Kind of hard to work up any desire to buy another box set of anything after owning The SMiLE Sessions box.

Part of me still says I should by this album, but considering I hardly play my CD's and i have all the Beach boys albums on vinyl, is there any need for me to get it?

That box will look good in a shelf.

Yup: the 1993 box set.

Nice box, cool t shirt but I don't think I'll buy the album again. If the official websites start putting out merchandise for this year (tour/general BB/re-releases) then I'll be more than happy to buy stuff like this individually.

Please tell me this isn't the "new" career spanning box set...

Could be.  :lol It meets the definition for 'new' as it didn't include the shirt before and it is more or less career-spanning.

Come to think of it.. would another career-spanning box-set make any sense anyway? There's the '93 box set, there's SOUNDS of SUMMER, there's all kinds of greatest hits compilations, the recent singles box etc. etc. - could be tough to market another box set to the general audience. Maybe that new box set turns out to be a thing for the fans after all, compiling largely unreleased recordings, outtakes and alternate mixes spanning their whole career. On the other hand, the rumoured live box set could also be career-spanning (classic mid-60s cuts like Sacramento, than the legendary early 70s stuff, something unreleased from the 80s and a few good cuts from the 90s era with a seasoned Carl and era-specific voices like Matt Jardine).

Mr Wilson ,

I really like your idea even though you just started a rumor!   I think a lot of us would like one of those shows with a DVD too!

The 1993 box set is 19 years old, Endless Harmony was 14 years ago, Hawthorne C.A. was 10 years ago - it's high time for a new career spanning boxset for a band as important as the Beach Boys. As mentioned in several other threads since the celebration announcement there is still quite a few high quality songs unreleased - WIBNTLA, Carry Me Home, California Slide/I'm Going Your Way, California Feelin', Big Sur (Original version), Back Home (Original version) etc. Plus, according to those on the board much more knowledgable than I, there are a lot of quality live recordings in the vaults, maybe even include the Smile tracks that had fly-ins, Barnyard, I'm In Great Shape etc, without the fly-ins. I also wouldn't mind if a new box set repeated tracks from GV, EH and HC as long as we got a nice selection of unreleased tracks such as those I've just mentioned.

Thanks, you've just made me feel very old. I remember my bus journey to buy the 93' boxset very clearly, after having phoned around various shops and finding one miles away that had it in. I also remember how cross my then girlfriend was because I'd spent a large chunk of our holiday money on it without a second thought.

"But it's got Love To Say Da Da on it" I cried

Justification enough for me.

And we had good music on holiday.

Yes to a new box set with upgraded sonics, more songs,  and such.   An 8 disc set from the beginning through the 90's, including much of the material unreleased at the time of the 1st box.  It is high time and I would certainly buy it.

Also, the 93 live material, the "box set" tour would be a great companion piece.

As for T Shirts, I seldom find one I really like and will actually wear.  Something tasteful with logo only would be nice.
What would be nice; The appeal to the great spirit or the coke logo.  In a simple black or white.  No cartoonish hotrods or surfboards, no weird color combinations.  No tour dates.

Hi Les.! Sorry i didnt mean to start a rumor.! Heck even Bruce has posted over the years + Alan in Goldmine that those shows are GREAT..! And Bruce said they should be released including rehearsals..Ive heard 2 of those shows + without a doubt both are keepers. BB harmonies arent quite as high as in their youth but well sung + played. I read somewhere CW wasnt as impressed.{Goldmine}..Jeez CW was really 2 hard on himself .IMHO.

I know, it's not the box but Sounds Of Summer is up at #96 on amazon. Someone at the thebeachboys.com-forum said it was already at #64. I wonder if that is due to the Grammy performance....

It's always a strong catalog seller, anyway. But it's certainly the Grammy/reunion boost helping quite a bit.

I think Warmth of the Sun should have been promoted better as I think a lot more people would have purchased it had they known it was a successor to Sounds of Summer. Personally, I think they should be titled Sounds of Summer: The Very Best Of, Vol. 1 and Warmth Of The Sun: The Very Best Of, Vol. 2.

As of right now, Sounds of Summer is ranked at #99 on Amazon. Warmth Of The Sun is ranked at 22,073. If that's not dropping the ball in terms of promotion, I don't know what is.

I think a three disc boxed set with the above two compilations and a brand new one would be great. Here's my proposed track list for a third volume:

This Whole World: The Very Best Of The Beach Boys, Vol. 3

1. The Girl From New York City
2. Custom Machine
3. Keep An Eye On Summer
4. I Do
5. Lonely Sea
6. Hushabye
7. I'm So Young
8. Don't Back Down
9. Girls On The Beach
10. Good To My Baby
11. Hushabye
12. Don't Hurt My Little Sister
13. Girl Don't Tell Me
14. She Knows Me Too Well
15. Salt Lake City
16. You Still Believe In Me
17. Wonderful (from Smiley Smile)
18. Cabin Essence (from 20/20)
19. Aren't You Glad
20. Bluebirds Over The Mountain
21. Wake The World
22. Celebrate The News
23. This Whole World
24. Slip On Through
25. Long Promised Road
26. Add Some Music To Your Day
27. The Trader
28. Marcella
29. The Night Was So Young
30. Goin' On
31. Caroline, No (Single Edit)
32. In The Back Of My Mind

I agree 100% with the above. The decision not to include WIBNTLA, which by all accounts is stunning, on the WOTS compilation cd still annoys me every time I think about it, which is roughly four to five times an hour. There are so many very good, often brilliant, occasionally exceptional, BB songs languishing in the vaults. Would any other band possibly be content to leave masterpieces such as Carry Me Home unreleased? I remain convinced that ego and group politics still play a large part in all of this, hence why, for instance, the Sounds of Summer 'Best Of' features two Bruce songs, plus his (flawed) cover of Bluebirds, and several Mike/Al songs, and yet Carl and Dennis's exceptional songwriting barely gets a look in.

Um, Bluebirds isn't on either of the two recent compilations, unless you're talking about the three disc Platinum Collection.
