Title: Mojo - five stars and a short BW interview… Post by: The Shift on October 21, 2011, 05:41:52 AM Just landed on the door mat.
Gets a cover mention but it's just an extended review. Have scan-read it and reviewer Jon Savage is full of praise; ne'er a bad word. Effectively states that the BBs ruled the roost at that time, and that SMiLE would have been even more of a cultural landmark than Pepper. Heaps praise on ML, AB, BW & Co for the stunning work done, and states that this is a very important release. Dom & Peter R. get a mention too. There';s more, of course. Free CD is a Who tribute though. I guess Mojo's editor takes some persuading… Add: Also an interview with Glen Campbell which touches on his time with the BBs. Groovy that they list worms as one of the standouts alng with good vibrations, heroes and surf's up!
Title: Re: Mojo - five stars and a short BW interview… Post by: The Heartical Don on October 21, 2011, 06:28:26 AM I find the fact that Jon Savage wrote it very nice. Sort of proof that punk- and new wave-loving folks are BBs nutters too... as if we didn't already know. Good call mr John Manning Sir.

Excellent review all round - gets it spot on IMHO Title: Re: Mojo - five stars and a short BW interview… Post by: chris.metcalfe on October 21, 2011, 09:50:48 AM I think Jon Savage was writing for the NME in Spring 1977 when they published a rave review of 'Love You' which they said Warners had initially rejected ('Warner Bros are the idiots if you ask me' or somesuch). It did after all consist of latter-day 3-minute pop songs of the type coming back into fashion then. After this the BB had some kind of post-modern street-cred in the punk-oriented NME and related journals.

Sounds, and it was Giovanni Dadomo. :) Title: Re: Mojo - five stars and a short BW interview… Post by: shelter on October 21, 2011, 02:47:28 PM Cool! But then again, after that Mojo 60s issue with a Smile cover story and preview 7", it would have been a bit odd if they wouldn't have given it a positive review.
Title: Re: Mojo - five stars and a short BW interview… Post by: mammy blue on October 21, 2011, 03:20:06 PM Too bad the US fans won't read this review until we've had the box a couple weeks. Anybody wanna throw a Yankee a bone here and share a transcript of it? It was an American Gothic Trip, after all, even though only the British press seem to give a damn about it at the moment...
