Great to see it chart in a respectable position but I think it deserves to be higher!

Does this suggest the 'general public' is buying this or just us?!

I would say a little bit of both. I know quite a few people who aren't Beach Boys fans but who are interested in 'Pet Sounds' and 'Smile', because they're both generally accepted as essential records for any comprehensive pop collection. And it probably doesn't hurt that the average Beach Boys fan is more likely to buy a physical record than, say, a Coldplay, Katy Perry or Jay-Z fan. Those artists are simply not as collectable and their fans are generally younger and not as attached to the concept of a physical record as "we" are.

Very impressive showing - hopefully word of mouth and all the great reviews will keep sales chugging along nicely.

I'm not sure if this is a different chart, but I just came across this article:

http://www.nme.com/news/florence-and-the-machine/60162

"The Beach Boys' long awaited album 'Smile' is set to be Number 15..."

The #15 they're stating was accurate for the mid-week chart: note the date of the article.

Just wait until January. It's gonna sell a million copies then!

That's very good for an album made in 1966/67

One thing to consider is how many people on here actually bought a copy that would count towards the charts?

I spent £128 on 5 CDs, but none of this counted.

You guys have to agree apart from some interviews the promotion was pretty non existent, at least compared to releases from Pink Floyd and the other big box sets this year..

So with that, these placings are really great, and trust me the word is spreading and spreading, people are hearing SMiLE

And hey, it did better than U2  ;D
