Title: SMiLE A.D. 2.0 Preview: Heroes And Villains ('66 Stereo Mix) Post by: seltaeb1012002 on December 09, 2011, 02:46:35 AM Hey folks,
I've been hard at work preparing the revised version of SMiLE A.D. Some of the extractions are taking longer than expected, so I figured I'd hit u guys with a few mixes in the meantime. Heroes And Villains - ORIGINAL '66 Mix, in Full Stereo Barnyard -ORIGINAL '66 formatting estimation. *The theory behind this mix is: Imagine if you had never heard the BWPS version. Take a listen to the H&V demo. One can clearly hear that H&V and IIGS ended up sounding very similar in the eventual studio versions. Why wouldn't Barnyard? This is Brian's original formatting with the "Ooh's" restored to their original placement in the track, as well as some other cool stuff added. I'm In Great Shape -Revised Vocal Extraction http://icreateification.blogspot.com/2011/12/smile-ad-20-preview-heroes-villains-66.html Enjoy! -J Title: Re: SMiLE A.D. 2.0 Preview: Heroes And Villains ('66 Stereo Mix) Post by: Bleachboy on December 09, 2011, 04:24:28 AM Superb work

My one issue with Great Shape is the audible artefacts from the vocal extraction. These are presumably unavoidable, but could they be reduced at all by not using quite such full-on extraction of the vox, leaving a bit of the piano still bleeding through? I dunno enough about these things really, but if it were possible to get more natural sounding vocals at the expense of a bit of piano bleed though I think that could sound pretty natural. There's actually already a bit of piano bleeding through. It's just meticulously synched up to the track so it's not too obvious. But yeah, the source of the IIGS demo is kinda rough to begin with (lots of highs, not enough lows, super-compressed) so, trying to improve the quality, while chopping out the loud interfering piano bits is no easy task. I think this version is an improvement over the SMILE A.D. mix. I expect I'll try to revise it again at some point. If you take a listen to my Cabinessence stereo mix you'll hear I was able to get Carl's lead vocal extracted at a pretty high quality. Good source = good extraction. http://icreateification.blogspot.com/2011/11/smile-ad-stereo-mix.html Title: Re: SMiLE A.D. 2.0 Preview: Heroes And Villains ('66 Stereo Mix) Post by: Bleachboy on December 10, 2011, 01:38:24 AM We definitely have a lot of ideas in common! I did practicly the same job on Cabinessence and it sounds great. I'll probably use your Barnyard in my mix, but extended if there's nothing wrong with that!
