Title: Dennis as a producer Post by: Magic Transistor Radio on January 01, 2012, 12:46:51 PM Was Dennis ever considered to be the producer of the BBs? Did Jack Reiley ever consider him? I've read that Mike and Al would've never approved it. But when I watch the 1974 video, Dennis seems like he is professional and sober. Not sure if that was true from 69-73? Maybe 69 was to close to the Manson murders. Perhaps they felt it wouldn't be good in the public eye if they put the one who was part of the Manson family in charge? Either way, I think that musically Dennis would have been the best choice to lead the band in the 70s from a musical stand point. Carl did fine, though, and perhaps was able to keep the band together, where Dennis may have nixed just about anything by Mike and Al (?).

Dennis was either the producer or co-producer (with Carl) of his tracks on BB's LP's from '69 until '79. I doubt he was very interested in producing the other guy's songs...other than Brian that is, who he'd automatically defer to anyway.Thoughts? Title: Re: Dennis as a producer Post by: Magic Transistor Radio on January 01, 2012, 09:06:46 PM Yeah, I could only imagine if Dennis was asked to produce songs like Kona Coast or She's Got Rhythm, how he would react.

COMMENT: Dennis worked in the mornings until about 2PM. Then the other guys would work on songs. Dennis produced his own songs. Once in a while Dennis would be ask by the guys to "produce" (pass judgement on) the vocal tracks they were recording. Dennis, Michael, and Alan were all professionals. Personal differences between them remained on the other side of the studio door. Once in the studio, music making was their common goal. Dennis had no desire to produce the Beach Boys. He thought his brother, Carl, was doing a great job at holding it all together during Brian's absence. No one ever felt that Dennis was part of the Manson family. i HATE THIS SOFTWARE. i AM NOT GOING TO WRITE ANY MORE COMMENTS. tHIS SOFTWARE DOES NOT LET ME SEE WHAT THE HELL i AM TYPING.
