This place is awesome. Yes, it appears we are obsessive, but in reality we're just in-tune to some friggin' great music. And the people here make the music that much better....between the reviews, anecdotes about the band, to the in-depth discussions on equipment, this place has it all.

If it wasn't for this place i wouldn't know half of the stuff that i do about Brian and the boys. It's honestly a treat to learn from you people.

Love this place, don't know what i would do with it.

I will say that, over the years, the combined efforts of folks like Peter Reum, Bob Hanes, Andrew, Cam Mott  and many others have really transformed my understanding of Brian and the band. I think this board has actually -- in total -- put together one of the best, most thoroughly shaded, accounts of the life and times of Brian and the BBs possible.

Same here, my early days of beach boys fandom was hating Mike Love with a passion. Now I would argue with my past self (briansbathrobe) about the subject of Mike Love.

It's a great board, it's great to be back. AGD's book got me hooked into Smile , which accompanied me through my first listening of GVBS - my reward for making it through an extraordinarily tough time - and served as a point of reference for my many years on the smile shop board, right up through to BWPS.

So...props to AGD. What a great gesture to the community, and right back atcha man.

Fookme, this place gets more like the Bloo every day, only instead of gushing over Wilson we're getting horny over each other. And whO's kicking off this love-in? Only that curmudgeonly AGD. It ain't right. What next? You'll be telling me Hell's frozen over, Mikie's taken a bath or the Beach Boys are releasing SMiLE.

This place is cool because with a project such as SMiLE facts don't tell the whole story. Facts don't turn the light on, they lead to SMiLE nowheresville.  Nice that folks recognize this here.

This is a good time for feeling mushy.  I've been reading BB/BW online forums since 1995, going back to rec.music.artists.beach-boys/alt.music.beach-boys on Usenet.  Back then, the release of Smile was just a hope, with nothing even hinting that it would ever be a reality.  So much has happened to this fan community in the last 15 years...just think for a moment about all of the compilations, DVDs, books, Brian's solo albums and tours...and the technology that makes discussing and sharing and enjoying so much easier.  

Until the mid-90s, I thought I was the only nut in the world who deeply loved this music.  Thank you all for letting me know that I am not alone.

Back at you, Andrew, and fellow obsessives.  I could never count how many hours I've spent here when I could have had a life, but you folks have made it entertaining and informative, and it's been great to be part of a BB community.  What an extraordinary time...after decades of thinking wishing hoping praying that it might come true (and thousands and thousands of posts)...we're about to get an official release of the sessions.  It also strikes me as almost alternate-universe territory that Brian is giving interviews specifically about the SMiLE sessions...when for years that was the one subject he would not discuss!   It will be interesting to see what the post-Smile box era will look like on good ol' SS.net.  But right now...how won-won-wonderful to be sharing this with you all.

Just want to add my voice to the chorus. My job is severely time-demanding right now (building a marketing database) and it's all I can do to catch up on reading every few days, let alone post anything. But I cherish my time browsing this board whenever I get the chance. All your personalities and passions... good stuff. I stayed up until 2:00 AM in my hotel room here in Los Angeles (so far from home, but so appropriate to be here in LA during this time) listening to those samples...

Guys, I absolutely love The Beach Boys. Today at work I put on the UM for Wild Honey, and I just found myself listening to Can't Wait Too Long over and over again, grinning when Brian couldn't keep it together on I Was Made To Love Her etc. What is it about this band.

All human life is there, with the best soundtrack in the world.  ;D

Can we talk about Can't Wait Too Long for a second? What a great fucking song. It's better than the entire white album put together. It's just so modern, in terms of it's ambiance it's even more forward thinking than Good Vibrations. I wonder what the lead vocal would have been, on the sessions you can hear someone singing, I dunno if it's bleed through, or someone in the studio who wasn't miced, but the song seems so close to being there, why why why why didn't they just put it together. Great fucking song guys, A+ stuff, love it.

Well it satisfies both kind of fans doesn't it? For me I just ignore theory and go to things that describe what actually happened. I also simply enjoy hearing people describe what they get from the music personally.

When I got my first Smile tape, way back when, this was the track I played more than any other. That hypnotic. Even made a nine-minute edit just using the pause key and a mess of timing notes.

I swear to god, take the acappella intro from Hawthrone, and put it over the top of I Wanna Be Around. It works in a really weird way.

Also has anyone noticed that at the start of take one of the song Brian says "This piano, god, it's so terrible, I hate it"

From time to time, we might have our own internecine or whatever you call it, squabbles...

...But these are merely minor annoyances compared to what this board actually is - the best Beach Boys board around, a place full of interesting and nice people who share information, and most of all, their passion. May this board go on for many, many more years.

'Cause it's important.  Can't speak for anyone else but since 1977, when I first plugged into the UK fan circle via Beach Boys Stomp issue #1, my life has been informed and changed by The Beach Boys and their music... and in a few short hours, this long, strange trip reaches the first culmination. That I'm sharing it with folk here and on other boards is a huge plus.

