Title: Donald Fagenīs new album "Morph The Cat"
Post by: Mithras on March 12, 2006, 06:36:40 AM
As anyone of you listened to his newest effort "Morph The Cat" yet?

I think itīs one of the best he has ever done, alone or with Steely Dan. The sound is pretty similar to Steely Danīs organic, bluesy "Everything Must Go" from 2003, but much more deeper, especially the rhythm section is fantastic, Freddie Washington is a great bass player and Keith Carlock is the tightest drummer around.

And the songs are superior to "Everything Must Go". I mean, "EMG" is a great album but i like the fact that Fagenīs solo efforts follow a concept, whereas Steely Danīs albums (one of my favourite bands) always remind me of collections of "short story" songs kept together by production style, over-the-top musicial excellence and "similar mood". There are more rememberable hooks than ever and if the world was a better place, the first single release "H Gang" should be a massive hit.

Your opinions?

Hey, it's a pretty good album, but not as good as Everything Must Go. Pixeleen, Lunch With Gina, and Last Mall beat anything on Morph. It is pretty good, though I cant stand Brite Nitegown. Some of the Morph songs run a bit too long with the extended outros, other than that, if it was more concise, I think it would be better. Top playing and production though, everytime I hear that phased Rhodes piano, I'm satisfyed.

Anyone care to pm me with a link so I can download a FREE copy of Chimes?  I resent having to pay out for something only available on itunes after I've shelled out for the CD... even when it's Donald Fagen!
