Title: The song "Endless Harmony" I'm afraid to say... Post by: Justin on January 10, 2012, 12:17:58 PM ....that I actually like this song.
( :o Collective gasp amongst Smiley Smile Land) Let's talk about this track. How much is this song hated exactly? Bruce's voice grabs hold of me and I'm strung along to listen to the entire thing and actually enjoyed it. The cheesey keyboards make you grate your teeth a little but I think overall the song has a passing grade. (Justin puts his riot gear on) Thoughts? Title: Re: The song Endless Harmony Post by: Eric Aniversario on January 10, 2012, 12:21:46 PM I like it. Some really warbly versions have turned up over the years, like on the 1991 CD release, but the song is great.
Title: Re: The song \ Post by: Dancing Bear on January 10, 2012, 12:23:19 PM I think there's half of a good album in KtSA, and "Endless Harmony" is part of that.
Title: Re: The song \ Post by: othereric on January 10, 2012, 12:25:18 PM Beautiful song. The best parts are when Carl starts singing and that Brian-sounding falsetto note toward the end which I heard was not actually Brian. But yeah, they should play this during the Celebration tour.
Title: Re: The song \ Post by: Justin on January 10, 2012, 12:31:19 PM Bah, it's too late to add a poll....sometimes people don't want to post a message but rather just submit a vote for their opinion. Hopefully people who dislike the song also come forward and speak about it!
Great to see some positive response on the song...I always thought it was viewed mainly as a bonified clunker. Let's see which direction this thread goes! Title: Re: The song \ Post by: Mike's Beard on January 10, 2012, 12:49:46 PM The first half is a bit naff but when Carl's part kicks in it's great.
Title: Re: The song Post by: The Shift on January 10, 2012, 01:13:52 PM Love the coda... "and we sang god bless America..." I could leave the rest.
Title: Re: The song \ Post by: Jim V. on January 10, 2012, 01:30:35 PM Anybody know where to find "Ten Years Harmony"? That was the original version of this song, which I think was released by California Music?
Title: Re: The song \ Post by: donald on January 10, 2012, 01:31:14 PM The ending harmony is to die for if you are a BB fan.
Title: Re: The song \ Post by: DonnyL on January 10, 2012, 01:42:23 PM Pretty cheesy but I don't skip it. Now, 'Livin' with a Heartache' ...
Title: Re: The song \ Post by: Alan Smith on January 10, 2012, 01:44:04 PM Find it a bit of a drag, especially after coming in after Santa A W. KTSA has great moments of energy and enthusiasm, even when the song is so-so (Sunshine), but EH is not one of these
As a Bruce solo song about his old pals it's has passing interest, but as a Bruce song on his old chum's record, with his old pals singing about them(him?)selves, it's a bit strange. The Bruce section reminds me of the jazzy shticky version live to camera of Disney Girls floating around on YouTube. I also find the end music to be a bit like the wrap-up music of a made for TV film ("Bruce went on to produce more records"). And as noted by many before me, the use of the word "Harmony" during that period of the band's career(and onwards) is a bit off the mark. Title: Re: The song \ Post by: pixletwin on January 10, 2012, 02:02:35 PM Cheesy song and it lays the "Lounge Act" butter pretty thickly. But I don't despise it.
Title: Re: The song \ Post by: Mikie on January 10, 2012, 02:11:28 PM Love it. Always have, always will. I really like the original version too - also sung by Bruce.
Title: Re: The song \ Post by: BananaLouie on January 10, 2012, 02:12:15 PM I confess to not only liking Endless harmony but it's actually one of my very favorite tracks on KTSA. No one writes schmaltzy pop songs like the Schlockmeister Bruce Johnston aka Billy Baldwin, I mean Disney Girls, Wow!!!
Title: Re: The song \ Post by: Ron on January 10, 2012, 02:57:22 PM It's not my favorite song, but I can't hate on it because of the sentiment Bruce put into it. I'm a big Bruce fan therefore I'm a fan of this song.

That was the original version of this song, which I think was released by California Music? Yeah, I know where to find it. In my Beach Boys/related singles collection! 1. The original 45 itself b/w Don't Worry Baby by Californai Music - released on RCA/Equinox in 1974. 2. Japanese compilation CD called "California Music & Disney Girls". Takes care of the Equinox and RCA material. 3. A 2-CD set called "Gone Public - The Bruce Johnston Story" - Landlocked Productions. 4. One other comp but I can't think of the name/label right now!! Title: Re: The song \ Post by: hypehat on January 10, 2012, 04:27:46 PM The hell is wrong with you people. I can't stand the second section at all - "God bless America, it's the land where we tour"?!
Carl Wilson sure sang a lot of crap in his career, and late period BB's is a huge part of that. I can excuse some things because Carl sounds cool, but this, I am not strong enough to deal with. It's balls. Title: Re: The song \ Post by: positivemusic on January 10, 2012, 05:36:56 PM Couldn't find "Disney Girls," but here is California Music's version of "Don't Worry Baby."
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vxwu9eHoLY Not impressive at all, but, then again, its hard to improve on any Brian Wilson production. Title: Re: The song \ Post by: Mr. Wilson on January 11, 2012, 09:55:10 AM Must confess ive never heard 10 years of harmony..But Endless Harmony is guilty pleasure .I enjoy the tune
Title: Re: The song \ Post by: willy on January 11, 2012, 02:19:41 PM I love it. I love 'Brian's Back' too. :smokin
Title: Re: The song \ Post by: Shady on January 11, 2012, 03:02:26 PM Pretty cheesy but I don't skip it. Now, 'Livin' with a Heartache' ... Come on, that's a great song.. Hell, I love most of the Endless Harmony album Title: Re: The song \ Post by: I. Spaceman on January 11, 2012, 05:33:02 PM The hell is wrong with you people. Holy jumping crap on a flaming f*ckstick, is that embarrassing. Title: Re: The song \ Post by: SMiLE Brian on January 11, 2012, 05:39:34 PM The hell is wrong with you people. Title: Re: The song \ Post by: JCarson on January 13, 2012, 12:08:20 PM Has this been mentioned (and is this thread dead?) but for my money the 'cover' by The Free Design on the Marina collection Caroline Now! slays the Beach Boys version. An extraordinary reinvention I think, but I'm probably wrong and no one's that bothered anyway... ;D
Title: Re: The song \ Post by: Chocolate Shake Man on January 13, 2012, 05:31:45 PM Is the first half inspired by Still Crazy After All These Years?

Yes the lyrics are indeed awful - those harmonies at the end give me chills though, and I love how it all culminates in a highly engineered (but quite well done) Brian-replication. Yeah, the tag is great, definitely. |
