So, how does this qualify as a "reissue"?

Let's just celebrate, I say.

Re-issue or not...this is very nice to see...and good exposure for the box and the band.

Here's the link by the way  ;D http://www.rollingstone.com/music/lists/10-best-reissues-of-the-year-20111209/the-beach-boys-the-smile-sessions-box-set-19691231

Let's celebrate nothing to do with Rolling Stone..

I think they only gave SMiLE 4 and a half stars while they gave the U2 box set 5

I'm still not over that

At 1/2 star difference neither is the universe able to get over it . This could be a game changer in how the constellation Orion is formed. We should be a bit more pleased that BW gets the coverege in the rock press that he does. Haven't seen a damn thing about the MB show ever anywhere.

Rolling Stone has their favorites where everything they say and do is worshipped, and U2/Bono is one of them.  Everyone else has pretty much trashed that recent box set release.

Rolling Stone appears to regard it as a reissue because they accept Brian and Van Dyke's premise that Smile 2004 is the finished version that got 5 stars at that time in RS.

well, Pitchfork only gave it a 9.5, and SMiLE a 10.0. So it goes.

Yeah, the U2 Box set.  I read a few reviews of it that came up as recommended reading while reading Smile reviews, but I shouldn't say "everyone is trashing it."  But I saw a couple of one-star reviews, and my local paper said it was the worst of the recent mega-boxes....
