Title: The Official Bent SMiLE Lithograph Thread Post by: Justin on October 28, 2011, 07:23:24 PM I touched on this on another thread, someone from the Steve Hoffman board claimed they recieved their CD/Lithograph package in the mail today and said that the print was bent due to the complete lack of any kind of shipping protection. I received mine today and my print suffered the same fate. It's a large cardboard envelope with the lithograph simply placed inside--along side the double CD set which is kept in a small bubble wrap package. The cardboard package is bent and has dents...which all went through right to the lithograph.
I'm not sure how many other have ordered this bundle but I suspect there will be more of the same and I thought one thread would be good since I intend to contact them about a refund or replacement. Thought it'd be good to hopefully condense all the responses into one thread rather than mix it up with all the other threads which should focus mainly on reviewing the box set and the wonderful music. I'll post pictures shortly. Title: Re: The Official Bent Lithograph Thread Post by: runnersdialzero on October 28, 2011, 07:35:02 PM A kid on another board I post at said his suffered the same fate.

Title: Re: The Official Bent Lithograph Thread Post by: Justin on October 28, 2011, 09:45:27 PM And now for the evidence....
The lightweight cardboard packaging they used, note the huge crease going right down the middle. Directly behind this crease, inside, was my lithograph---completely unprotected (http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx347/justinmsosa2/Misc/1.jpg) (http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx347/justinmsosa2/Misc/2.jpg) Do Not Bend?? Yeah, nice try. (http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx347/justinmsosa2/Misc/3.jpg) Here are the dents throughout the lithograph: (http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx347/justinmsosa2/Misc/4.jpg) (http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx347/justinmsosa2/Misc/4a.jpg) (http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx347/justinmsosa2/Misc/5.jpg) (http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx347/justinmsosa2/Misc/6.jpg) (http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx347/justinmsosa2/Misc/7.jpg) (http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx347/justinmsosa2/Misc/8.jpg) (http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx347/justinmsosa2/Misc/9.jpg) (http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx347/justinmsosa2/Misc/10.jpg) (http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx347/justinmsosa2/Misc/10a.jpg) (http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx347/justinmsosa2/Misc/10b.jpg) Just look at how this print is bent! (http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx347/justinmsosa2/Misc/10c.jpg) Take a look at how THIN this cardboard envelope was. Absolutely no support that would protect this from the slightest handling at the post office. This thing came all the way from New York and they expected this packaging to suffice. Unbelievable (http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx347/justinmsosa2/Misc/11.jpg) This is literally how they packaged the lithograph. You opened it and there it was...just sitting there...practically exposed with only a very thin cardboard protecting it from the outside world. (http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx347/justinmsosa2/Misc/12.jpg) (http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx347/justinmsosa2/Misc/13.jpg) So I've already sent them an email through their website (http://www.merchdirect.com/help) asking for a replacement sent to me by MAILING TUBE. I suspect they did things like this to save on money. Had they sent this in a tube, they would have had to package the CD seperately...so they decided to fit both into one package. But the lack of protection? Unacceptable. I have a suspicion they will simply blame the USPS for this blunder. They may have already had this planned out....look at the two "FRAGILE" and "DO NOT BEND" stickers on the front. I bet that'll be their defense in this whole thing. I'll post again if I get a response from them. Hopefully others will do the same. Title: Re: The Official Bent Lithograph Thread Post by: Andrew G. Doe on October 28, 2011, 10:53:09 PM You'll not be thinking this, but it could have been worse - someone else's turned up soaked through.
Title: Re: The Official Bent Lithograph Thread Post by: Shady on October 28, 2011, 11:02:52 PM That is terrible..
