Post by: BigSur on November 24, 2011, 10:30:27 PM
Hey everyone, new user.
Can anyone tell me about the story behind Tune X? Who wrote it, what it became, etc. Thanks.

ANY information on this or the vocals that were recorded for it would be great! I know that the vocal track is either lost or taped over but are there any lyric sheets that exist? I guess the remaining band members wouldn't remember much about it now.

It's Carl's tune, aka Tones.  Outside Capitol's session worksheets, no evidence of the vocals remains.

I haven't heard any boots as I am quite new to the deeper world of the BBs but is it any different to the TSS version? I am amazed that no lyric sheets or snippets remain anywhere! It's such a shame!

Part of it was probably ressurected in Little Pad...the "hmmmm hmmmm hmmmm" part in LP with the steel guitar sounds a lot like the melody played by the steel guitar in Tones.

Bits of the chord progression are similar, but it's only coincidence. Also, there's a world of dissonance on several parts of that, making the case even less strong.

Also, part of "Little Pad" derives from the Smiley Smile outtake "Hawaiian Song".

If "Tune X" reminds me of anything, it's "Mona Kani" (and yes, I know that was a DW song)

What does the rest of 'Hawaiian Song' sound like?

We're lucky to have the tape that we do.

In the style of Van Gogh, I would personally give my left ear...  Hawaiian song would be amazing to hear.

That Little Pad video is really interesting. It's not quite right but you can see the similarities there. I wonder if this is the direction the song would have taken?

You couldn't elaborate on that, could you? I know it's been booted, with the stages of overdubs, but I thought the tracking session would survive in the vaults. Clearly not, though. Did the bootleggers just make off with the tape wholesale, instead of copying it?
