Title: how'd Rick Henn & Brian hook up?
Post by: punkinhead on March 15, 2006, 09:51:23 AM
I figured they might have been at odds with murry, but i guess that would be irrelevant in the early 70s. did they write anything else besides soulful oldman sunshine? how could they not write anything else as beautiful as that. i honestly think that's one of the boys most underrated vocal performances, espcially in the 70s

And since we’re on the topic…I’m sure this has been discussed, but I must have missed class that day: Why does the version on Endless Summer keep changing between stereo and…not as good stereo?  Is it a composite track? Was there not a completed track in the can?

Yeah, it's a composite of some sort, a lot of editing had to be done from what I understand.

Whatever it is, it sure sounds great and I'm glad they released it!

To avoid confusion Bubba, I think you meant the "Endless Harmony" soundtrack, not "Endless Summer". I believe Alan Boyd mentioned that certain parts of "Soulful Old Man Sunshine" had already been mixed (these dub-down sections are the only existing elements of said sections) prior to the assembly for EH, so the track is a hodgepodge of newly mixed sections with locked-in mix sections. Nevertheless, a delightful recording.

There was some Rick Henn involvement with a 1971 track titled "Won't You Tell Me", which was included on the Sunrays boxed set.  I think the deal was that Rick produced the song and Brian and Murry wrote it.   Dennis also contributed to the arrangement by adding some slowed down strings, IIRC.  Lovely song...

Are the mono dub-sections in duphonic false stereo?
I'd love to hear proper mix of that song.
