on the tour ... Hopefully, none of your nearest and dearest ever develop Altzheimers. Even as a joke, that's in exceedingly poor taste. You got any medical condition I can make a dumbass joke about ? C'mon, I want to know - ya got herpes, AIDS, premature ejaculation ? Title: Re: Blondie's comment on the tour ... Title: Re: Blondie's comment on the tour ... Post by: hypehat on March 04, 2012, 09:22:04 AM Thomasogg was before my time, but I think he was a Dennista and claimed everyone else in the band were jerks. A unique perspective....
As outie, have no idea. Title: Re: Blondie's comment on the tour ... Not all that unique. I've met a whole bunch of DW fans who REALLY dislike the BB's.Title: Re: Blondie's comment on the tour ... Title: Re: Blondie's comment on the tour ... Post by: Disney Boy (1985) on March 04, 2012, 10:51:08 AM POB is about the only BB-related album my girlfriend can stand. Mind you, she likes Jessie J...

I thought there was some other excuse I hadn't heard about lol. Title: Re: Blondie's comment on the tour ... Post by: Mark Dillon on March 05, 2012, 11:51:01 AM Well, I guess we can strike "Sail on Sailor" from the setlist…
Title: Re: Blondie's comment on the tour ... Post by: Pretty Funky on March 05, 2012, 12:52:44 PM Maybe one for David.
Aside from being perfect to cover a Dennis lead, any others spring to mind? Title: Re: Blondie's comment on the tour ... Post by: Mikie on March 05, 2012, 01:08:38 PM Who sings Sail On Sailor in Brian's band? Is he touring with the Beach Boys?
Hinsche and Figueroa sing a good Sail On Sailor. Dave could probably sig it with some soul. Title: Re: Blondie's comment on the tour ... Post by: hypehat on March 05, 2012, 01:41:48 PM Scott Bennett sings it in the BW band, but I'd wager they give it to Dave.
Title: Re: Blondie's comment on the tour ... Post by: Rocker on March 05, 2012, 03:15:37 PM It's another thing when they tour solo/with their individual act, but on this tour I want every leadvocal to be sung by a Beach Boy. That includes "Don't worry baby", Brian just doesn't have to use falsetto and sing in a lower voice (not necessarily a lower key)

The only way for it too have a close enough vocal to the original is to lower the key several notches so the singer can hit those falsetto notes with ease. He can sing an octave lower than the recording. Don't think that would sound too bad. Just no falsetto. It doesn't have to sound like the record. Title: Re: Blondie's comment on the tour ... Post by: Wylson on March 05, 2012, 03:34:34 PM He wouldn't need it an octave lower, just a few tones. They should do much more re-pitching. Just stick WIBN down a few notes and chuck it to Al (heck even foster the people couldn't do it in original pitch). Much rather lower songs than backing members on lead!

Even with Carl they used Jeff and later Matt to do those leads. I guarantee you that they will not stray too far from the original sound.Title: Re: Blondie's comment on the tour ... On Brian's first tours (and I believe until 2008 or something) he still did all the leads. The sound of Carl and Jeffrey on DWB was beautiful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5I2164jnQk (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5I2164jnQk) If Brian sings it in a voice like here from 1:28 on, I think he could pull it off fine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBgipKCTmkM (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBgipKCTmkM) Remember, I'm not saying he should sing it like this, but in the same lower register. Boy, he has come a long way since then Title: Re: Blondie's comment on the tour ... Post by: drbeachboy on March 05, 2012, 04:59:51 PM I am just more of a realist, I suppose. I have followed the band and attended enough concerts to know what to expect and not to expect. Also, seeing that the back up band is mostly Brian's band, I think you will see and hear a show closer to Brian's show than of Mike & Bruce's show. I'll bet you with a song like Don't Worry Baby, they'll probably have Jeff shadow Brian's lead and take over on the high parts. That way you get the best of both worlds; a Brian lead, and it still sounding like the original arrangement.

Brian himself sang it for the first few years it was on the setlist...I don't recall being at any shows where Scott Bennett sang it, as someone else posted, but I haven't seen Brian in a few years, so it was probably a recent change (last few years). John Cowsill sings it with Mike & Bruce's band.Hinsche and Figueroa sing a good Sail On Sailor. Dave could probably sig it with some soul. Title: Re: Blondie's comment on the tour ... Post by: hypehat on March 06, 2012, 07:02:09 AM Eric, Scott did it at the Royal Festival Hall last year - I don't know how recently they gave him the lead, though.
See? Crappy vid, but I get the feeling you and Ponghit don't believe me :lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TJ9ANW12FU Title: Re: Blondie's comment on the tour ... Right, I've seen Brian sing lead (and complain about the lyrics), and also Darian. |
