He'll certainly be at a live event. But I don't see him being on a new album.
I also wonder why the sessions didn't go over to well.....

I might have laughed as well but, frankly, John Stamos opened the door for a new generation of young American fans.  Stern is hardly catering to that group.  If he was sitting with his own kids, watching Full House, one of the "cleaner" non-violent programs in that decade, he would have readily seen that. 

They were also seen on other shows such as "Home Improvement" which is in the same category.  Sitcom, family-viewing based...That is not a Howard Stern identity.  It gave the BB "brand" some new life and re-energized new fan interest and the concert audience became a family event, overnight, largely due to the Stamos/TV appearance with young kids factor.   Stamos enabled a crossover that I have not seen with any other rock band.   

For a bunch of 40+somethings (the Beach Boys) at the time, to enjoy a resurgence in this manner in the States was a phenomenon.   Stamos is a "Kokomo era" attraction, when every kid would come into school singing Aruba, Jamaica..."  It was dee-lightful to hear 4 and 5 year olds coming into my class singing the Boys stuff!  They were exactly in the right classroom with Little St. Nick and The Man with all the Toys!

Purists will never understand that.  More's the pity. 

 

Purists don't put fannies in the seats. I see nothing wrong with Stamos touring with the band. I see John Stamos as a fan like us who got to fulfill a dream of playing with them on stage. Remember, he had the Boys' on his first sitcom with Jack Klugman, which was quite a few years before he became famous and a household name here in the U.S.

Stamos was on General Hospital with Demi Moore, both,  as newbies.

He is very kind to the special needs folks who love the Beach Boys and often brings them onstage...

And the young girls go crazy when they see him...they are Uncle Jesse fans...it is all good! 

Not that crazy about Stamos performing with the group, but I give him major props for being there for special needs fans.

Howard Stern's point was something like that it wasn't good for BB's image with all the confusion of John Stamos and BW not being on Kokomo.

I don't get the hate. Everyone of you people would shat tacks to be up on stage instead of him. I think we call this hate "Stamos Envy". ;)

Loool, no no no. I would save myself the embarrassment of going up on stage and pretending to play a guitar thats probably not even plugged in while occasionally making quick glances somewhere toward the sides of the stage. Why let an actor go up on stage wheen you have 12+ competent musicians who can actually play what theyre playing available for your live band? Sure he will make all the casual fans wet, but as a fan of the music. Just no.

Let him sit behind drums for a song or something if he really has to be there.

He does play the drums, timpani and other percussion. I suppose they unplug those too. Also, I'm an Accountant who loves The Beach Boys, so an Actor can love them too. We all have to make a living.

Thats why i said let him play the drums. Its straight up cringeworthy watching him sing and pretend to play guitar to Sloop John B.

And I never said he couldnt like them what I said is I think he should just stop shitting on their musical legacy. I'm not an accountant OR an actor so I'm not going to get up on stage with a band and pretend to play an instrument.

I get that the 2011 incarnation of "The Beach Boys" is a walking, breathing joke but if Brian fucking Wilson decides to grace those clowns with  his presence... Why's the actor gotta be there?

So, if he plays real percussion instruments then what makes you think he is unplugged playing guitar?  You surely do have Stamos Envy, no doubt about it. Can't believe I'm defending Stamos, I don't even care for him as an actor. If Mike, Bruce, Brian, Al want the man on the moon up there with them, so be it. It isn't going to make me enjoy the concert and music any more or less.

Lol. Have you even watched Stamos "play guitar"? Not even almost the right chords and he'll go from strumming to plucking seemingly at random. And you definitely arent hearing any of that in the mix. Hmmm I wonder why that is. My blind "Stamos envy" has somehow prevented me from hearing sounds that are actually there because he is totally actually playing the guitar?

Remind me again what instrument The Beach Boys made the guy who couldn't play anyhing play? Remind me again what John Stamos has contributed musically to the world? Oh yeah, it was multiple butcherings of the guy who couldn't play any instruments' song.

But hey if that group of musicians wants an actor to come out on stage and act then sure why not. Not like their legacy hasnt been sh*t on multiple times before.

Now, imagine if Dennis was the same kind of drummer but didn't join the Beach Boys until after Two Lane Blacktop. Everyone would be all "why's this ACTOR in the band?"

Stamos is a good drummer. He's given The Beach Boys a pretty cool extra kick whenever I've seen him get behind the drums.

Stamos and Cowsill playing in tandem is nothing to scoff at either!

Perhaps his point is that narrow-minded thinking won't help us better understand or learn more about the Beach Boys. John Stamos may be an actor and he may not have helped the Beach Boys' image in the 80s-90s (although he did help them gain more popularity).

Why you can't leave it at that is the real question. John Stamos is a musician in addition to being an actor, that's why he jumps up on stage and plays instruments with The Beach Boys.

Have you ever seen it? Not saying its a bad movie but I'm sure there's a reason Dennis didn't star in anything else. Dennis was a musician and a songwriter. And as for acting. Anybody can do it. I didnt say well. Ever gotten away with a lie? That's acting.

It wouldn't be the first time they've shared the stage with an actor anyway. Remember the Maharishi tour?

Brian can get away with it because he is the composer of the songs..I'm sure an elderly Beethoven may have gotten away with just sitting at the paino as well...

But seriously, he was deaf as you know, and had to give up performing his music, because he played the soft passages a bit too softly.

Also used to compose with a piece of wood stretching from his mouth to the piano soundboard so he could feel the harmonies.

Probably didn't shake his fist at the heavens when he died though, though that would have been a super cool thing to do.

And while we're destroying muscial myths, Henry VIII did not compose Greensleeves. And when they try to teach my daughter this inaccuracy, which they have done for generations, I will march into the school and kick up such a fuss  they will strike the Tudors from every junior school syllabus from here to kingdom come.

In tandem...those two are unbelievable! First time I saw the double setup, not just the congas and other percussion instruments, you wonder how the percussion would not dwarf the vocals, but they don't...Just amazing...

Stamos envy...it just might be...and he really has a wonderful rapport with the special needs fans who just love the music! Very moving and he is not "acting."   It is a gift...
