I was just wondering if you had any Beach Boys or solo songs (meaning Carl, Dennis, or Brian), that made you cry?
Mine is "Baby blue" by Dennis.
The demo when those slightly off key flutes come in or whatever they are makes me start to lose it.

I suppose it's stupid on the surface, I don't know.
 I'm not so sure it's the song, just the instrumental break that allows me to think of stuff with a wide open mind leaves me open to any emotion there is.  You know what I mean?
Anyway, I'm rambling.  It's your turn.

'I Wish for You' by Beckley-Lamm-Wilson is the only one.

It's the emotional high vocals. they hit me.

Believe it or not, "We'll Run Away" gets me choked up every f'n time.  :lol

Also "Cuddle Up", "Lay Down Burden", "Midnight's Another Day" and occasionally "Fairytale" and "Don't Let Her Know She's an Angel" (there MUST be other GIOMH-lovers out there!)

Same here. I listened to those non-stop during the summer between junior and senior year, which was immediately after a girl I had fallen madly in love with rejected me. They gave me something I could connect to; a sense that there was someone who understood.

"Midnight's Another Day" just floored me when I first heard the demo (still the definitive version), and when Brian first sang it live at the RFH I couldn't hold back the tears.

"Thoughts Of You" has a similar effect on me.

As does "Wrinkles", albeit for entirely different reasons.

Also..."Kiss Me Baby"...that song just turns me into jello.

Surf's Up often gets me all choked up.  I wasn't too tough to cry when I heard the new mix on disc 1 for the first time.

Surf's Up is the only song that's produced tears

I'm with you on Gettin' In Over My Head! Despite some of the criticisms, to me it sounded like the first Brian-produced album since Love You. Never cried to it, but "Fairytale" is an absolute favorite of mine.

Absolutely.  The "feels so alooooooone" lyric with the band's crescendo really pulls out the emotions for me too.

Anything that Brian sings very good again-I don't care what they use to make him sound good-RG, ITKOD, LOS, Heaven, whatever-a good BW vocal goes a long way. :'(

Surf's Up may be the all-time killer for me, though Please Let Me Wonder almost takes the cake.

Strangely, Just Once In My Life gets to me whenever I hear it. I know Brian's voice is cracking blah blah, but emotion-wise, he's right on the money!

I mean WHO hasn't felt like THAT in their life? The original is great, but Brian on the 15 Big Ones version: that's what those emotions feel like and Brian nailed it!

The synths are amazing in that song as Brian is rebuilding the wall of sound with them.

Agree completely. Stunning arrangement of this song and the vocals go right to the heart and soul of the song's premise. Carl's "...every pot of gold ain't so easy to find... could melt steel.

Brian sounds great on "Just Once In My Life". Suits the song too well. I don't understand the majority's opinion on stuff like this.

Still I Dream Of it, It's Over Now, Please Let Me Wonder, Warmth Of The Sun, Let The Wind Blow, and Till I Die. Especially Till I Die. Like the man himself says, "It kills my soul".

Baby Blue kicks my ass everytime, even more so since the passing of both vocalists.
Also, I'll bet he's nice, as each brother lays it down

With you on GOK acapella tag, chokes me up every time! Also agree with the dude who said Cuddle Up, love it. I also get quite choked up during the Who Ran The Iron Horse? sections of Cabin Essence, the vocals and the backing track are sublime and deeply moving to me.

I'm not saying it ever happened but if it happened :   ::)

I only cry at songs about dogs dying. That said, "She Knows Me Too Well" is quite a close call.

Caroline, No gets me every time.  After going through the emotional ride pet sounds is, Brian's falsetto sounds so vulnerable and unsure... it's crushing. . Also, SU '67 did it the first couple of times.  I've listened to it some 500 times by now, so I can generally stifle the tears

I'm a sucker for "The Ballad of Ol' Betsy". Gets me every time.

In The Back of My Mind, but it has a long story... I was at an amusement park with one of my best friends, and we were at the height of our friendship, but then for misc. reasons we went our separate ways, she was incredible... and that night I was so happy, and I put "Today" on the turntable, like "foreshadowing" the future...

Yeah, I think 'In The Back Of My Mind (backing track)' is one of the saddest pieces of music I've ever heard.

- Wonderful (instrumental) (I'm really saddened that a full 'backing track with background vocals' wasn't included in the SMiLE boxset....that harpsichord and those angelic backing vocals are so beautiful together. I'll just have to listen to my Secret SMiLE mix of it).

- A Day In The Life Of A Tree - that coda is one of the most heavenly pieces of music I have ever heard.

- California Girls (instrumental) (stack-o-tracks) - again, the coda is friggin' amazing. I just imagine myself soaring through the universe when listening to that part.

- She Knows Me Too Well (both the album version and backing track with background vocals). Is very tearjerking.

- Surf's Up '67 - Didn't make me cry (close to), but it blew my f**king mind like no other song has. It surprised the hell out of me when I first heard that.

- Wouldn't It Be Nice - it takes me back to some really good times in my life.

It brings me back to a sad time in my life and it always chokes me up.

No. I think it's because it's too sophisticated! Brilliant song.

I guess I only start blubbing at in-your-face dog death songs----"Old Brown Dog" by Ralph McTell, "Old Tige" by Jim Reeves, "Old Blue" by The Byrds...
