Title: BB Vinyl Record Question
Post by: Shane on October 11, 2011, 10:49:06 PM
Today, I wandered into a local thrift shop, and was completely shocked to find a Capitol Record Club issue of the Sunflower LP in the dollar LP bin.  In doing some research, this led me to an interesting thread on this board from a few years back, concerning different label variations of these Capitol Record Club LPs.  That thread can be found here: http://smileysmile.net/board/index.php?topic=8012.0

This then leads me to my actual question.  Regarding NON-record club LPs from 1962-1967... did these LPs ever remain in print long enough to be reissued on late-1970s and early 1970s Capitol labels, such as the "Subsidiary print" label, the lime green label, or the red label?  I've never seen any copies of those before.

I bought a bunch of early BB LPs on Capitol in about 1978/79 (in the UK - imports) with what I would call a yellow label. Sounded superb (still do).
I have Surfin USA, Surfer Girl, Deuce Coupe on yellow; Xmas LP and Summer Days were reissued in 1978 in the UK on a purple label.
Don't know if that helps.

I asked a friend who is much more knowledgeable than I, on this question, and these are the ones he was aware of:

Little Deuce Coupe ST 1998
Black (1963), Black (with Subsidiary) (1968/69), Lime Green (1969/71, Red (same label design as Lime Green) (1971), Orange (with gold Capitol at bottom) (1972)

The Beach Boy's Christmas Album ST 2164
Black (1964), Black (with Subsidiary) (1968/69)

Beach Boys' Concert STAO 2198
Black (1964), Black (with Subsidiary) (1968/69)

Thanks for the info.  It makes sense the Christmas album would stay in print through label changes, as it has a bit of resurgence of popularity every December.
