Title: Longer version of Brian Interview in Record Collector News Post by: onkster on October 23, 2011, 01:52:48 PM Just picked this up today for free at FreakBeat in Sherman Oaks--expecting little. But wow: this is a lengthy and excellent interview. Apparently, a shorter version appeared in MOJO for the 60s issue, but this one is very intelligent and goes into a lot of detail about the recording of Smile. Brian sounds very alert here--perhaps at his best--and seems to remember a lot more here than he does on some of his bad days. I really enjoyed this.

This guy needs to write an essay about how to get Brian Wilson to give real responses, haha. I particularly enjoyed his in depth (as far as Brian is concerned) consideration of '60s studio technology and his use of it -- and was surprised at how well he remembers such details (even including session players and events, etc.) when he does care! I wonder how long it took the interviewer to get this done~

Agreed. For me, the most important questions were centred around the production process of his recordings, especially the bass, reverb and echo sounds. Too many stock-standard questions have been thrown at Brian during this era which fail to emphasis the main point which is - just how did you manage to create such great production numbers?
