I love all of you and have missed thee terribly. I did activate an account at Hoffman's site but never posted. I did read several threads that made me interested.....

The whole Leila thing is "smoke and mirrors" if you know what I mean. Her friends were "B&S"? Please!!!

The last few days have indeed been rough - the thought of November 1st coming with us all scattered was too terrifying to entertain.  Thanks to everyone who worked to get us back up so quickly!  

I haven't kept up with the adventures on the Bloo (content aside, how anyone can actually stand that board format for more than 30 seconds is beyond me), but the Hoffman board has been a good source of my daily Smile fix, so I'm thankful to them over there too for being (mostly) receptive to our temporary refuge situation.

Same here, the hoffman is a good source for SMiLE infomation and discussion.

lets face it, we never would have lasted on the hoffman board.

Mr. Hoffman does a great job censoring. Also, does Jon Hunt really think he holds a trademark on the name The Smile Shop?

My first post went along the lines of "Hi"

It was removed.

Then the Hoff himself came on to say that some people had come from "another forum" (presumably with dog's muck on our shoes) and broken the rules and had their posts removed.

My second post said "Hi, I posted yesterday but had my ppost removed, not sure why but here I am, hello"

Hoff hit the roof and said I had come on again and ruined his forum, and I should "read the rulz"

Then I was locked out

Still unsure what I did, but I gather it's a no no to question why a post was removed. Not that I did, only rhetorically

It was slow.  I had posts lingering for approval for days.

The whole Leila thing was pretty interesting, but mostly for people's crazy reactions.  I don't get the fly-in vocal controversy: they're not replacing the "proper" versions.  Smile tends to bring out the worst in people, though, so I'd rather anticipate the set than argue over stuff I haven't heard.  I'm excited regardless of what she posted.

I think it's just a desire for respect, not an attempt to take credit for the name.  I think part of the issue is that this site has writing from the Smile Shop posted on it without permission.  He just doesn't want people doing things that he thinks will be attributed to him.  The Smile Shop was a great site and should be remembered as such, especially because you can barely talk about Smile on what's left of it.

Really ?  That's bizarre - mine just went straight on.

Somebody claimed to have heard stuff from the box, the first disc anyway. It seemed pretty plausible to me and it seemed everyone confirmed what she said.

Look has vocals, but only a line or two of "child child"s lifted from somewhere else.
The sessions portions includes the Do You Like Worms verse vocals from BWPS. It sounds like we didn't get a clear take of them, but apparently Brian sings some of it, and get this, it's not to the melody we all know and love.
Barnyard and I'm In Great Shape have vocals flown in from the demo.
Barnshine is at the end of OMP.

I have been clicking the forum's link this past week to no avail: Just before heading out today, I clicked...and the board was back!

Congrats and cheers to everyone involved. Glad to see this is back and everything survived. Damn shame what happened, just a pathetic turn of events all around. Hope the lessons will be remembered...

The Leila thing all sounds plausible and i wouldn't be surprised if everything that was written ends up being true, but the posts themselves have to be a put-on. It was like a caricature.

Where's your review, that I want to read

That's what I thought too, especially her quips about her Smile-obsessed friend. That line about complaining so much about something he loves seemed like a deliberate (and somewhat accurate) dig at your average Smile fan. Still though, like we've said, everything her friend wrote seems plausible and has been confirmed elsewhere in many cases.

Either way, thankfully it won't be long before we can hear for ourselves!

Frankly, it was a nice thing to have the board taken away from me for a week or so. Cleanses the palette and freshens the mind.

But it's wonderful to have it back. I missed ya'll terribly.

Indeed, it is wonderful to have SS back up and running. So, a big thank you to Chuck and whoever else was involved in bringing the board back to life.

It feels so good to have this board back, the last few days have been pretty grim, let us never speak of them again.

Where is this Leila thing of which you speak?

On the Hoffman board, in the tenth incarnation of their Smile discussion thread - page 10 or 11 I want to say.

I almost went crazy without this board, it doesn't help i'm at the peak of my Beach Boys/Smile fascination.  ;D I felt lost looking at all the other Beach Boys message Boards, nothing else comes close to here!  ;D

I mainly lurk here, but I'm really glad the board's back. It's taking the sting out of my scratched-up Pink Floyd Immersion discs.  :-[

It would have been a real shame to have the board down on November 1st after you folks have waited all these years.  :(  I doubt that this release would even be happening if not for many of you.

Because in the threads people are constantly reminded that they can talk about other music.

That and it's annoying how the Smile discussion is limited to just one thread - makes it difficult to keep up with the discussion sometimes.

Well that was a rough week.

About "Leila" - like someone else posted, I too feel that what was written about the music is probably all true. But "Leila" obviously is not so unknowing about 1966/67 SMiLE as "she" pretends to be. The tongue-in-cheekish stabs at people who don't like "flown in" vocals that much is obviously info that "she" knows is interesting for us. If she really only knew BWPS, those parts wouldn't be as detailed. Whoever "Leila" is, she must have a good reason to cloud her real identity. 8) Great that "she" posted all that! :)

A rough week of confused staring onto the screen, thinking "but what to do now?". Suddenly my daily Internet use dropped with an hour or so. I went outside instead. That was nice, but did I learn anything BB/BW-ish out in the sun? No.

FYI, I talked to someone yesterday who said the message board he maintains was hit by a similar hack last weekend. Didn't someone say it was the whole server that went down?

Spent a few days on the Shut Down board...some nice people there...even a few familiar faces (er...usernames)...but nothing beats this board.

Given the reaction (myself included) to the board's temporary loss, there might be the possibility of a government grant to keep this place going, as a kind of "care in the on-line community" facility.

Hooray! I am so glad this board is back! I was getting bored of looking at news sites and social media sites! Now I can read interesting facts and heated conversations! Yippee! Great to see it back online!
