Thought so. But it will leak at some point, and I don't think I'll be able to stop myself. Obviously I'll buy the box as well!

I wonder if anyone sends out promo discs these days, or do they do it via secure websites ?  I'd imagine both would be copy-protected, mind.

I don't realistically see a leak happening. Capitol have done a fine job of managing the gameplan thus far (despite what someone may care to think), and I'm guessing any leak would be shortly followed by the leaker checking the job vacancies.

It's a mixture of both, I think - when I did a bit of work at a music site, they were fairly liberal with cd promos considering we were operating at a fairly low level. We also got some downloads, but for the most part, CDs. I don't doubt some of the major ones were watermarked. I also imagine the few download promos I got were traceable as well, not that I ever shared anything.

I know Pitchfork, the most popular 'alternative' music site, also keeps their promos on a FTP server which its journalists can access and download review copies. Which works until someone fucks up, like they did in 2006 and someone 'stole' Ys by Joanna Newsom off it.

Sometimes they don't even send out promo discs. One method I've heard of is that they'll send out iPods that are rigged so that all you can do is listen to stuff through a speaker. I think for George Harrison's Brainwashed instead of promo discs, they actually sent out representatives with portable CD players or something and allowed people one listen inside a room, and then said reps would leave with the CD and CD player.

I don't think something of this magnitude would be easily leaked.  A standard album sure but a archival release like this in my opinion would be pretty unlikely.  I mean as I remember The Beatles had "Anthology" delivered by some sort of special courier to prevent it from leaking back in 1995 because everyone was trying to get their hands on it before the release date.  I'm not sure if the same security measures would be taken here but I personally don't see a leak happening.

fake "leaks" are often posted months in advance as a measure to prevent piracy or legit early leaks. record companies have gotten damn good with leak prevention, i don't see this one making it out, at the most, two weeks before its released.

Haha, if I didn't live in Philadelphia I would have been there immediately. I do plan to take Mr. Boyd up on his generous offer, but by then the box will be released. (Hopefully.)

How did the TLOS sessions leak?

They were demos, and allegedly from someone "close".

Despite my eagerness to hear more TSS tracks already, I hope Mr Reum is right. It'll be fantastic if we're all forced to hear this release almost simultaneously around the 1st November. Imagine the discussion!!

Does this mean there won't be preview tracks on amazon and that type of thing? Really hoping not.

I'd imagine they'll do a pre-order on itunes but block the tracks from being heard until the first....they've done this before.

Good thing they did, as it proves that many of Brian's leads were, in fact, flown in from said demos. "Midnight", for one.

I hope not as well - I might have to take the day off just to hang out on here!  It'll easily rival 2/20/04, if not surpass it, in terms of frenzied board activity.

What Peter meant was that the album is being streamed from a secure site for purposes of review only. Not for Joe Q. Public.

These streams have been recorded/leaked before. Granted they're watermarked and the person who recorded them shouldn't be stupid enough to trust anyone with their job/well-being by sending tracks, but it happens.

Has anybody actually tried to download one of those links? I was temped to, but I really don't want a virus.  ;D

I didn't look, but generally there's an "instructions to listen" text file or something with it if it's fake. Just a heads up, I s'pose.

It hasn't leaked yet.  When it does it will be listed on leaksallday.
