It's pretty cool...very 60's but I wish it wasn't so Beatles' Yellow Submarine-ish.

Yeah same here. Kind of has the Frank Holmes style but yeah, definitely they were trying to do Yellow Submarine... reminds me of that scene from Walk Hard!

It's ok. But I agree that it comes too close to Yellow Submarine.

I liked a lot of the ideas in it, I think it was poorly executed however.

I loved the artwork, the SMiLEing ocean, the colors, the inclusion of the bandmembers, the 'Endless Summer' homage, the skeletons in the cantina. But aside from that, the story seemed mundane (or just missing altogether), there were too many repeated animations/scenes. And I agree...it did seem to rip off 'Yellow Submarine'.

Thanks for posting P.J.!

Lifelong animation fan here: Yeah, it's derivative of Yellow Submarine, but I like it a lot!

The visual theme even fits the release date -- nice touch.

The only question I have is why doesn't the girl go for Dennis first?  :lol

Sorry,  but I really don't like this at all. The whole thing looks like a crappy flash animation. Nothing is in time with the music. It looks rushed, poorly planned and does not compliment this wonderful music in the slightest.

Now if they'd used animation, vintage footage and CGI, they could have done something special. Look at the Free As A Bird video done, what, 15 years ago. I suppose The Beach Boys SMiLE just doesn't warrant a video budget of more than £2.50

My wife likes it though.

Keep in mind that this is the winning video from the Tongal contest.  A month is hardly much time to put something like this together, especially when you're working alone and have no budget behind you.  I know if I had more time, I would have done A LOT more with my entry (I came in 3rd).  Robert did a great job.

Cool video, the only thing that irks me (and it's nothing to do with the actual video) is that Capitol have it tagged under "Surf Rock", 45 years later and they are still trying to push that image, they done the same with the SMiLE box that came with a surfboard, promoting an image that Brian was pretty much trying to fight with this album, I know that is the music that they are most popular for amongst the general public, but SMiLE has as much to do with surfing as it does buttered toast.

So it's an amateur film? The person who made this was not paid? OK fair enough, I retract my criticism

For a minute there I thought it was the official video

Phew

For what is worth I liked your video the best, Todd. Can't believe you didn't win.

This is the thread where it's perfectly acceptable and standard to be critical of someone else's work.

I like it - very Alan Aldridge. The bit at 'My children were raised' looks like the sleeve of Endless Summer.
