I am inches away from finishing the first movement of SMiLE, and was really hoping to wrap it up and post it this weekend... buuuuuuuuuuut other life duties call, so here's Cabin Essence instead.  as usual, it's all me on vocals and all instruments.  let me know how you like it!

This is stunning, and superb...one of the best Brian Wilson/BB's covers I've ever heard. Fantastic work.

Hey I'm trying to learn Cabin Essence...  I found some chords on the 'net that seemed pretty accurate, capo'd on the third fret:
Cmaj/G C7 F Em Am G F#dim Am7

...but that F#dim doesn't sound right.  What should it be? 

It's really more of a piano song - try a D, though, the chord proper is F/G on a piano.

Hmmmm, I will say that  a D/F# of D6 sounds good...  :/

yeah, there's something going on in the bass that's a bit tricky to replicate.


Does anyone know the notes the banjo plays in the verses?

I'm doing this from memory and transcribing my own humming, so it might not be 100% right, but I believe the piano chords in the verse are:

Ebmaj7/G
Eb7/G
Ab/Eb
Gm7
Cm7
Bb/D
Dm7/G
C (note only, no chord)

And the banjo notes are:

G Bb Eb G F, Eb F F G
Ab G Ab, Eb C Bb, D F F G

Hmmm, OK so that would make the chord I'm looking for ad an Fm7/C?  :eek:

If I were to attempt this song, it would probably sound like 15 Big Ones/Love You/Long Beach '81 BB vocals meets the Sex Pistols meets the Shaggs...I'm awestruck by all the talented musicians/singers/whathaveyou hanging around here. I play OK R&R guitar, but my keyboard non-skills could never do the BBs stuff justice.
