The Beach Boys fell apart several years ago due to infighting and lawsuits. Now the band will mark its 50th anniversary with a new CD and tour that will include stops in Europe and Japan. They're also recording new songs written by Wilson and Joe Thomas. Fellow founding member Mike Love, who just a few years ago wasn't talking to Wilson, his cousin, said the new songs are "fantastic." He added he is particularly blown away by one called "That's Why God Made the Radio." I guess that we have to accept that such negative thoughts are part of his depressive tendencies. People with problems such as his have trouble in accepting that things can turn out good, have a positive outcome. And then, passivity is just around the corner. So I never gave much space to the idea that those close to him were 'prodding' him, or 'using him', for some goal or another (mind: I am not talking about mr. Landy here - he clearly had a hidden agenda). Brian's activity actually keeps him in the best possible mental condition too. He hopes people like his music and that they get a SMiLE out of it, no matter how many records he's selling. Popularity in terms of sold units is mainly relevant to him in terms of financial security, I guess, but obviously not in terms of ego boosting and self-assurance about his music. Otherwise at concerts he wouldn't introduce timeless classics / great feats in pop/rock composition as "a tune we hope you like" and then for instance play All Summer Long. ;)

This is the guy who still introduces himself to interviewers. I don't think his ego comes into play at all, but his sense of humour is pretty unique, and pretty intact. No. I think that was Phil - he was following Brian around and telling him he couldn't possibly exist because Capitol hadn't official stated that he did.