What a waste Title: Re: The Official Bent Lithograph Thread Post by: Jay on October 28, 2011, 11:09:20 PM "Soaked through"? Do I even want to know what the story surrounding that is? >:D
Title: Re: The Official Bent Lithograph Thread Post by: Justin on October 28, 2011, 11:21:32 PM Yeah I saw that on Facebook...totally sucks. There's one other complaint on the Beach Boys wall from a guy who had the same results as I did. I have no idea how MerchDirect is going to fix this....there isn't going to be one person who has received this item and will be happy with its condition.
I was really disappointed today to receive the Brian Wilson autographed lithograph completely water damaged. This is a Christmas present to my husband, a life long devoted fan. I've already submitted a request from MerchDirect, but maybe you should consider using a more responsible merchandiser - The lithograph was not even protected in any plastic. Hope they do something about it, even if it means Brian having to sign extra litho's.
Reminds me of the BWPS SMiLE limited edition box with the 3d art fiasco. Title: Re: The Official Bent SMiLE Lithograph Thread Post by: mammy blue on October 29, 2011, 06:42:40 AM Did anyone else order the surfboard set? Mine arrived in bubble wrap and duct tape, and the contents of the box were strewn across the length of the board. Also, a large chunk of the surfboard was missing where Mike Love's "baked in replica of an autograph" would have been, and there's a long brown line running through the middle that I don't think was advertised as part of the design. Should I do something about it?
Title: Re: The Official Bent SMiLE Lithograph Thread Post by: mammy blue on October 29, 2011, 06:45:48 AM Also, my light up box set doesn't light up, but every time I press the button, my dog starts barking. is this normal?
Title: Re: The Official Bent SMiLE Lithograph Thread Post by: Mr. Cohen on October 29, 2011, 07:05:52 AM Imagine my dismay when my Brian Wilson SMiLE sideburns came in the mail and there was only 1! How am I supposed to go around with 1 sideburn?
When I complained, they didn't respond. But then 3 days later, a bucket of green paint arrived on my doorstop. Capitol, I call shenanigans! Title: Re: The Official Bent SMiLE Lithograph Thread Post by: bossaroo on October 29, 2011, 11:59:30 AM how sh!tty...
you'd think anyone charging as much as they are for these sets would spring a little extra for the proper shipping containers and protection of the items within. what a disappointment. and i didn't even order the lithograph... >:( Title: Re: The Official Bent SMiLE Lithograph Thread Post by: hypehat on October 29, 2011, 12:27:54 PM Yeah, that's terrible. Hope it gets resolved for you, and others.
Title: Re: The Official Bent SMiLE Lithograph Thread Post by: Aegir on October 29, 2011, 12:45:27 PM That's awful, especially the water damage one.
Title: Re: The Official Bent SMiLE Lithograph Thread Post by: Ron on October 29, 2011, 05:17:02 PM Man, that really sucks. I'm not very picky and things happen, but I'd be pissed with all those wrinkles. Somebody track down those pics of Brian signing them, are we sure he didn't just crumple it up accidentally or something?
I mean especially when they're charging for this stuff, they ought to be more careful. If it was a gift or free or something, that would be one thing, but damn. Title: Re: The Official Bent SMiLE Lithograph Thread Post by: OneEar/OneEye on October 29, 2011, 05:24:54 PM The litho, lighted box and surf board sets were, as i recall, very expensive - and with that in mind there's no excuse for shoddy shipping.

You mean soggy shipping :P Title: Re: The Official Bent SMiLE Lithograph Thread Post by: guitarfool2002 on October 29, 2011, 05:28:16 PM Have they mentioned anything about waxing the Smile board so it's ready to hit the water right out of the box?

Yeah my thoughts exactly. Considering we actually paid for this....there is no reason why anyone should have to settle for this product in its current condition. Let's see how they intend to fix this........ Title: Re: The Official Bent SMiLE Lithograph Thread Post by: harveyw on November 13, 2011, 12:27:28 PM Have any UK subscribers received their orders from www.thebeachboys.com yet (either the limited litho version or otherwise)? I've now received my second email to inform me that there's been a "delay in obtaining the item". Are others experiencing the same delays? You'd think with 6+ weeks advance notice (I placed my order in the first week of september) they might have got their act together in that time.
Another shoddy Wilson-related mailorder experience. Sigh. |
