(Richard Starkey / Van Dyke Parks) Startling Music, Ltd. [PRS] / Safe & Sane Music [ASCAP] Ringo Starr: Drums, Percussion, Vocals, Keyboards Steve Dudas: Guitar, Bass Van Dyke Parks: Keyboards, Accordion, String Arrangement Matt Cartsonis: Mandolin Amy Keys: Backing Vocals Kelly Moneymaker: Backing Vocals Title: Re: VDP on new Ringo Starr Album Post by: rogerlancelot on January 17, 2012, 06:13:55 AM There is a picture of him in the "Rotogravure" cover but I don't think he participated in actual recording sessions (or was credited anyway). Hanging out with Ringo in that era (1976-1981) must have been pretty rough.
Title: Re: VDP on new Ringo Starr Album Post by: Jonathan Blum on January 17, 2012, 07:05:26 AM Possibly Ringo wrote this with Van Dyke at the same time as "Walk With You" from his last album... which wasn't an especially remarkable number, but it had a nice cameo from Macca!
Cheers, Jon Blum Title: Re: VDP on new Ringo Starr Album Post by: Howie Edelson on January 17, 2012, 11:16:20 AM The song/track is VERY reminiscent of ORANGE CRATE ART.

Hanging out with Ringo in that era (1976-1981) must have been pretty rough. Ringo hanging out with Keith Moon during "the kids are alright" movie gives a big hint what he was doing. January 31 and Feb. 7 respectively. Big week for Beatlemaniacs!
Title: Re: VDP on new Ringo Starr Album Post by: Zach95 on January 17, 2012, 04:01:30 PM Well...I heard Ringo's new single and it's utterly atrocious. I mean...REALLY awful. In my opinion.

Could be worse... Here's the original version of the same song Ringo released in 1977, on his legendarily booze-soaked "Ringo the 4th": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W66wXkVRauo And here's the remake: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tu7qpQFGXZ0 Bit less of a '70s groove now, but at least on the new one, Ringo sounds like he's actually there! does Wings have a song called "Ringo Starr?" (drinking too much)The Nilsson documentary that came out a while back talks about this. Parks, Moon, Nilsson, Starr, Jimmy Webb, Lennon (before he moved back to NYC), and even more of these guys just constantly got wrecked..... What a set of drinking buddies... Title: Re: VDP on new Ringo Starr Album Post by: Outtasight! on January 18, 2012, 01:53:41 PM From memory, VDP arranges and possibly plays on Ringo's Stop and Smell the Roses album. If I'm not wrong I think the songs are Drumming is My Madness and the title track. Drumming Is My Madness actually has one of the worst drum breaks ever but both tracks are amusing. A host of notable others, McCartney, Harrison, Stephen Stills, Ron Wood included also appear on said lp.

Title: Re: VDP on new Ringo Starr Album Post by: Lowbacca on January 21, 2012, 10:48:11 AM VDP on new Ringo LP? Nice. I liked the last Ringo album, and much of his solo output in general. He's just fun.. and un-pretentious.
