Title: Box Set delays in Australia?
Post by: WWDWD? on October 26, 2011, 05:17:13 AM
A mate of mine that works at JB recently said the box set would arrive today or tomorrow (Thursday).... but I called a couple of places here in Perth today and they said the shipment has been delayed til next week (however, the 2cd set will be available on Friday). Not sure if it's just Perth or the whole of Australia. Anyone else heard anything?

The girl at my local JB (I'm from Melbourne)told me on Sunday they'd be getting the 2CD and the box in on Friday.

As I've stated in another thread, I got confirmation that the SMiLE sessions are been delivered by the external supplier in the Sydney shops on Thursday 27th or Friday 28th. I've got my box set ordered thru Amazon because if you take into account the strong Aussie dollar, you come out about $25 in front of the $165 AUD price that JB Hi-Fi have it listed for. The 2 CD set for $29.99 AUD, including free shipping is what ordered through JB Hi-Fi online...I am so sweating on that arriving on my door this Friday or next Monday. I can wait a few weeks for the box set.

I asked at JB and they said it might be a week after the release date for the boxset. I had an order on Amazon as I didn't know it was being released locally which I cancelled. I'd rather walk in and grab it, also I was a bit worried about it getting damaged during shipping (unlikely but this is a BIG thing to get and want any drama). I think I may go in tomorrow and get the single or 2Cd set. I just WANT it.

It's SMiLE Day Downunder!!

I checked with JB last night at the Miranda store in southern Sydney they said  they expected it to arrive early this morning (Friday), I fully expect to be grasping the 2CD set in my sticky fingers this afternoon ... almost takes me back to when I found the Vigotone 2CD set at Red Eye many years ago!! Less the serendipitous discovery that it was back then.

Enjoy your SMiLE Day!!

I rang JB Hi-fi at Miranda today (Friday 28th of October) at 1.30 pm. They had stock of the standard 1 CD edition in but not of the Limited edition 2 Cd or Limited edition 5 cd sets. They will most probably come in next week. :o :o

FREAKING AWESOME!!

Listening as I type, so much to groove on! So much is familiar, sneaky little new bits or something you haven't noticed before.

Bizarre feeling holding an official SMiLE is your hands, with a realisation you'll probably never have that SMiLE discovery rush again that you had when you got got your Vigitone, SOT or Archeology boots.

The store experience was a tad bizzare but very SMiLE, the sales person said he knew it was in but couldn't find it, it took 15 minutes to locate it including checking with the receiving guy in the warehouse who said he'd taken the stock through to the shop, we then searched boxes of new releases until we found 24 copies. I guess it just wouldn't be SMiLE if there wasn't a drama or hassle getting your hands on it.

I then couldn't help myself and had to ring The Professor  (Lawrence Laverty) just to let him know I was holding the official SMiLE release after all these years. The Prof is catching up with Stephen McParland tonight so there should be plenty of SMiLE talk going on there.

With all the excitement of getting my hands on the CD I didn't even realise it was just the single CD until I got into the car and ripped the plastic cover off.

BUT I DON'T FREAKING CARE!!

I'VE GOT SMiLE!!

I'm pissed...very pissed. Australians continually get the butt-end deal of major international goods and services. I know cause I collect movies on DVD's and notice the American releases are often more stacked with extras. IN SMiLE's case, we are getting the same releases but if JB Hi-Fi hasn't got the multi-disc sets until next week, I'm betting no Australian retailer has. I've just got the following e-mail from JB Hi-Fi in relation to my 2 CD online order:

EMI Australia couldn't even get the Beatles' albums out on 09/09/09. The did okay with the P!nk Floyd box but they're back to their old tricks again with this SMiLE thingy. Thank you EMI Australia for ruining a day I'd planned for weeks.  >:(

The JB dude said nothing's going to be delivered on the weekend and to call back on Monday and that anyone that gives you a time that it's supposed to be in is being liberal with the truth. :(

The guy on the phone recognised my voice and he said 'but you'd already have everything' :D

CD Wow's Australian site is shipping the 2 CD set free and at a bargain price of $17.95. However, at least they are upfront on their website about ordering:

http://www.cdwow.com.au/CD/beach-boys-smile-sessions-limited-edition/dp/22221797

So we may all have to wait a week to a week-and-a-half. Also, I notice Readings in Melbourne has the Boxset on order too, so it's just not JB Hi-Fi.

Recently placed my order for the box, vinyl & 2CD set at Greville Records, Prahran. Warwick, the owner of one of the last independent record shops in Melbourne, has been a fan for years. I've bought some great stuff there, especially during the pre-internet era. Boasts that it'll be the best price in Melbourne!

I went to Planet in Mount Lawley (over here in Perth) and they had the 2cd set... I read through the liner notes but am waiting til I get the nod to come in and pick up the box set from my mate at JB. I think my housemate downloaded it cos I heard SMiLE coming from his room last night (and he usually listens to Sting or Christopher Cross). BOX SET SOOOOOOON. COME AWNNNN!

I was driving to work this morning just before 8am (I think) and ABC News Radio (630 Sydney) ran a BBC story on the release of SMiLE - not bad for prime time drive.

Received notification from Amazon US today that my box set had been shipped and should arrive on Monday (7/11) - I hope it arrives on time as I have a flex day on Monday.

Wow! 24 hours ago I received an email from Amazon saying my SMiLE Box had been dispatched from the US to Sydney and would arrive on the 7th ... bloody hell!! the freakin' thing arrived today - the 3rd!!

What a moment opening the brown box to find that amazing SMiLE box, what a cover! And inside a treasure trove on memorabilia and info - it'll take hours to absorb it all.

But what stands out is the sound quality - exquisite!!

When you get your hands on it be ready for that Beach Boys "awe" moment, its up there with meeting Brian.

The chances of walking into JB hifi and walking out with a box are almost zero. The two stores in Melbourne are getting ten boxes between them and, unless you preordered it, the suburban stores won't be getting any. I hope this isn't true but a total insider told me it earlier today  :(

Title: Re: Box Set delays in Australia?

An insider told me "Nope. Hasn't shipped. Can't even blame chogm or qantas. Just either hasn't been made or hasn't arrived in Australia.".
 :-[  :-[  :-[

The JB store he works for is only getting two box sets in... and he is holding them both.... one for him and one for me.

I rang 78 Records in Perth on Thursday and the guy told me the record company had told him (after much badgering on his part) that the box sets had *finally* arrived in Australia that day, and were being sent out forthwith. Mine will apparently be in store on Monday or Tuesday.

100 copies for the entire country? Jesus.

Went to Greville Records today at 10 am to pick up my boxset and 2 CD set.  Had a good old natter with Warwick, who's a fan himself, and said that he'd be getting more box sets next week as he only had limited stock and those were mostly spoken for. Can't beat that old-fashioned service of a bricks and mortar independent record store  :)

Totally right. That's the way I got mine. Perfect condition, neatly sealed, and on the day they promised it it arrived. That I got a bit later was due to being unwell on my part. But the prospect of such a treat rapidly improves one's illness.

G'day and welcome!

Yeah, I've really enjoyed my Saturday so far!  :woot

I've been visiting Warwick at Greville for over 20 years. Besides having a great range of music, he's just a great guy to talk to and knows his stuff, a rarity in these days of JB, Sanity and the like (who also serve a purpose, albeit a less personal one.)