I don't post terribly often, but I log in daily and always learn new things.  I was a big fan before I came across this board, but being a member here has enlightened me more than I could ever express and turned me on to so many things that I wouldn't have known about otherwise.  It is awesome to be able to post questions to many band "insiders" or at the least, people that really know their BB history, and have them converse with us.  I post at many forums, but NONE of them are as good as this one.  Thank you all.

As we rapidly approach the release of SMiLE, I raise my glass to you all and say, congratulations.  We've all waited a long time for this and we have made it!!  Three cheers to the SmileySmile forum!

People are more interesting when you don't have to hear their annoying voices or see their ugly faces. The added bonus of being able to block someone is almost like smiting. The internet allows one to be a vicious sysop. :)

Can't Wait Too Long is one of my favorite Beach Boys songs, which also means it's one of my favorite songs period.  Beautiful, perfect, hypnotic, relaxing, soothing, mysterious... all of the above.  I think it's safe to say the intro harmonies are heavenly.  Very happy that we were all given the gift of the a capella to the intro via the Hawthorne 2xCD release.  Speaking of that, if anybody is still thinking about the tune, maybe they can help me track town any more bits and pieces I haven't yet had the pleasure of hearing.  Off the top of my head this is what I've experienced:

- Can't Wait Too Long from the Good Vibrations box set.  This version is about four minutes and has a unique moment at 1:45 in where you can hear Brian respond to the "Miss you darling, I miss you so hard" chant of the boys. By unique I mean I don't hear this moment in my other versions of the song.  Brian says "miss you so hard, now... come back baby, and don't break my heart, it goes... when I'm alone lying down, looking up at the stars, reliving the (sang)... reliving the times we shared when the moons the stars and the music we loved..."  Love that moment there.  It sounds like he's either teaching the rest of the boys the song or perhaps they were just messing around.  Anybody know for sure?

- Can't Wait Too Long from the Smiley Smile / Wild Honey CD release.  This version is a little over five and a half minutes.  Aside from this being a different sounding released version overall (meaning different audio quality overall), the last 40 seconds of this one has an amazing section that does not appear anywhere on the Good Vibrations version.  In my head I would call it something like a bass tag.  The bass sounds superb.  This version has Brian doing the response to the  "Miss you darling, I miss you so hard" chant of the boys, but it's cut off sooner than on the Good Vibrations box set version.  He only says "miss you so hard, now... come back baby, and don't break my heart."

- Can't Wait Too Long (A Capella Mix)  As mentioned above, it was wonderful to hear the a capella of the intro to this song via the Hawthorne 2 CD set. 

- Can't Wait Too Long - tracks from Unsurpassed Masters Volume 19.  Great audio to have if you're a big fan of the song.  Rehearsals, takes and vocal overdubs. Fishmonk mentioned earlier the moment where Brian says "This piano is so terrible, god, I hate it" at the beginning of take 1.

- Can't Wait Too Long from SMiLE Odeon Version.  This version has a wonderful 30 second piece at the beginning I've not heard in any other version of the song.

- Can't Wait Too Long (Vocals Only Fragment, 1967) from Get The Boot Volume 1 - had a chance to hear this less-than-20-second fragment recently and I found it to be VERY cool.  It's an a capella track of the boys harmonizing during the "I miss you darling, I miss you so hard.  Now come back baby and don't break my heart." The reason I find this piece to be so fascinating is because I don't hear the boys completing that line in harmony in ANY other mix or excerpt I've heard (unless I'm having a brain fart).  In the other versions I've listed and can think of, they only say "I miss you darling, I miss you so hard," and it is Brian in a speaking voice telling them how the rest of the line will go.  Anybody know anything more about this?

I've been lurking here for about a year and I finally just decided to get an account.  I think this place is so damn cool.  My girlfriend thinks I'm a little nuts because of how much I love the Beach Boys.  (Interestingly enough her favorite Beach Boys song is Take a Load Off Your Feet...go figure)  It's so cool that this community exists so I don't have to bore her with it anymore...lol.

I too love this song, kind of obsessed about it like SMiLE, since it's tantalizingly unfinished.  I would love a Beach Boys "Can't Wait Too Long Sessions" CD, and for Brian to finish a version with the BBs or his band.

Even though I said many things that some of you may not agree on or even disgust you at times lol.. Most of you showed me so many new things about the beach boys that I had no clue about that..it was every enlightening and I've learned alot about music in general from you guys.

This is a really special time in Beach Boys history. Just think if we had this board (and internet) in the 1960's-1970's (for those of us/you who were fans or alive then)! I visit here every time I'm on the net.

This is a great board. I've read this board, the blue board and the cabinessence board for many years, but only just recently finally joined one to post...this one.

The Blue board "Brian is god, Mike is the devil" schtick is old and tired. Sycophants, they are.

Cabinessence was a great board to read, but hardly anyone ever posts over there anymore.

This board has lively discussion and incredibly knowledgeable fans...this is the place to be. 

I may be wrong but I don't think anyone gets too fussed about old threads being resurrected. Personally I enjoy the continuity and prefer it that way rather than having the same threads constantly restarted.

I love this board. For the most part people here are friendly and respectful of one another and there is surprisingly little snobbery and condescension towards newbies considering how knowledgeable many regulars are (and patient, when explaining that Brian actually wrote the Mike Love rant for the 8000th time!)
