I assume ASL is All Summer Long. Took me a minute to figure it out. But it's Warmth Of The Sun. Would be a terrible song to close the show out with. This is the song they play maybe 5 or 6 songs into the setlist with Mike all "now we're going to slow things down a minute with this song I wrote with Cousin Brian the night JFK was shot.... It's called Welcome To The Jungle. Seriously, the use of acronyms relentlessly on this board have made it increasingly difficult to understand what people are referring to. Obviously Iron Horse was joking, but many people do write like that consistently. Title: Re: WOTS and ASL must be the concluding songs of the reunioun tour and Barbara Ann u Post by: Ron on February 05, 2012, 01:41:11 PM As bad as Barbara Ann is, it's much better than the original. MUCH BETTER than the original.
To be honest, the best person I've ever heard sing it is: Jeff Foskett. think about that for a minute. Title: Re: WOTS and ASL must be the concluding songs of the reunioun tour and Barbara Ann u Post by: Alex on February 05, 2012, 10:44:58 PM As far as I'm concerned, they can chuck the all the car songs right out the window. Bring on Feel Flows, Long Promised Road, Marcella, River Song, Mess of Help, Cool Cool Water, Vega-Tables, Anna Lee, Little Pad, Our Car Club, Sufers Rule, Louie Louie, Carl's Big Chance, Hushabye, All This Is That, Worms, Da Da, Child, Wonderbill, SOS, Leaving this Town, Funky Pretty, Mt. Vernon and Fairway, Rollin' Up To Heaven, Trader, Don't Go Near the Water, etc.

Title: Re: WOTS and ASL must be the concluding songs of the reunioun tour and Barbara Ann u Post by: Emdeeh on February 06, 2012, 10:36:12 AM No L&M, please! That's ending the show in a "down" mode to me -- too low tempo.
Title: Re: WOTS and ASL must be the concluding songs of the reunioun tour and Barbara Ann u Post by: hypehat on February 06, 2012, 10:44:22 AM It's been posted on the Bloo by a close source that L&M won't feature on the reunion shows, which leads me to believe that no solo material will feature at all.

That's the way Brian's been doing it for years, I doubt he'd want to change that. I certainly hope he doesn't, I always thought that it's a perfect way to close.Title: Re: WOTS and ASL must be the concluding songs of the reunioun tour and Barbara Ann u Post by: Ron on February 06, 2012, 10:06:25 PM Perfect way to close a Brian Wilson concert.
Title: Re: WOTS and ASL must be the concluding songs of the reunioun tour and Barbara Ann u Post by: Rocky Raccoon on February 06, 2012, 11:07:58 PM Perfect way to close a Brian Wilson concert. Which this pretty much is. Brian is the focus of the tour whether it's promoted that way or not. It has to be, otherwise I doubt he would go along with it. After all, it's pretty much the five surviving Beach Boys backed by the Brian Wilson band. None of those guys like Foskett or the Wondermints would do this without Brian. And they outnumber the Boys altogether. And personally, if Brian weren't involved in the tour and it were just Mike, Al, Bruce, and David; I would frankly have no interest in seeing that show. And I'm pretty sure I'm not alone on that.Title: Re: WOTS and ASL must be the concluding songs of the reunioun tour and Barbara Ann u Post by: LostArt on February 07, 2012, 06:03:51 AM Perfect way to close a Brian Wilson concert. Which this pretty much is. I disagree. I don't want to hear any solo stuff at this Beach Boys Celebration, I don't care if it's Brian's, Mike's, Al's, Dave's, or especially Bruce's ;). Brian is the focus of the tour whether it's promoted that way or not. It has to be, otherwise I doubt he would go along with it. Again, I disagree. Brian knows this is a celebration of 50 years of Beach Boys music, and I'll bet he's more than happy to share the spotlight. After all, it's pretty much the five surviving Beach Boys backed by the Brian Wilson band. Actually we don't know exactly who will be in the backing band at this point. According to the Beach Boys Band site, the band will feature two of Mike's band and five of Brian's, and even that has the disclaimer that the backing band is subject to change. None of those guys like Foskett or the Wondermints would do this without Brian. As a working musician, I'll say this...if I got a call from Mike Love asking if I'd like to do 50 dates with Mike, Al, Dave, and Bruce, I would jump on it. And personally, if Brian weren't involved in the tour and it were just Mike, Al, Bruce, and David; I would frankly have no interest in seeing that show. And I'm pretty sure I'm not alone on that. You're probably not alone on that, but I'm pretty sure that there are plenty of folks who would love to see that show, myself included. |
