Title: My "Good Vibrations" Playlist
Post by: pobbard on November 08, 2011, 10:31:24 AM
Here's the playlist on my iPod right now:

1. Good Vibrations (stereo backing track) (from PS box)
2. Good Vibrations (Early Take) (from SS/WH twofer)
3. Good Vibrations (Alternate Take) (from 40th Anniversary GV CD / RARITIES)
4. Good Vibrations (Various Sessions) (stereo mix from 40th Anniversary GV CD)
5. Good Vibrations (Stereo Track Sections) (from HAWTHORNE)
6. Good Vibrations: Session Masters (from TSS)
7. Good Vibrations (TSS CD1)
8. Good Vibrations (Concert rehearsal 8-25-67)

Yes, it looks repetitive, but it sounds great! I need to figure out how much overlap there is between #4, #5, and #6; it's possible one of those tracks (likely #5) is obsolete, but in the meantime, I am enjoying all of the stereo GV sessions.

(I considered but opted against including the "Alternate Edit" from CD5 of TSS -- I enjoy it, but it's basically just a combination of #2 and #3, only in so-so fidelity).

8. Good Vibrations (Concert rehearsal 8-25-67)

Am I crazy for wishing they had used this arrangement to re-record "Good Vibrations" for SMILEY SMILE, rather than dropping the original 1966 single (incongruously) into the LP flow?
