Title: That's Why God Made the Radio"
Post by: Mr. Cohen on February 13, 2012, 11:07:11 PM
OMGOMGOMG!

The Beach Boys fell apart several years ago due to infighting and lawsuits. Now the band will mark its 50th anniversary with a new CD and tour that will include stops in Europe and Japan. They're also recording new songs written by Wilson and Joe Thomas.

Fellow founding member Mike Love, who just a few years ago wasn't talking to Wilson, his cousin, said the new songs are "fantastic."

He added he is particularly blown away by one called "That's Why God Made the Radio."

"It's a thrill to get together and execute that kind of song,'' said Love.

For real, what a song title. This is going to be interesting to say the least.

But it's sad to see Brian in disbelief that young people actually like the BBs.

I guess that we have to accept that such negative thoughts are part of his depressive tendencies. People with problems such as his have trouble in accepting that things can turn out good, have a positive outcome. And then, passivity is just around the corner.

So I never gave much space to the idea that those close to him were 'prodding' him, or 'using him', for some goal or another (mind: I am not talking about mr. Landy here - he clearly had a hidden agenda). Brian's activity actually keeps him in the best possible mental condition too.

I think that's part of his leg pull of life..

"Hey Brian you're popular," says interviewer.

"Really? No sh*t!" says the guy who's sold 200 billion records and just given himself writer's cramp signing copies of The SMiLE Sessions.

I reckons it's been going on for years, and convincingly.

He's just being humble, that's all. He hopes people like his music and that they get a SMiLE out of it, no matter how many records he's selling. Popularity in terms of sold units is mainly relevant to him in terms of financial security, I guess, but obviously not in terms of ego boosting and self-assurance about his music. Otherwise at concerts he wouldn't introduce timeless classics / great feats in pop/rock composition as "a tune we hope you like" and then for instance play All Summer Long.  ;)

Agree wholeheartedly also. This is the guy who still introduces himself to interviewers.  I don't think his ego comes into play at all, but his sense of humour is pretty unique, and pretty intact.

Wasn't Joe Thomas given a restraining order from Brian?

Yeah, thank god his unique sense of humour wasn't damaged through the dark years and still remains with him. He's just a deeply funny human being, besides other likable character traits, even if he doesn't try to be intentionally.  :)

Mike and Brian's banter between them is always funny as well.

Let's hope some of that is featured at a regular reunion concert.  ;D

No.

I think that was Phil -  he was following Brian around and telling him he couldn't possibly exist because Capitol hadn't official stated that he did.

Or something…   ;D

I am eagerly awaiting a revival of the "Brian-isms" thread! ;D

At this point should we really take what Brian says in interviews with anything more than a grain of salt?
