The Beatles perform an audition for Decca Records this day in 1962. Decca passed on the group a couple of weeks later but recorded the session. Hear some tracks here- http://rockabillynblues.blogspot.com/2012/01/beatles-audition-for-decca-this-day-in.html

You can get the whole album of 15 songs  from different vendors. It's not
great, three original songs, twelve cover songs from their stage repetoire
one way to pad the album and make it a little better, is to pad it with the
Aint She Sweet/Cry For a Shadow single, and the version of Love Me Do
with Pete Best on drums, then you get five original songs, and with a little
resequencing, you get a listenable album.

Pete Best wasn't horrible but he wasn't that good. I hear he is good now
but he certainly isin't on this audition album.
