Title: If You Could Listen To 3 Songs Before You Die What Would They Be?
Post by: Newguy562 on February 10, 2012, 03:23:51 PM
I have so many favorites but i picked these songs for obvious reasons. :)..then again in an hour i'll change songs because I know too many just to be happy with 3 forever.  What would your 3 be? & What do you think of my top 3 songs?

1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4t2VSB5EJxc (Something soothing/mellow to relax myself.)
2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odJuNyfteQg (I would skip the verses  & go to the chorus.)
3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0s7zqYF8NU (Something positive that would cheer me up.)

And When I Die - Blood Sweat and Tears, for a song about death it's upbeat!

Sweetness Follows - R.E.M., not so upbeat

Have you heard Laura Nyro's original version of And When I Die? If not, I'd recommend it.

I have and it's as brilliant as one would expect from her, she's penned many classic songs, truly an exceptional talent.

If you're talking a death is just around the coroner scenario, I won't waste my time listening to songs; I'll be writing 'em. I'd also like to do a little something good for someone.

Ok what genre of music would you do then?

Does it matter?

Find them! California Girls instrumental is on the Stack-O-Tracks album (that's the final song I want to hear before I cease to exist). ITBOMM instrumental is on a few boots....probably the greatest piece of music I've ever heard in my life.

i heard the california girls instrumental :] it amazes me how the beach boys created it...i really feel like it's been over-looked as just a hit it's a beautiful piece of music!
and in the back of my mind :] as much as i love dennis's singing on it i wonder what brian would've sounded like on it.
i love it too it shows that brian was definitely blossoming into a composer like his idol phil spector...

And As Slow As Possible by John Cage, because it lasts 639 years  :lol

To be an ass, My song "Watercolours"

It's just that kind of song, where you see the "coming of age to a finale" kind of thing.

In all seriousness, this. Possibly the greatest song ever written.

Here's 3 morbid ones. Oh, wait, they're supposed to be morbid....

1. "It Was A Very Good Year" - Frank Sinatra
2. "Comfortably Numb" - Pink Floyd
3. "The End" - The Doors

I want to hear Jim sing "This is the eeeeeennnnnnnnnndddddddddddd" one final time, then those little tinkly sounds, then I'm gonna join him.

Nice list you got there...
My picks:

1.Young at Heart/Frank Sinatra
2. Dream/Pied Pipers      (Written by the great Johnny Mercer)
  3.  We'll meet again/Ink spots   (I had classical picks in mind for this third slot here, but I'll take a strict interpretation of the song category)

Yeah, No drums or rock n' roll on my deathbed.

With the sickle of death hanging over me, I just can't imagine enjoying that.... unless, I was smuggled in a brompton caulktail, by a sympathetic nurse. A potent mixture of cocaine, morphine, alcohol and klonopin, this caulktail would give me the strength to rock in my darkest hour!!!

I would then prepare an alternate list.

Gonna ammend my choices slightly:

"Birds" - Neil Young
"Into the Mystic" - Van Morrison
"Doo Wop in Harlem" - Prefab Sprout
and close off with the string overdubs of "Don't Talk"

Yeah, that oughtta work. If not, break out the closing 3 or 4 tracks to TWGMTR and we're golden (despite the somewhat downer aspect of me being dead).
